World Scholars’ Cup challenge took place at Brookhouse on April 20 and 21st 2017. More than twenty In-
ternational schools participated in this round. The total number of student participants were approximately
200. We prepared for the challenge by researching and polishing our debating skills. The Challenge had
six different areas of testing under a common theme ‘The Unlikely World’
The first day we were tested on debating skills on topics that were very interesting but challenging. We
worked as team to excel. Every team was made up of three students. The debates took place in class-
rooms and they would be rotational. Therefore this allowed us to debate with different schools.
The second day of world Scholars was quite exciting as we had the scholars bowl and the final debate.
The tasks were very demanding as they required quick thinking, listening skills and decision making yet we
were only given 15 seconds to answer each question. The final award ceremony was the most awaited
moment where all the teams received different team and individual awards. Thereafter, we had a final
debate where best selected speakers formed two teams and a judging panel. I was happy to be selected
in the judging panel. The talent show which marked the penultimate stage was very exciting with one of
our own Zoie Ndonye performing a unique dance of hip hop and ballet combined. We look forward to the
next challenge in Cape town, Hanoi and Greece. Stephanie Wainaina

Secondary Bulletin Vol. 1 Term 3, 2017
On Tuesday, 9th May 2017, BTEC students visited Viable Deco. The programme started at the
company’s Main branch at Twinstar Towers where students learnt about the operations at the
marketing department. They progressed to the company’s show room near Libra house where
they were introduced to a range of products offered by Viable Deco. We have managed to
align company visits to the course content being delivered in class. This visit presented an oppor-
tunity for us to develop students’ deeper understanding of a unit titled “Leadership and Team-
work”. They were tasked to form a team and redesign their BTEC class and in turn convert it into
a conference room. This design may be presented to the School Management for implementa-
tion in the near future. We ended our visit with a talk from the CEO Ronald Moturi after visiting the
workshop. He talked about the tenets and qualities of a successful entrepreneur.
“Successful entrepreneurs ought to be honest and hardworking.” Felix Rotich
“It was a pleasure to meet the CEO himself and listen to his
wise advice. He shared his story of how he started his busi-
ness from humble beginnings to running a successful brand
like Viable Deco. The store offers a variety of fashions, from
simple to sophisticated, bright to neutral colours meant for
every person. We were given a grand tour, our task for the
day was to come up
with ideas for a confer-
ence room for our
school, and after the
tour we felt like we could pick everything. Afterwards we
got to meet the CEO Ronald Moturi and he clearly was the
true image of hard work and persistence. He started out as
a salesperson and worked towards his vision of owning his
own store.” Camila Chebet Tarus
I learnt about the importance of every employee in any giv-
en business as well as the process of purchasing products
both by individual customers and corporate customers. We
went to the workshop where the company manufactures
furniture before they are sent to the showroom. It was an ex-
perience that taught me about how products are manufac-
tured.” Ashley Kioko
Viable Deco specialises in making furniture. We went to
two different show rooms at Twinstar Towers and the viable
deco showroom where the company sells ready-made fur-
niture from its workshop. We also got a chance to visit the
workshop where Viable Deco makes their furniture that are
showcased at their showrooms. At the workshop, I was
able to help out in the making of the chairs. This an unfor-
gettable and interesting experience that I really enjoyed
and would be interested in going to the company for work
experience.” Joan Doroba

Brookhouse Choir Festival
On Thursday 11th May 2017, the Year 8 class participated in the annual
Brookhouse Choir Festival. This was a great experience to meet with the
other British curriculum schools in Kenya. We performed a two part choir
piece “Take These Wings by Don Besig” with piano and flute accompani-
ment. We are proud to mention that of all the choirs that were there, the
judges mentioned that Nairobi Academy was the only choir with the most
boys and who also performed extremely well. We would like to thank our
choir trainer Mr. Kamau and our piano accompanist Mr. Edwin for working
with us. Zoie Ndonye
Over the holiday, one of our students, Stanley Ndezwa of Year 10 represented Nairobi in the National
Games that were held on 14th to 15th April 2017 and was a finalist in all his swimming events. We congratu-
late him and urge him on. The Netball team took part in the Under 19 Brookhouse Netball tournament and
emerged 3rd place.
We started the term very well by hosting Aga Khan Academy U15 Team on Tuesday, 9th and won the
game 20-5. On Thursday, 11th the Under 15 Rugby team beat Peponi School 22 -0.The Under 15 team drew
with Aga khan Academy 7-7 and won the game versus Peponi School 7-6 before going down 7-15 to
Braeburn Gitanga Road.
As we start off the Rugby season we urge all the boys to acquire Mouth guards to be used during games
lessons and fixtures when playing Rugby for safety. We take this opportunity to request every parent to
come and support our teams during fixtures.
