A voice cries out:

In the desert prepare the way of the LORD!

Make straight in the wasteland a

highway for our God! Isaiah 40:3

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The words of the Prophet Isaiah are echoed in Mark’s Gospel this weekend. St. John the Baptist role is presented and revealed as the prophetic messenger sent out to prepare God’s people for the Lord. Like St. John the Baptist, we too are called be messengers. Each of us, as missionary disciples, can help prepare the way for others to encounter Christ and embrace his love. Through our actions and words we can be messengers of the Gospel. Often it is through our actions that our hurting brothers and sisters come to know the Lord and find the path that leads to joy and grace. This takes a conscientious intent to bring about God’s kingdom. Daily reflection, scripture reading, and frequent reception of the Sacraments prepare us in this missionary work. Putting aside our needs and conveniences can aid in our services to others. Advent allows us this time to contemplate how can better serve others, even in minute ways. How are we the presence of Christ to others? How do we allow Christ to be born again in the hearts of our brothers and sisters, in the sick and dying, and in the lost and the stranger? Our Blessed Mother is a friend we can follow to become better mes-sengers of the Gospel. She lived a life dedicated to serve the Lord, and continues to point us towards Him. This week we have two op-portunities to honor our Blessed Mother. On Monday, December 7th we will be celebrating the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mass times are as follows:

7:30am Mass 12:00 pm Mass

5:00pm Mass in Spanish 7:00pm Mass

On Friday, December 12th, we will have our parish celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We will have the morning Rosary with Las Mañanitas at 7:30am with the bilingual liturgy at 7:00pm. Father Fran-cisco Gomez will be the main celebrant. There will be a reception to follow in the parish hall. Come honor our Blessed Mother and cele-brate the beauty of culture. We hope many will join us for the amazing Marian feast. In Jesus through Mary,

Adult Scripture Study Introduction to the Bible

Have you ever wondered?

Where the Bible came from? How is the Bible inspired? How is a Catholic Scripture Study different? How does the Church teach us to use and interpret Scripture? Are all Bibles the same?

Newcomers and experienced Scripture students alike will benefit from this study, developing a better understanding of the Bible’s themes and writing styles, and gaining clear insights about Catholic use and inter-pretation of the Bible. The study is 7 sessions.

Class began Oct 8th, Wed. Evenings From 7– 8:30 pm

For location and further information, call Marcy at 989-9256

or Jane at 987-4385. There is a fee of $17 for materials.

SINGERS WANTED! The 9:00 AM choir is

actively seeking new members to join us on a permanent basis.

If you have a desire to serve the Lord, then you are the person for our choir. Our commitment is to minister at the Sunday 9:00 AM Masses, with the exception on the 4th Sunday of each month. We also sing at the 7:00 PM Mass on Christmas Eve, and the Easter Vigil. Please come see us after 9am Mass for more details, or call Audrey Donaldson at the parish office.

John Paul II said this in one of his Addresses regarding womanhood and motherhood: The Spiritual Motherhood Sodality (SMS) educates women regarding the importance of Spiritual Maternity and its connection with the Holy Eucharist and the Priesthood. The Blessed Virgin Mary is esteemed as the ultimate model to help inform women about answering their call to holiness, their dignity and vocation and also, their love for Christ’s Ministerial Priesthood. mothers.” –May 4, 1987

“Catholics Returning Home” Do you know someone who has left the Church? Most of us do not have to look

very far to find non-practicing “Catholics” in our circle of family and friends. Obviously, most of them are searching, but how can we help them find their way home? As baptized practicing Catholics we have a precious gift of faith and love from the Lord that needs to be shared with our non-practicing brothers and sis-ters. First, we need to pray for them. Secondly, we need to extend a personal invitation to them to come home to the Catholic Church. Most non-practicing Catholics are waiting for an invitation to return. Many mistakenly think they are not welcome to return for a variety of reasons. Many non-practicing Catholics carry a tremendous amount of guilt and misinformation about the Church so they are afraid of approaching the Church for fear of being re-jected. You can make a tremendous difference in someone’s life simply by reaching out to them and telling them that we miss them and would like for them to come back home to our Church family. St. Anthony’s Parish in Upland has a special program to help non-practicing Catholics return to the Church called “Catholics Returning Home”. This 6 week series begins Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 7:30 PM in room 9 in their hall. Please pass this article on to anyone who might be interested. For more information about Catholics Returning Home call Bill Thurin at 909-225-4498 or [email protected] .

“Charity in Action”

Dear St. Peter & St. Paul Parish,

Let me express my sincere thanks and appreciation to you and all who made the donation of 273 blankets to Mary’s Mercy Center.

These come at a very appropriate time when the weather is changing and the climate is that of cold weather. It is a very thoughtful and

practical gift. It is and will be appreciated for the future. On behalf of all of us here at Mary’s Mercy Center, I thank all the parishioners of

St. Peter and St. Paul who made this miracle possible.

