Though this only represents a 1% increase from the 2010 results, it unquestionably shows the unwavering commitment by all teachers, parents and students in the past year. Congratulations to all. This year in our efforts to improve on this, we will continue to implement our target setting programme, fostering programme as well as the motivational talk programme such as seminar bijak belajar and seminar skill to score. With the unrelentless efforts shown by all concerned, we hope to achieve better results this year. A conducive learning and teaching environment is one of the prerequisite of academic excellence. To this effort, the school plans to allocate a special space for the students within the school compound. It is hoped that this space will be fully utilized by the students to their advantage. To achieve this target, we plan to embark on a PLANTATON which aims to collect enough funds for this project and at the same time beautify the school. This is also in line with the ‘School In The Garden’ project as envisioned by the MOE. With the beautification of the school premises, we also plan to equip each classroom with modern facilities and technologies. This is aimed at providing students as well as teachers with varieties in their teaching and learning strategies. The rapid development in the global scene has demanded for future human capital to be more adaptable and competitive. Students being the future human capital of the country needed to be equipped with these skills. We at Sayyidina Hasan hope to provide our students with such skills by encouraging them to participate actively in co-curricular activities, community services as well as educational visits while still empha- sizing on their core objective of achieving academic excellence. The pride of being named as one of the eco-schools in Brunei in 2011 will see us putting into practice the 3R in a much greater scale. It is expected that students of Sayyidina Hasan will continue to practice such initiatives well beyond their years in this school. My hope is that Sayyidina Hasan will be a favourable and happy place for everyone. Let us all make this happen by giving our full commitment towards achieving our vision of ‘A Secondary School with Excellent, Active, Balance and Caring Education’. May we all be under the grace of Allah always. As an initiative to all the Cluster 3 secondary schools for supporting the ‘Program Peningkatan Pencapaian Sains + Matematik (PPPS + M)’ or ‘The Enhancing Science and Mathematics Achievement Programme’ organized by the STEP Centre, a ‘Motivational Award for Cluster 3 Combined Science Students’ was held on 21 st November 2011 in Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan’s multipurpose hall. OPENING SPEECH BY OUR PRINCIPAL: CIKGU HAJI METUSIN BIN HAJI JAIS

Assalamualaikum warahmatullah hiwabarakatuh,

This year, we saw 38.65% of our students obtaining 5 credits and above in the 2011 ‘O’ Level Examination. Though this

only represents a 1% increase from the 2010 results, it unquestionably shows the unwavering commitment by all

teachers, parents and students in the past year. Congratulations to all. This year in our efforts to improve on this, we will

continue to implement our target setting programme, fostering programme as well as the motivational talk programme

such as seminar bijak belajar and seminar skill to score. With the unrelentless efforts shown by all concerned, we hope

to achieve better results this year.

A conducive learning and teaching environment is one of the prerequisite of academic excellence. To this effort, the school plans to allocate a

special space for the students within the school compound. It is hoped that this space will be fully utilized by the students to their advantage. To

achieve this target, we plan to embark on a PLANTATON which aims to collect enough funds for this project and at the same time beautify the

school. This is also in line with the ‘School In The Garden’ project as envisioned by the MOE.

With the beautification of the school premises, we also plan to equip each classroom with modern facilities and technologies. This is aimed at

providing students as well as teachers with varieties in their teaching and learning strategies.

The rapid development in the global scene has demanded for future human capital to be more adaptable and competitive. Students being the

future human capital of the country needed to be equipped with these skills. We at Sayyidina Hasan hope to provide our students with such

skills by encouraging them to participate actively in co-curricular activities, community services as well as educational visits while still empha-

sizing on their core objective of achieving academic excellence.

The pride of being named as one of the eco-schools in Brunei in 2011 will see us putting into practice the 3R in a much greater scale. It is

expected that students of Sayyidina Hasan will continue to practice such initiatives well beyond their years in this school.

My hope is that Sayyidina Hasan will be a favourable and happy place for everyone. Let us all make this happen by giving our full commitment

towards achieving our vision of ‘A Secondary School with Excellent, Active, Balance and Caring Education’.

May we all be under the grace of Allah always.

As an initiative to all the Cluster 3 secondary schools for supporting the ‘Program Peningkatan Pencapaian Sains + Matematik (PPPS + M)’ or ‘The Enhancing Science and Mathematics Achievement Programme’ organized by the STEP Centre, a ‘Motivational Award for Cluster 3 Combined Science Students’ was held on 21st November 2011 in Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan’s multipurpose hall. The schools involved were Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan as the coordinator school, Sekolah Menengah Awang Semaun, Sekolah Menengah Masin, Sekolah Menengah Rimba, Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Husain and Sekolah Menengah Umar Al-Khattab. Among the objectives of the award day were to encourage the Combined Science students to do better, to appreciate the effort they have put in order to have so much improvement

and to show other students that improvement is possible, no matter how low their marks were.

