King Starboard® is the world’s first marine grade polymer building material and still the industry standard. Nothing on the water retains its original colour and structural integrity longer. Virtually anything you can build from wood or ordinary plastic can be built better with King Starboard®.

It simply cannot rot, swell, splinter or delaminate and it is virtually maintenance free. King Starboard’s® unique polymer formulas are environmentally stabilised to withstand the harshest marine conditions, delivering a previously unattainable level of resistance to the elements.

Every sheet is a superior homogeneous material manufactured to the industry’s highest standard, using a proprietary process called K-Stran™, the most advanced continuous sheet manufacturing process available for producing extremely flat and long sheets with no grain. Edges finish cleanly and smoothly and it forms easily for smooth curves.

Users appreciate King Starboard’s® low-maintenance finish. Repair and refinishing due to weathering and decay are eliminated and cleaning is easy. Every sheet has a handsome matte finish on both sides to hide scuffs and scratches that would show on glossy textured sheets or acrylics.

In addition, nothing is easier to work with. King Starboard® cuts and machines with standard wood working tools.

Imagine the possibilities . . . here are just a few –

Exterior Deck: Step boxes, berley boards, rod holders, consoles, tray tables, anchor chocks, bow pulpits, decking, fender mounts, deck boxes, antenna holders, storage hatch, step treads (ladders), step boards (gunwales), chairs and upholstery backs, swim platforms.

Interior Decks: Electronics mountings, sofas, sink covers, glassware racks, cabinets, shower grates, bunks, shampoo racks, stairs, hatches, doors, cabin molding, fire extinguisher boxes, upholstery backing.

Engine Room: Grates, hatches, equipment decks, mounting platforms, mounting blocks/surfaces, centre bilge grate, walk on surfaces, signage.

Cleaning and Maintenance

King Starboard® sheets are made to maintain their colour and finish for the lifetime of the boat. Only routine cleaning or pressure washing with common detergents is required.

Nylon scrub pads and brushes should be used with care because excessive force will mark the finish. For resistant stains, apply bleach and allow it to soak in. Use citrus cleaner, alcohol or mineral spirits to remove grease or oil stains. Automotive silicone spray products or household furniture polish can help to hide scratches in the surface. To prevent slipping, do not use these products on walking surfaces.

Finishing

No surface finishing is required – each side has a textured matte finish. Edges may be finished with a router. Sanding may be used but a very fine sandpaper is required to avoid creating small, hard to clean scratches. Because King Starboard® sheet products are designed to resist water and grime, they cannot be painted and the use of adhesives is not advised.

Fabrication

Use standard woodworking tools: table saw, table routers, drills, blades and bits. Carbide router bits with two to four flutes are recommended. With a 12.7mm diameter router bit, feed rates of 3.7-4.9m per minute are normal. Rates must be slower for material that is 12.7mm thick or thicker. Larger bits have a higher top speed and rpm adjustments may be necessary. Cut with a circular saw at 1275rpm using 50-70 tooth carbide blade. Expect a feed rate of 3.7-4.9m per minute. Mild heat applied with a heat gun will help to mould sheets for curved installations. Sharper corners must be notched and then heat-shaped. Hide fasteners with plugs made from King Starboard® using a standard wood-plug cutter. Make the plug slightly larger than the hole for a press fit.

Care and Storage

Store sheets flat on a level surface as the polymer can cold flow. Keep away from teak oil and other products that can stain the finish. Use china markers or water-based markers to draw patterns. Do not use pencil, as it will permanently mark the material. Pen marks can usually be removed with household cleaners.

Original Marine Construction BoardKing Starboard® is the original marine grade polymer and still the industry standard. Environmentally stabilised to withstand the harshest marine conditions, it will not rot, corrode, discolour or delaminate. Finished with a matt surface both sides to hide scuffs and scratches, and make fabrication easier. Using standard woodworking machinery and tools, every conceivable product can be easily manufactured. Suited to hatches, grab rails, handles, steps, dock boxes, rod holders, mug holders, furniture, frames and trims. Sheets are white/white in colour.

Storage lockers are made in minutes to add extra room to confined or unused areas. Sheets are simply cut similar to plywood on standard fine tooth tungsten carbide saws. Universal carbide tipped router bits add the professional touch and smooth edges.

Swim boards or Marlin boards are easily made using King Starboard®. Transom curve contours are replicated from patterns and cut to fit exactly. Water drain slots are simply routed out from template pattern. No further finishing is needed or required.

XL Marine Construction BoardA lighter, more economical board, of cellular construction (up to 33% lighter than original King Starboard®) with excellent surface finish for use where end finish is not paramount in high visibility applications. Finished with a matt surface both sides to hide scuffs and scratches, and making fabrication easier. Worked the same way as standard Starboard®, using workshop woodworking equipment. Suitable for use in the making of hatches, steps, dock boxes, furniture, frames and trims. Sheets are white/white in colour.

Custom craftwork on deck fittings and anchor retrieval systems are quickly constructed, look great and need no finishing to remain well presented for years. Protect expensive deck work and surrounding areas with easy to make, custom deck fittings that will please all skippers and owners.