Sincerely, Father Michael Barry, SS.CC

President and Chairman of the Board

WORLD YOUTH DAY

2016– Krakow, Poland

Our parish has decided to lead a group of young adults and adults to the next

World Youth Day in 2016 in Krakow, Poland.

We are beginning to take interests. It is our hope to take at least 30 and at most 40 pilgrims. We are at 20 so far.

The cost is $4,899 per person. We plan on offering some fun raising opportunities, but the bulk of the trip fee will be on each

pilgrim.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Adapted for Children and Teens

Children (ages 7-12) and Teens (ages 13-17) who are interested in joining the Catholic Church are invited to participate in the RCIA adapted for Children and Teens. The goal is to provide a means of

conversion suited to the student’s age and understanding, and to prepare them for the reception of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirma-tion). Parents and sponsors share a loving journey with the student’s by attending sessions with them and assisting them as they learn about Jesus and the Church, and ensuring that they experience a Catholic environment in the home. To participate more fully in this journey, we encouraged you to attend scheduled retreats, weekly Mass, special celebrations, and the Easter Liturgy. Our sessions begin in September and end in June.

Sessions held every Wed.5:30-7pm. – In the Library Feel free to contact us anytime throughout the year for program information

RCIA

Why does the church use

different colors at mass throughout

the year? The colors are a visual expression of the Church’s Liturgical Year. Since the early Church, it has pro-

vided the faithful with a visual means by which they can identify ordinary times and special occasions. Here are the reasons for the various colors: Green: Used on Sundays and weekdays when no special feasts or seasons are celebrated. It symbolizes Christian hope. Purple: Used during Advent and Lent. It symbolizes penance and personal need for conversion. Red: Used on Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Pentecost, and other Masses of the Holy Spirit and feasts of Martyrs. It symbolizes the majesty of Christ in his Passion and the heroic shedding of martyrs’ Blood. White: Used during Christmas, Easter, Solemnities of Christ, feasts of the Blessed Mother, Virgins, and confessors. It symbolizes Resurrection, purity, birth, rebirth, and holiness. Also used at weddings and funerals.

Christian Initiation of Adults

is pleased to extend an invitation to anyone who is interested in learning

more about the Catholic Church.

In the RCIA process, one is able to learn and ask questions to determine if this is where God

is calling them. If there is a desire to be received into the church, the team works closely in helping individuals discern their next step towards full initia-tion in the Church. We invite those who may be interested in our Catholic faith or those who may want to look into becoming a sponsor, to join us Tuesday evenings at 7:30PM in the Fr. Joseph Gregorek Library. For more information on the process, please call Danny or Vicki Centurioni at 909 987 7971.

You and Your Grief during the Holiday Season

With good reason, holiday seasons are often the most difficult of times for people who have ex-perienced the death of someone loved. Holidays are intended to be times of joy, family, together-ness, gift giving, and thankfulness. Yet, if some-

one is your life has died, holidays can also naturally bring times of sadness, loss, and emptiness. The full sense of loss of someone loved never occurs all at once. The onset of the holiday season often makes you realize how much your life has been changed by the loss. A person that has been a vital part of your life is no longer present. You have every right to have feelings of loss, emptiness, and sadness. Unfortunately, many people surrounding you may try to take these feelings away. Friends, family and sometimes even professional caregivers erroneously believe that their job is to distract you from these feelings. To “forget about it”, or worse yet, to “”try to be happy is to minimize the profound loss you have experienced. While there are no simple guidelines to follow that make it easy to cope with your grief during the holiday season, hopefully, the following suggestions will help you make your personal experience with holiday grief more tolerable.

Talk about your grief Eliminate unnecessary stresses Be with people you find supportive and comforting Do what is right for YOU during the holidays Plan ahead to avoid anxiety, fear and panic Face & Treat chronic health issues Rest Embrace your treasure of memories Express your faith Focus on the essence of Christmas: the present of Jesus’ presence in our lives!

May a relationship with Jesus be our miracle and encouragement this Christmas! "Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!" (2 Cor. 9:15) Please contact Debby Leonardo, Pastoral Care at 909-987-9312 Ext 302 or Andrea Woore, Grief Facilitator at 909-261-3487 for more information and resources on Grief.

“God made the world for the delight of human beings-- if we could see His goodness everywhere, His concern for us, His awareness of our needs: the phone call we've waited for, the ride we are offered, the letter in the mail, just the little things He does for us throughout the day. As we remember and notice His love for us, we just begin to fall in love with Him because He is so busy with us -- you just can't resist Him. I believe there's no such thing as luck in life, it's God's love, it's His.” ― Mother Teresa Thank you for your continued support of our parish family. May God bless you during this beautiful season of Advent.
