Goals for tonight!Parents meet a new friend.Get your child’s homework kit prepared and
ready to go.Learn new ways to help your child with
homework.

Kindergarten HomeworkShould be 15-20 minutes FOUR nights a week!Kindergarten is a unique age and stage. Parents need
to be involved with the homework! Homework needs to be differentiated according to
child’s needs.Please be sure to be attentive and make homework
time interruption free.
Daily HomeworkDaily Dozen: Flashcard/Game Practice/Math ExpressionsReading DailyVideo LessonsLetter of the Week Printing/P.E. Sheet
PhilosophyGame play creates an optimal state for
learning. Children are relaxed and receptive and yet exhibit intense concentration. When leading a game you’re likely to find that your child becomes completely absorbed.
Game play helps social skills.Increases critical thinking skills.Increases cooperative learning skills.Game play should be at your child’s level or
slightly above.
Homework Kit IncludesNumber Flashcards to 32 Uppercase/lowercase lettersAlphabet ChartKindergarten sight wordsGeneric game boardZoophonics reference sheetGame InstructionsInstructions for home access to ST Math (Jiji)Please keep kit in a safe place when not in
use.
Reading Log Due every weekParent records stories read on the right side.
Make sure to discuss stories with your child. (Ask them questions to check for understanding)
Left side-usually an activity using one of the stories read that week. Parents can record their child’s ideas
Homework Check Off Sheet Stays in Red Homework FolderParent checks off activities completed each
day. OK to repeat the activities your child likes.Choose activities that are a bit challenging,
but not so difficult that they can’t succeed.Work on the skills your child needs to master
P.E. and Video ClipsAn exercise/printing sheet will go home
weekly to let you know the letter of the week.Video Clips will be viewable on Ms.
Campbell’s classroom website, www.vejarelementary.org
Video Clips focus on how to form the letters correctly.
Parents need to watch their child write to make sure their child is forming the letters correctly.
Daily DozenSet timer for 12 minutes only!Choose one or two flashcard or game
activities to do with your child.When the timer goes off, you are done!Have your child be responsible and put all
the materials away for another day.Have fun with your child……Remember the
most powerful way for young children to learn is through play!
