Ottawa, Canada, 8/6/12 -- Rows of pasture and livestock filled my frostbitten window, as though the airplane were barreling straight into a more bucolic time long gone. This was certainly not the bustling city we had departed from and certainly not Pleasanton. As I nestled back into my seat, I glanced at my brother, David. He wasn’t paying the slightest attention. His mind was on different things. I knew without even asking: he was one of hundreds traveling to Canada’s capital for the 2012 Taekwon-Do World Championships, and this thought can be daunting to even the most seasoned competitor, never mind that this was his first time competing.

David was just one of many Pleasanton Taekwon-Do practitioners making the journey. With him came competitors Selina Lao, Eric Jeong, Julianne Lim, Vlada Lipkind, David Bendebury, Smita Nalluri, Annalise Stevenson, Varsha Ramakrishnan, Jaewon Kim, Helen Lee, Rishika Baral, Billy Hester, Gaurav Gulati, Nihar Patil, Daniel Park, and Sarina Kapai; coaches Pete Spraggins and myself, Catherine Jue; photographer Ted Hick; head instructor Master Gordon Jue; and an array of supporting parents and family. We joined roughly 100 other competitors, coaches, instructors, and masters to comprise Team USA, which was one of many countries including the UK, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Croatia, Argentina, and of course, the home team, Canada.

The competition brought many obstacles beyond simply defeating our competitors. The built-up stress while waiting to compete, the new environment, and the pressure to prove one’s name took their tolls on each of the competitors from both our school and from the rest of Team USA. Our students tackled the challenge head first with their guards up and legs aimed at their competitors.

And while taking home over twenty-three medals is no easy feat, Canada offered so much more to competitors and spectators alike. To practice something that surpasses language barriers and cultural differences and the opportunity to come together with so many old acquaintances and new faces is something special that no medal can replace. These memories will certainly stay with each of us as we return to our daily routines and carry us forward to our next world championship in Italy 2014.

A veteran’s account! (a blog from Australia)

Posted on August 11, 2012by roadtocanada2012

Well what a first few days of the tournament; stress management

is certainly NOT my forte!

The build-up to mine and Josh’s fights was so intense I was very sick

(read into this as you will) before my fight. My first bout was against an American 4th Degree who

I stalked for a day to watch his flexibility. When the time came my strategy was confirmed by

Christophe literally 30 seconds before the fight. Christophe noted that he only kicked with his right foot which made it a

little easier to match his stance and taking his main attack out of the equation.

Needless to say I got great instructions from Christophe which was to “just punch-on”! I got through both rounds with no

significant damage. My next opponent was an Argentinean with clear punching power. He had destroyed his first opponent

with not one kick so I knew it was going to be difficult. Instructions from Christophe were very different this time; “punch-

on” which I did and thankfully got in first.

My third fight (winner to gold medal round) was always going to be difficult. My opponent (an Italian) has an excellent

reputation of being a very strong fighter; very flexible and great with his feet and hands. I knew I had to get in first which I

did but being the experience fighter that he is, he ran around the ring for 30 seconds or so to recover. After that he

proceeded to systematically “pop a cap in my ass” – game over J!

The elation I felt was unbelievable i.e. I felt as if I had won gold! After the fight my Italian opponent came over with

Christophe as his interpreter. He presented me with an Italian team shirt and said I fought with tremendous spirit. A

Canadian official also introduced himself and said I showed TKD spirit as I lost and still smiling.

I am still in awe of the talent on display here in Ottawa. With respect to all my TKD opponents I have encountered in

Australia this is at least 3 levels up from what I am used to. I have loved my time here made all the better by the extremely

courteous Canadians. Thanks for all the well-wishes via Facebook it is certainly much appreciated!

Jung Hwa TKD shines in Ottawa

Posted on August 10, 2012by roadtocanada2012

Oh What a day. Day 1, Wednesday saw our junior

students start the competition. Young David made

us all very proud by winning his first pattern bout

against a very good Japanese competitor. He

ended up losing his second round, narrowly I must

say, against the eventual winner. Day 2, yesterday,

was the start for our senior crew with Richie in a

more than tough draw; I decided to hide a few facts from

him (i.e ex & current world champions in his division….) as he was fairly nervous, to say the least…Around 2 pm, when his name

was called to his ring, we had a plan / strategy, very easily resumed: 1 hard kick and punch on!!!! Well, for once, Richie decided to

listen to me, kick / punched on, to the delight of a large crowd…his opponent, 4th degree from the US, ended up on the ground,

semi dazed…and Richie copped a foul for excessive contact (rules are 3 fouls = disqualification). Nevertheless, I told him to keep up

the same strategy, which he did, and won the fight. Awesome. Next was a quarter final, against Argentina (toughest country..); we

watched the Argentinian fighter in his previous bout, a hard puncher, so I told Richie to be in his face ….and punch on. Richie

followed this advice to the letter, got in his face the whole bout, and destroyed the poor Argentinian with some great body kicks and

punches. We were in the semifinal, and knew we had that coveted bronze medal!!!

