SEMESTER 2 REFLECTION PACK
This pack is designed to help you as one of our Student Leaders
that is making change across the University to consciously reflect
on your leadership development and the positive impact you are
having on the experience of students through your role and its
activities. By completing and submitting both this pack and the
Semester 1 pack (in addition to any required training and minimum
activities specified by your role*) by the required deadlines, you are
able to gain accreditation and recognition for your work through our
brand new Student Leader Awards.
Whether you’re a Course Rep, a member of a campaigning group, a
Part-Time Officer, scrutineer, or one of the many other Student
Leaders involved in SU activities, the work that you are doing to
make change is integral to the core activity of the Students’ Union
and, collectively, the accomplishments of the organisation
The idea behind this accreditation scheme is
to ensure that not only do your peers benefit from your work but
that you get the most personal development out of your role as
possible too.
*If you’re not sure what the minimum activities for your role are, please speak to your main
member of SU support staff or email [email protected]
Award Semester 2
The Student Leader Awards are brand new for the 2015-16 academic year and have been designed based on student feedback to recognise the diverse range of Students’ Union Student Leaders working to create positive change through various representative, democratic, and campaigning mechanisms across the Students’ Union and University. If you’re not sure whether your role is eligible to participate, please get in touch through [email protected]. uk.
To be considered for an award, you need to have completed and submitted both the Semester 1 and Semester 2 reflective packs by the required deadlines as well as having attended any required training and having completed any minimum activities specific to your role. Based on the activities outlined and learning/development evidenced in your reflections on those activities within your packs, you will then be awarded either a Bronze or Silver Student Leader Award at the end of the academic year.
Your reflective packs will be assessed against the criteria outlined
below by a panel of relevant Students’ Union Officers and support
staff.
Although there is no specific list of required activities for each level,
the following criteria can be used as a guide to the expectations for
Bronze and Silver.
Complete minimum activities specific to your role.
Show evidence including specific examples of how those activities and
your role more generally have helped you to develop your leadership
and other associated transferable skills in your reflection packs.
Complete minimum and extra activities related to your role – examples
of extra activities include (but aren’t limited to!) participating in the
Students’ Union’s Student Leader Development Programme, MAKE
CHANGE, attending a conference relating to your role and/or creating
change, helping with a Students’ Union campaign, or attending
additional development training.
Provide full reflection with specific examples and evidence on how
those activities and your role more generally have helped you to
develop your leadership and other transferable skills and the direct
impact that your activities have had on the student experience at the
University of Nottingham. Demonstrate awareness and comprehension
of how your specific role fits in and contributes to the wider impact of
the Students’ Union as a whole.
There is also an opportunity for you to win a Gold Student Leader
Award! Any Student Leader that has gone above and beyond to make
positive change to the student experience at Nottingham can be
nominated for an award and then winners will be selected by a panel of
judges. More details will be sent out to relevant students during

Semester 2
Look at the table above and compare it to your table from your Semester 1 pack - which skills have you grown the most confidence in? List them below and describe any examples of how you have actively developed your confidence in each skill since semester 1? How has your development in these skills affected your success as a Student Leader and helped you to positively impact other students?
Look at the table above and compare it to your table from your Semester 1 pack - have you decreased in confidence in any skills? If not, are their any skills in which your confidence has stayed the same? List them below and describe why you think this happened as well as how this has impacted you in your role. Looking forward, describe what steps you will take to restore/increase your confidence in these leadership skills.
What have you done in your role during semester 2 that has had a positive impact on other students? How did you achieve this impact?
What motivated you to become a Student Leader? How do you think this influenced the way in which you carried out your role? What skills were you hoping to develop? Did you? Why (not)?
How has your experience as a Student Leader impacted your own personal development? How can you use the skills and knowledge that you have developed in other contexts in the future? How has being a Student Leader increased your employability and/or impacted your plans for the future?
How have your actions as a Students' Union Student Leader and the impact of those actions contributed to any of the wider Students' Union goals to: 1. create a great academic experience; 2. enhance the career prospects of all students; 3. support student wellbeing; 4. empower students to have an incredible time at University; and 5. put students at the heart?
