The Missouri Medicare Patrol would like to review what some call the four R’s of Medicare. Keeping these tips in mind could help you protect yourself against Medicare fraud and abuse. A New Addition to Our

Program Mix We have created a new activi-ty group featuring music, memories and nostalgia. Each week we share our memories and experiences from the past. Each class will have a theme and multisensory objects. We also sing along to songs from the good old days. Participants are encouraged to bring items and share the memories they bring back. Some of the topics include: “Remember the Dec-ades,” “Home Front,” “Farm Life” and “School Days.” We meet every Monday at 12:15.

Missouri No Call

A Message from Attorney General Chis Koster

Often times, automated recordings have messages like “Press 1 for more information, or press 2 to be removed from our list”. The Attorney General recommends you not push any number; all this does is confirm to telemarketers that your line is a working number, and will only increase the number of annoying calls you receive. Instead, hang up the phone, write down the caller’s name and phone number that shows on caller ID, and report the violation to the Missouri Attorney General’s Office at 866-BUZZ-OFF. You can help this fight by making sure your phone number and email address are up-to-date on the Do-Not-Call list by calling 1-866-662-2551 or emailing [email protected]

How Exercise Keeps Your DNA Young By Alice Park

A new study reveals exercise may be another way to combat aging. To stay young, you have to keep your cells young, and what dictates a cell’s age is its DNA. Too many cycles of dividing can trigger the aging process, until eventually the cell peters out and stops dividing altogether. But now researchers have found that exercise can help keep DNA healthy and young. Moderate-intensity physical activity helps hold back cell aging. Start combatting age by joining our “Moving with Mandy” classes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Advanced class begins at 9 a.m. Intermediate classes begin at 9:45 a.m.

Slice of Life Celebration

Getting to know Odessa S.

Just when you thought you knew what we were doing, we go and change things up a bit but it’s all in good fun. Our Slice of Life celebrations are taking a new twist on LIFE as we begin to learn about lives of those with us today. Each month we will celebrate the life of one of our fabulous friends and participants. We will start this month off with celebrating our Site Council President, Odessa.

We will still exercise in the morning followed by a morning game of Bunco before we eat lunch. We invite everyone to stick around after to join us in celebrating life with fun and festivities. Come to the Center on Wednesday, September 28th for a slice or two of pizza provided by Benton House of Tiffany Springs and enjoy our Slice of Life Celebration. We will be ordering pizza for lunch and play our Bingo games after we eat. The cost for the days festivities is $5.00. Please register no later than Friday, September 23rd for this day of celebration by calling us at 816-270-4100. September is Healthy

Aging Month

Think it’s too late to “re-invent” yourself? Think again. According to Carolyn Wothington, of Healthy Aging Magazine, it’s never too late to find a new career, a new sport, passion or hobby. And, now is the time to travel more than ever. Worthington is the creator of September is Healthy Aging Month, an annual health observance designed to focus national attention on the positive aspects of growing older. “Use September as the motiva-tion to take stock of where you’ve been, what you really would like to do if money was no object,” says Worthington. “And try it! Who says you have to do something re-lated to what you studied in school? Who says, you can’t start your own home business later in life, test your physical prowess, or do something wildly different from anything you’ve done before? Only that person you see in the mirror!”