Next up was Italy, Stefano Bulla, 5th degree, world champion. Richie tried his best, did us proud but narrowly lost to Bulla (who won

the Gold)

Richie, BRONZE medal in Sparring, what a legend!!!!

Day 3, today, will see Stephanie, Jake & Josh start, with David also in Individual Power & Special techniques, am so proud of them all

already!!!

Day 3 – The greatest in my TKD life!!!

Posted on August 11, 2012by roadtocanada2012

Oh what a Day!!!!! All Jung Hwa TKD students (except Richie) were

up competing today, so I knew i was in for a big day of coaching…

It all started with David, who, as a young 15 yo, gave it his best in

Special and Power, but was unfortunately not able to go through to

the finals. Anyhow, 2 more years, he’ll still be a Junior, so no doubts

he’ll be in contention for a medal. Next up, Stephanie was pitted in a

strong field in patterns 3rd degree. In her draw were all the Argentinians and an

English girl, European champion. Guess what? the 12 years Stephanie spent training, sweating, going hard at it paid off and

she beat them all to make it to the final against the American girl that beat her in Korea. Her final bout was perfect and

Stephanie brought our club our first ever gold medal!!!!!!

After this highlight of my life, another proud moment was witnessing the ‘Seniors Male Sparring’ medal presentation. Seeing

Richie being called up to the podium to receive his well-earned medal – a proof that red wine and champagne are compatible

with our art!!! – made me a very proud coach. Next up, Josh, had his sparring division called. As we proceeded towards the

ring, looking around, all of his opponents were, let’s say, massive… and Josh was straight up against an Argentinian (he was

lucky enough to have drawn a by so was straight in quarter final). He his characteristic “punch on” style, he gave it his all,

knocking the Argentinian out once, twice, to earn the right to proceed to the semifinal. We knew then he was a shot for gold.

Unfortunately, his semifinal didn’t go exactly as planned. His opponent, from Moldova (ex-Russian province) had a similar

fighting style, so the fight was one of the hardest i ever witnessed, with both trading blow for blow. Judges saw it as a draw,

and in the extra time round, Josh lost by 1 point….. nevertheless, this bronze medal brought our club tally to 2, awesome!!!!

Last up, Jake fought what I believe the best fight of his life against another competitor from Moldova. After leading the first

round, displaying super kicking style (he hit his opponent with a wonderful turning kick to the head) he eventually narrowly

lost. Great fight Jake!!!

I am so proud of those 5 competitors, and I can’t wait for the remaining 2 days of competition

After a yearlong run contests and central training with it was announced who was to Canada to participate in the

World Cup 2012. There were five selected and ilhame, Luc, Melissa, Alison and yes I! There was one thing on my

head and that was yesss!

And Winodj also went along as a participant I was sure happy, I already have some matches with Winodj with it. So

you know that what you have together.

After much additional training with the team and myself have had yet hard to have trained with Dirk at the oddest

ways and times and sometimes with Rico had come.

I got rid of it when it was still 191 days to go sit down counting. Until this moment, Monday, August 6 we saw each

other again at the airport to leave for Canada, with stops between Detroit. Because we thought to go smoothly

anyway ...?

Well not so first we had to arrange something that took us half an hour and when we arrived we had in Detroit

quickly walk on the treadmills, haha you'd have seen us. Arriving at the gate, and yes you guessed it probably,

problems with the boarding pass. Because of these problems, we left an hour later, fortunately the plane waiting for

us.

Finally arrived in Canada and there we found out that Steve and Alison their suitcases still in Detroit it to their liking

and had decided to stay there for 2 days. They had to pass some information to a special counter.

As we continue on their were waiting and what turned Steve could not go in because I had because his bag with

passport with me haha! Well luckily I could still quickly back to Steve to give back his passport and yes 5 minutes

later we stood with his all at a coffee shop to eat and drink waiting for the bus.

So finally in the hotel just change and then down to rest again to see what to eat at a restaurant nearby. We had

arrived at a Canadian / Scottish restaurant where we were served by Mrs. ........ Unfortunately, she was not nice. But

the food was very tasty, well then we still go swimming and go to sleep because the next day we had to be ready by

the weighting to come.

