Back to School, Back to Church, Back to Basics are the words you would have seen if you looked up at our road sign as you approached the church this past Sunday. The funny thing is they describe what happens here at Hillside each fall in children’s ministry.

Using the One Room Sunday School curriculum, Mission Possible will provide a comprehensive overview of the Bible, covering the major stories of the Bible over three years.

WIN A Wii Attend Mission Possible each week and receive a new ballot for the draw. Bring a friend and get an additional ballot. Friends returning will receive ballots too!

If you are reading this thinking we are trying to get kids to come to Sunday school, then you’re right!

Mission Possible is a Sunday school program designed to make learning about God be a fun and exciting adventure that will keep drawing children back again and again.

The draw for the Wii will take place on Sunday December 19, 2010 during our morning service. The real winning takes place in the hearts and minds of the children as God draws them closer to Him as they grow in their faith.

Noreen, Olga, Ian, and Pastor Tim are the Mission Possible teachers with plenty of teen assistants from Hillside Youth!

The Sonshine Park Sunday School 4kids will progress through the first three units of the BOZ curriculum. Children will learn using the following concepts:

1. TEACH ME about God, Jesus and the bible

2. SHOW ME how everyday life + faith = everyday faith

3. GROW ME through prayer, praise and people who care

This year Sonshine Park has an entirely new team of teachers who bring experience and excitement to this wonderful ministry each Sunday morning starting September 12th.

Gail, Ishmael & Tanya, Patricia, and Elanna will be rotating through the class each week and will be supported by a great group of teens from Hillside Youth. This awesome team will be providing the bible lessons, activities, music, snacks, and so much more each Sunday morning at 10:30AM.

BOZ is back!

The World of BOZ BOZ is a DVD series that combines the important elements of faith, family, fun, and education. BOZ helps reinforce the values you are already teaching your child.

Colors and Shapes 1. Growing Colors This lesson will help children learn and appreciate the beautiful colors God created.

2. Shaping Things Up

This lesson will help children learn and appreciate the beautiful shapes God created.

3. Counting on God’s Love This lesson will help children learn how to count some of the many ways that God loves us and how to count the many ways we can show our love to God.

Growing Focus on Family Ministry

1. Multiply the number of days in a year by the number of hours in a day and you get… 365 days x 24 hours = 8, 760 hours per year

2. Considering that the average family attends church 3 out of 4 Sunday’s per month during the year, take 52 weeks and subtract 12 weeks from it. 52 weeks – 12 weeks = 40 weeks

3. Sunday schools don’t usually operate during the summer months, so let’s subtract 8 more Sunday’s from the previous 40. 40 weeks – 8 weeks = 32 weeks

4. Now that we have some data, multiply the number of Sunday’s by an hour each week and you get the number of hours per year that the church gets to provide Christian Education to your children. 32 Sunday’s x 1 hour = 32 hours per year

5. Take 8,760 hours and subtract 10 hours a day for sleep and you end up with a more real number. 8,760 hours – 3,650 hours = 5,110 hours

6. The point here is that the church only has 0.6% of your child’s time for Christian Education. The remaining 5,110 hours or 99.4% of their time is in school or at home with their families.

In order for us to have a positive influence on children, we need to partner together and continue Christian Education at home through the week. This monthly publication is intended for you to have information and tools to assist you at home.

My prayer is that you will find this monthly publication a valuable resource and with our combined efforts, your children will be blessed with a better understanding and a growing relationship with our truly amazing God.
