possible, and we will do our
very best to accommodate.

Thank you!
Hello Friends of SCR:
We are half way through winter and will be celebrating that in February! Many
fun activities are planned here at SCR and we would love you to come by and
partake in the offerings.
If you made a resolution to get healthier, or become more involved in a
worthwhile organization, please consider being a part of SCR or becoming more
involved with SCR in 2017.
SCR has included its calendar in the newsletter…take a look at all the
exercise classes! Try one, you will enjoy the music, the quality instructors and
the good company. Get ready for the May Senior Olympics by getting involved
in an exercise class. Fun and easy. A sure way to stick with your resolution to
get healthier this year.
Want to be more involved in a worthwhile organization? It is easy, please
consider volunteering with our meals on wheels program. 104 meals are
delivered Monday-Friday by volunteers willing to give an hour of their time. Our
clientele let us know how valuable this service is. It is only possible with the
help of volunteers. One day a week, or one day a month, drivers and runners are
needed to supplement our core of dedicated folks.
Another way to volunteer with purpose would be to assist us with the
homeless mat project. We are making great progress on using plastic shopping
bags to create handmade plastic mats that will be distributed through a local
church or agency serving the homeless. If you have time to come in or want to
try it on your own at home, please come in or contact us at SCR.
And of course, another way to be involved is to consider a monetary
donation. Funding continues to go down slightly from both the County and our
main funder, Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging. Your contribution, large
or small, helps us to maintain our services. SCR runs 4 vans which transport
seniors to trips, shopping, medical appointments, to the Center, etc. It is a costly
operation with the cost of gas, insurance, maintenance on the vans always on the
rise. Donations support all of what we do here at SCR. All donations are tax
deductible.
All the best,
Liz

February 9 @ 11:00 a.m.– As part of the “Community Legal Education Workshops for Seniors,” attorney Sheila Fell will educate us on the im-
portance of and process of a will. Sheila is a lawyer at the Scranton Road Legal Clinic.
February 17 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.– LeAnne Christner of Mobile

to schedule an appointment. 216-749-5367
February 3,10,17 and 24, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.– The Cleveland Sight Center will continue their training for seniors who are visually impaired.
This includes training in low vision/vision rehabilitation aids, mobility and activities of daily living.
Interested in helping those in need? Join SCR participants to make
sleeping mats for the homeless out of plastic grocery bags. We will meet
at SCR from 9:30-11:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Our goal is to
make 6 mats throughout the next four months. We need your help! You
do not need to know how to crochet to participate in this project. In
order for the bags to be crocheted into a mat, we must fold, cut and loop
the bags first. The prep work is very important...Many hands make light
work! Please see Bethany, Liz or Kim for more info.
In Case of Inclement Weather...
In the event of dangerous driving
conditions due to snow and/or icy
conditions, or extreme temperatures
which could cause hardship, SCR
may close for the day. Stay tuned to
Channel 3 or 5 for weather
related closing information. We will
exercise good judgment with the
safety of the seniors, our volunteers
and staff in mind. In case of closing,
no meals will be served or delivered.
Thank you for your
understanding.

During the winter months, it is
understandably difficult to keep

Transportation is available to any resident of Old Brooklyn or bordering areas if you are 60 years of age and
ambulatory. Our vans are wheelchair accessible, but we do not provide escort service. We provide
transportation for congregate meals, shopping, medical and hair appointments. We ask that you schedule
appointments ONE week in advance. Freewill donations are accepted, but obligatory. Please call 216-749-
5367 for your transportation needs. Scheduling is done through the FRONT DESK ONLY, not through SCR
drivers. Thank you for your cooperation as we change our policies.