Each school selected five students for the ‘Top 5 in Combined Science’ award as well as another five for the ‘Top 5 Most Improved in Combined Science’ award. Each student received a trophy and certificate kindly sponsored by the STEP Centre. The Guest of Honour was Ck Haji Jumaat bin Haji Salleh, Acting Assistant Director of Schools, Ministry of Education who was welcomed by Ck Haji Metusin bin Haji Jais, Principal of Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan. LAUNCHING OF THE SCHOOL’S OUTREACH PROGRAMME AND 3R AWARENESS DAY 28th November 2011

Approximately 250 students from Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan competed in this race during its Health Awareness Day on 22nd November 2011. The theme for this year's Health Awareness Day is “Eat

Smart, Move More”. The race activities were also designed to bring these two into focus.

There were 8 checkpoints in the race – 4 were nutrition activities which included making tuna sandwiches, completing a food pyramid jigsaw puzzle, recognising fruits and vegetables as well as measuring the sugar content in various drinks. The other 4 checkpoints were physical activities: a three-legged race, limbo rock, fitness circuit training and fun with flour and ping-pong ball. In first place was 10BScience1, who took only 30 minutes to finish the race. Winning teams received real fruit, fruit juices and oat crackers as their prizes,

to further emphasise the importance of having healthy eating habits.

“This is the first time the school is bringing the students a message on health through fun activities. It is our hope that through these activities we can promote the awareness that to gain health need not be bor-ing or a burden or a chore, but it can be enjoying and full of fun too,” said the Deputy Principal of Administration, Cikgu Norazizah binti Hj Md Salleh during her speech. In conjunction with the school's Health Awareness Day, there was an aerobic warm-up session, a medical check-up for the teachers (checking the

blood sugar level, BMI, blood pressure and using an age simulator) courtesy of the Health Promotion Committee of the Ministry of Health, and a powerpoint presentation on 'Malnutrition' by Health Promotion students of the school.

In addition, the annual 2-day teachers' fitness test was kicked off in the afternoon.

The school would like to give its appreciation to the sponsors of the Health Promotion Committee, Syarikat Jasra Harrison, who provided iced milo as refreshments and Syarikat Malar Setia for providing everyone with tuna sand-wiches and juice drinks. The school would also like to thank the year 10B Health Promotion students of Sekolah

WORKSHOP ON PREZI AND LEARNING STYLES 8th February 2012

As part of the professional development for teachers, Computer Department had conducted a workshop

entitled “Introduction to Prezi” and “Learning Style” in February which took place at the school Computer

Lab (Ground Floor). This workshop was attended by the school ‘s Principal, Deputy Principal of Academic

and teachers.

For the first part of the workshop, Cikgu Hjh Siti Noor Mazrah bte Awg Hj Suhut presented on the

“Introduction to Prezi”. She had learnt about Prezi during her PGCE program (Diploma in Education) at

UBD and noticed that the potential it has for teaching purpose. Hence, she has decided to share the

knowledge to other teachers. Prezi is a new learning tool which serves a similar function to PowerPoint

but with more interactive, powerful and interesting options. This is really useful for teachers especially in

trying to captivate students’ attention during lesson and for various teaching activities. What more in-

teresting about Prezi is that it is FREE in obtaining its license. All Prezi asks from us is our e-mail ad-

dress and we can register right away.

During the workshop, the participants were taught on how to sign up, create, edit and use the tools

available in Prezi. Once the demonstration had finished, the participants were asked to do an activity

using Prezi which is “Five Countries or Places that have been visited”. During this activity, it was shown

that participants were giving positive response and they learnt fast and well.

As a closure for the workshop, Cg. Leong Yat San conducted “Learning Styles” using Prezi. Learning styles are various approaches or ways of

learning. The Dunn and Dunn Model is a comprehensive model which identifies each student’s strength and preference across the full spectrum

of five categories; Environmental, Emotional, Sociological, Physiological and Psychological.

Environmental refers to sound, light, temperature and design of the room. Under emotional strand are motivation, persistence, responsibility or

conformity and structure. While under sociological strand; study/learn alone, paired with another, study/ learning with a group, colleagues,

authority and varying the way one studies. For Physical group, students tend to be more in their perceptual strengths (auditory, visual, tactile

and kinaesthetic), intake, time of day and mobility. The last strand would be known as Psychological which comprises of these skills; analytical

or global, left brain or right brain and either being reflective or impulsive.

All Year 7 students were involved in this programme which was organised by ‘Bahagian Kaunseling dan

Kerjaya’ (BKK) from the Ministry and the Counseling Department of Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan. It

took place on the 9th February 2012 at the school library which started from 1.30pm till 5pm.

The Sinar ‘A’ programme began with the recital of Al-Fatihah and then followed by a talk given by an officer

from the BKK. Later it was continued with talks given by representatives from the ‘Bahagian Promosi dan

Pendidikan Kesihatan, Kementerian Kesihatan’ and ‘Pusat Dakwah Islamiah, Kementerian Hal-Ehwal

Ugama’ before the function stopped for refreshment break. Representative officers from ‘JAPEM’ and ‘Jabatan Adat Istiadat Negara, Jab-

atan Perdana Menteri’ then delivered their talks. Afterwards there was the presentation of certificates to the representative officers by the
