National Jamboree The historic 100 th Anniversary Jam- boree is now history! Howdy. I’m home from the National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. One word describes the trip best, “great!” It was a great trip, great memories, great friendships, great fellowship, great arena show, great heat and humidity, and a great time. For those who went from Roadrunner Dis- trict, it was a great experience. It was great seeing Michael Ramsey (Jamboree HQ staff), Tony Woot- ten (Eagle participant), Chris Young (Jambo staff), Curtis Mayo (Longhorn Council Troop 1638 Senior Patrol Leader), Colin Ramsey, (Troop 1638 Scout) and me, Ping Mayo, (Boys’ Life Drug Awareness I’m sorry if I missed someone, but there were more than 45,000 people there and about 100,000 attended the closing arena show! I’ll attach some photos for you to enjoy. Longhorn Council sent six troops, each having 40 members. Trip lasted about two weeks, but took months (years) to prepare. It was historical, being the 100 th Anniversa- ry of Scouting in America. Scouts and scouters from all over the world were in attendance. Patch trading was a huge activity and I learned the trade as I went. My most prized patch is from the 1964 Val- ley Forge Jamboree, where my husband Keith remembers visit- ing as a young boy with his grandpa, who was a long-time Scout- master for Troop 3 from Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. More than twentyCubScouts par-ticipatedwith theirfamilieswashingand dryingall sizes ofvehiclesfrom 9AM tonoon. Wewashed sports cars, vans, and pick up trucks. BeingCub Scouts, buckets full

of sudsy sponges andspraying water quicklylent themselves to becomemore of an exercise inplay than a chore to raise
