Active Leak Control

Sustainable reduction of water

losses by permanent monitoring

and detection of new and existing

leakages

Priority on reduction of leaking

period

Water loss volume = Leakage rate

(in m3/d or l/h) x duration (in d or h)

per leakage (DVGW W392)

About 90% of water loss caused

by small leakages

SIWA LEAK: Leak Detection and Leak Location in Pipelines

The flow rates up and downstream of the

leak are compared and the difference is

measured

The flow rates measured at at least two points

are evaluated

Homogeneous, adjustable sensitivity throughout

the entire pipeline

The imprecision of any single mass balance has

to be reduced by setting a time over which a

mean value is calculated

Response time is a function of the selected

sensitivity

Temperature-dependent effects can be taken

into account separately

SIWA LeakControl

Central Unit

The central unit module provides actively

and continuously ongoing statistical

analysis.

It is a technical interpretation of weighted

sums from the flow measurements, using

the method of time series analysis and

sequential probability ratio testing.

For leak detection, a lead time of about

1-2 weeks in order to collect relevant

data for comparison is required

Flow velocity and flow direction of the water can

be shown online on the HMI

Network-wide mass balancing

The „network-wide mass balance” module is

used to implement zone balancing over the

whole network so that mass balancing for

the entire network becomes possible.
