Grandparents Day Blessing
God our Father, you create all things in this world
as gifts for your created beings. This day is made
holy by the presence of new life, made real by the
love of spouses and their collaboration with you.
On this day bless all grandparents and their
grandchildren. May they both praise you for their
place in the world. We ask this through Christ our
Lord. Amen

PRO LIFE THOUGHT OF THE WEEK The good news is that the tide is turning & many pro-
abortionists are very concerned about numerous trends. Abortion-
ists are retiring, dying & quitting. Young doctors are far less in-
clined to follow their footsteps. Abortion mills are closing &
staffs are quitting. Planned Parenthood is being exposed for its
obsession with money & disregard for women's well-being & is
facing a number of lawsuits that highlight these facts.
The bad news is that many who claim to be Christian have
been silent for the past 44 years. Good intentions are great, but
good intentions do not help the young mother destined for a life
of deep regret & the death of an innocent and voiceless child. The
holocaust must end & we all must play our part.
ADORATION CHAPEL “The Eucharist is the source of the Christian life because whoever
shares in it receives the motivation & strength to live as a true
Christian. Christ’s sacrifice on the cross imparts to the believer
the dynamism of His generous love. The Eucharistic banquet
nourishes the faithful with the Body & Blood of the Divine Lamb
sacrificed for us, & it gives them the strength to follow in His
footsteps.” ~Saint Pope John Paul II, General audience on
the Holy Eucharist in the life of the Church

PASTOR’S COLUMN Playwrights for stage, screen and television can’t create char-
acters for their dramas with saints only. Human beings are sin-
ners, as well as saints, or a mixture of both. The trouble is the
professional theater is a business as well as an art; so when show
business is slow, producers are always tempted to “give the public
what it wants” and glamorize sin. This, of course, is irresponsible.
It is cashing in on the weaknesses of one’s neighbor.
Some theatrical people go along with such trends, but the
really great actors and actresses will usually refuse. They have too
much respect for their art to allow it to become an agent of human
corruption. Take, for instance, one of America’s theatrical
“greats,” the original “Peter Pan” – Maude Adams (1872-1953).
Here is what she said: “If a play and the acting call out unhealthy
emotions and lead us to believe they are normal or customary, the
theater serves no good purpose.”
Aristotle, the famous philosopher of ancient Greece, who
wrote a whole book on the aims of drama, would have agreed. So
does today’s second reading: “…Love does no evil to the
neighbor”. (Romans, 13:10)

DEAR FR. SMITH & ST. ANTHONY PARISHIONERS, This comes to congratulate you & the parishioners of St.
Anthony of Padua Parish, Lorain for reaching your 2017 Catholic
Charities Annual Appeal goal. From Matthew's Gospel message,
we know that “whatever you did for the least among us, you did for
me” (Mt 25). The very presence of Jesus in the most vulnerable &
marginalized of society can assure us that, through Catholic
Charities, we continue to minister to Jesus himself.
God reaches out to each of us to be good stewards of his mercy
& to be witnesses to each person that walks through our door. You
have my deep gratitude for assisting the Catholic Diocese of
Cleveland to make a difference in Northeast Ohio.
May the Lord reward you for your leadership & generosity.
Fraternally yours in Christ Jesus,
Most Reverend Daniel E. Thomas