Day 2

The weighting was with us at the hotel at 15:15 and we were on the turn and everyone got a little something for the

organization. Everyone came without problems by weighing back and we could then continue to enjoy the day.

So what do you look for souvenirs. Well easy is another word for who like doing something fun and who know

which size. Luc and I soon had some nice things and then the rest of it, but not for everyone. The time went really

fast, we saw here shoes and shoes there, there were also girls with it, so yes, you do not escape.

We came to a clearing in the mall where we went to dinner, because everyone had something to choose. There were

12 food stalls next to each other, so plenty of choice, and what you take after eating: an ice cream. And Winodj,

yeah that was for us at the ladies behind the counter discount arranged! Haha special price, well done Winodj!

Day 3

The ceremony and the match went launched today.

The first half of the ceremony, I do not because I made it with Alison was chosen for the Netherlands to come out with the flag

parade to walk. I found this really cool, just like I had walked with the flag, but here they flag carriers. When each country had

proposed we could sit down and we got to see a demo of which everyone thought: well this is a little disappointing. And in the end

everyone was cheering, clapping and even crying.

I will describe a little: it began with one teacher and 12 students who did exercises and a white belt did not do well. Who had to go

and got a preekje imprints of the teacher. Then there was a little contest with the same white belt, now blue, lost and was comforted

by the teacher. Then they stood back to train and was the same person already become a red banderole and earned a black belt. Then

they did it again with a contest and was the pupil (still the same) and flew the first teacher to his neck. Then it started again in the

dojang but without the first teacher. Now that white bandertje asked of the teacher and the cycle began again. It was really beautiful

and hard not to tear.

Then began the World Cup with Tuls and Melissa and Luc were soon turn. The whole team alongside and stood ready to cheer and if

necessary to the participants to absorb. Both had a strong opponent and unfortunately fell out of the league.

The next part was sparring for juniors and Melissa was the first, but that was not so good, she was not good at the moment of the

flames and lost an American opponent.

Luc was soon after the turn and sparde calm and collected and advanced to the second round. There he stood against an Italian and

the first round, well Luc really well done, you did really great. In the 2nd round, the Italian back with his fists and jumped to Luc

always his neck. Luc did not always, and yes, gave the Italian a few loud clicks and a few times on his nose ;) The result was a draw

so an extension of 1 minute. Luc fought hard and chose the attack but unfortunately he lost that game, but with his head.

This was just in my eyes the final party should be respectful guys. Now only on this day we thought the high jump and then Melissa

and Luc ready. But this ran out and they did not turn so wait another day.

Come back at the hotel, the friendliest bus all with bus driver Thurs With the group we agreed that we would back down at 7:30 to

go to the mall to get something to eat. Here we are indeed eating every day, except the first and last day. So you also have to know

haha ...

Day 4

This was a quiet nasty day! One day we have done nothing. The World Cup was all a little bit. The only ones

who were busy with Peter Officiating, Arie by photographing and Ali (son) with the distribution of the orange

lucky birds .. Furthermore ... we had a quiet day at the hotel and Melissa, Luc and I go swimming after eating.

Day 5

It would be the busiest day and yes it definitely was! Ilhame, Alison and I had to bake the Tuls, which we

unfortunately did nothing to gain and were disappointed in the fact that we had lost.

Melissa was the turn of the high jump and had a few girls there some which I do not even have to jump to the

board to come! Soon it was clear who was first, so now it was up to the rest to show we are number 2 and 3.

And yes, Melissa showed they had wings and jump with a full yop in the board and gained the 2nd place.

Alison was already working on the firs and made a hard round kick and her opponent was equally afraid. You

saw the fire already Ali (son) her eyes and she clearly won this game. The next game was a bit trickier, against

an Argentinian and she certainly was not afraid! The whole team screaming alongside Ali to encourage and

yes it took them inside! The most exciting was really the final with the toughest opponent of the pool (logical

in a World Cup final) and yesssss! gold for ALI! Unfortunately there is not much time to enjoy what ilhame

was to fight.

Page 16: seat, I glanced at my brother, David. He wasn’t paying the ... · Jung Hwa TKD shines in Ottawa Posted on August 10, 2012by roadtocanada2012 Oh What a day. Day 1, Wednesday saw

And who made mincemeat of the opponent, and yes Winodj was also summoned and thus stood Ad with him to coach

and I at ilhame. Who can understand me happy even after I already lost half of the shout and shout and guess what:

both through to the next round, which ilhame the finals. After waiting a while it was time: the final of ilhame! Which

the heavy and had fought like a beast. It was like a boxing match, both ladies did not give up and fought to the bitter

end which could be only one winner and that was ......... ilhame, another of orange.

