I came to the pier to watch the water, not to be attacked by the water! I immediately stood up and started walking away from the pier when I noticed something quite peculiar. On the right side of the pier, the waves were loud, powerful, and even chaotic. On the left side of the pier…there were no waves. The water was quiet and still. I kept looking right to left to make sure my eyes weren’t deceiving me. It was astonishing to see such chaos and calm so close together. In that moment, I started to think about life and how chaos and order are so close togeth- er. Through all the ups and downs we read about in the Bible (creation, the fall, the Exodus, the prophets, the Exile, Jesus Christ, crucifixion, resurrection, the Church), God is there every step of the way. God is actively involved in the story of us, the chil- dren of God. During the storm God can be in the form of a loved one who holds your hand and gives you encouragement. During the quiet, God can be heard the sound of friend laughing or in the whisper of the wind. So as I watched the wild waves on the right side of the pier and the peaceful water on the left, I realized something that has brought me great solace: Whatever side you find your life on, God is on that side with you. FROM BILL REMELE

September is always a happy time in the Music Department, as our choirs and ensembles resume regular re-hearsals. We have new music to learn, old favorites to polish, church events in which to participate, and plenty of room for new members. Here are the details: Our Church Choir, which sings for 11:00 a.m. Sunday services, will meet weekly on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. beginning September 11. Our Praise Team, which leads worship at our 9:00 a.m. Sunday services, will meet monthly Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m. beginning September 14. Our Handbell Choir, which rings for special occasions at both Sunday ser-vices, will meet seasonally Wednesday afternoons at 5:00 p.m. beginning September 11. SPIRIT, our intergenerational instru-mental ensemble, plays occasionally at both services and for special events. Members rehearse Sunday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. and at vari-ous other convenient times. Dust off your instruments and watch the bulle-tin for the next practice time! There are plenty of opportunities for both vocal and instrumental solos, duets, and other small groups in our rich worship life. YES, there is room for YOU! Speak to me, Connie, or Robby for more information. No audi-tions are required for any of our groups! Give us a try! We do not re-quire a lifetime commitment, but such would surely be welcomed! I hope to see some new faces this fall in our music department! Blessings! Bill Remele Organist and Director of Music

“All Things New” by Kelly Minter Explore the second letter to the Corin-t h i a n s w i t h its anchoring truths of bearing treas-ures in jars of clay, meeting Christ through a pressing thorn, opening wide your heart in

the midst of hurtful relationships, and what it means to embrace the lost and lonely as ministers of the new covenant. Each of us has a message to proclaim and live by: Because of Jesus the old has gone, the new has come. This eight session study meets in the Annex beginning Thursday, Septem-ber 12, at 6:30 pm. Workbooks are available online. Please contact Tam-mi Gates at 910-200-4415 for more details or to sign up.
