    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The Source for Educational Empowerment andCommunity Development (SEED) Institute is pleased to announce our FirstAnnual Indigenous Well Being Conference which is slated for April 25-28, 2011 atthe Embassy Suites Hotel and Spa. The conference is based on an indigenouswell-being model that was developed by Dr. Shawn Secatero which incorporatesspiritual, mental, social, and physical well-being factors in a former dissertationstudy on college success factors.

    The inaugural conferenc e theme is P lanting our SEED of Knowledge: Our SacredRoots of Healing and Well Being. The conference will consist of highly respectable

    keynote speakers such as Mona Polacca (13 Indigenous Grandmothers), JamesODea (Social Healing Project), Dr. Sandra Begay-Campbell (Sandia NationalLabs) and, Krishna Madappa (institute of Science, Spirituality & Sustainability).Also, the conference will feature paper presentations, hands-on workshops, atraditional talent night, and a mini-film dialogue. Conference participants willhave the opportunity to work in small family or clan groups to address well-beingpillars. The ultimate goal for participants is tocreate a personal well-beingsymbol that would assist in their overall development which includes identifyingresources, challenges, and plan of action.

    The conference is open to the general public including educators, communitybased workers, spiritual elders, college students, and professionals. The SEEDInstitute is a non-profit 501c3 organization that is dedicated to bridgingindigenous knowledge with scientific ways of thought. The Well Being conferenceis co-sponsored by the Striking Eagle Project which addresses spiritual, mental,social, and physical well being pillars in life. SEED is currently offering specialconference registration rates, lodging, and airline discounts.
