Then city was taken over by Visigoths who controlled it for 200 years, during which the city fell into a decline.The Moors conquered Segovia in the 8th century and helped revitalize it. In 1079 Catholic King Alfonso VI captured the city. His rule marked a period of weatlh and importance for Segovia that lasted many centuries. The city was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985.
