To produce a safe environment in which students are inspired to achieve success through an individu-alized plan that leads to graduation. Our goal is to develop productive citizens and celebrate their success.
The Academy provides an op-portunity for students who want to pursue a high school diploma in a non-traditional setting.
We have flexible scheduling, non-traditional curricula, a diverse stu-dent body, and an open campus, far removed from the traditional high school experience.
After an application process you may be selected for an interview.
We are a school of choice, meaning that you choose to be here and you choose to work hard. Oth-erwise, we have the choice of not letting you attend.
Students are treated like adults, and we expect adult behavior from every student.
Administration: Bill Warren, Principal Carl Carter, Assistant Principal Tammy Nash, School Counselor

Tadarius Turner graduated this past summer and is cur-
rently working at Cracker Barrel with plans to enroll in college to study engineering.
“I feel like the academy is a wonderful place to go if you are a little behind in school. They actually help you and work with you until you graduate and they never give up on you, even if you give up on yourself.”
Baylor Masincupp graduated in May, 2014. He is currently
working in retail and will be opening a new location in Green Hills as an assistant manager. He is also enrolled at Nashville State and plans to transfer to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in two years.
“Work hard and do your best. Once you’re done, it’s like a huge weight off your shoulders.”
The Mission of The Academy at Old Cockrill The Academy at Old Cockrill
is proud to welcome its new math
teacher, Scott Duffy.
He was raised in rural Wisconsin and traveled to Southern California where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music from Pomona College. After col-lege, he traveled to London to study acting then moved back to Los Angeles to work as an audio engineer. Eventually, he decided to move back to Wisconsin where he started teaching and realized his passion for helping young people. He believes there is a way to make mathematics useful and interesting to everyone and is excited to
teach students of The Academy at Old Cockrill. In his spare time, Scott enjoys exploring the natural wonders of Tennes-see, playing basketball and tennis, and experimenting with making music.
