Smoke Detectors

Testing of smoke alarms is not part of the Washington State Home inspection. Recommendtesting regularly according to manufacturer's instructions. Consult your local fire departmentregarding any questions on concerns.

Smoke alarms have a limited life span. Alarms that are ten years old or older need to bereplaced because the sensor wears out. (Look for the date stamp on the smoke alarm.) Testsmoke alarms monthly. Vacuum your alarms monthly to remove dust and cobwebs.

We advise installation of smoke detectors on each level of the home and in each bedroom.Batteries should be replaced in existing units.