After a short party everyone was all done on the side because Winodj should get back to the bucket and moisture very

nice and super-fast with many beautiful techniques. It was such a large group that we had to wait another fifteen

minutes. Meanwhile my poule called and I had to be ready to go spruce. It was mentally a lot better after all games and

practices that I have done for this contest and I stood there and was ready.

But I was not the only one who thought so, my opponent thought so. It was in the first half not so good and I was on

the side where the team was to Steve what should I do ......? The second half started and it went a bit better. But

somehow it did not come out and it failed. When the time was over, I knew it, I had lost a World Cup, well phew that

was anything but happy, the team was ready for me.

But Winodj was still in and hop with its all ready for him, and yelling and screaming, he could not do so to spruce as

the party before. Winodj stood behind in the first round, then I ran like crazy outside, 2 pawns caught and to ilhame

data, which we used as a megaphone. Unfortunately the Winodj not, he has certainly done his best, but lost this game.

The day was over, with the result 2 gold medals and 1 silver! Many were happy and some less, because it is quite

difficult to be happy for another, as in the Netherlands you have trained and fought so hard for it and then lose it.

But it's only just a smile designing, because let's be honest, that girls who have earned .....

Day 6

The day of the presentation of the medals to the girls. It took a while, but yes, it was well worth the anthem 2 times to

hear Melissa and her silver medal in reception to see take. When it was clear that today I do not turn came to breaking

the power went out early.

Unfortunately, Peter could not count, which had Officiating and he was also on the main stage Officiating, pretty cool!

So we are already gone away and went looking for souvenirs for home and lovely things for ourselves, of course. Well

we have some past there, our bags were packed, as our bellies.

Back at the hotel are Luc and I still go swimming and there were some English contestants and you'll never guess GM

Choi Hwa was also a look in the pool! Who said he liked it so well that we could handle.

Day 7

The last competition. everyone on the team was in the hall and stood ready for me when I had to break. I was the only

one of the orange team today part do. I was quite nervous, but after going through steps of 6 boards with yop, I was a

lot calmer and what came next. A punch on 5 shelves and pfff this I had never beaten. I stood for the buck, measure the

distance from, and everything went through my head at myself angry and thought now or never and hit with all my

strength ..... through the planks ... yesss succeeded , in round!

Page 17: seat, I glanced at my brother, David. He wasn’t paying the ... · Jung Hwa TKD shines in Ottawa Posted on August 10, 2012by roadtocanada2012 Oh What a day. Day 1, Wednesday saw

Now came the circular stairs and this time with 6 shelves. I break in a different way than any other, this

interpolator as I learned and I will always continue to do so. And kick them 1 time and by many coaches and

participants from various countries came to me to tell me that she really liked way of breaking and very

special.

But then I was not there yet, I still had to messlag thereby I had 5 boards tip. This I could unfortunately not,

but I was through to the next round by the number that I had won. Now had a reverse hook kick create 6

boards, so yes I stand and measure, but I really one of the hardest breaking techniques, but luckily I managed

to get through to come, unfortunately not without damage to my feet, but I was through. When I was told that

I again had to break the third to be. This was because I have not the messlag went. What do you think we

should do: a technique on 7 boards and yes, it was a hook kick!

There I was, this was my last chance to get a medal at the World Cup, now it was all or nothing. Well here

goes, I had to measure and yes, this should only 1 time and I saw that I was standing too close and set me

back a bit, but the hook ladder with 6 boards I have injured my foot .. at that time went through my head:

stairs, and do not think of your foot and guess what I kicked with all my strength and all my speed and

technique all I needed. But I kicked so hard, that I extended body and besides I was kicked out and the

shelves on the side and remained intact. Again no price and then it was over and realized that I need to ...

Last day means a prom, where I am right in my sense. With Luc often just went to look at the dance floor

and what happens, I just stood there dancing, yes really! I dance, ahahah Alexandra from Russia. It really

was a top evening, I also went with Alison and Steve a cup to do with an evening in the hotel restaurant. Yet

what to talk and we saw there that the party was over around 2 am.

Luc, Melissa, Luc English, Bratt I thought, and even an English guy, just ask Melissa, hahaha, asked if we

went along to the Mac, well we went and what fun we had. We went just a night and at 5:30 we were in the

pool at 6:30 and we just sat back for breakfast. Later we took the suitcases went down and everyone was on

the check. An hour or two later we were in the bus on the way to the airport and get some pictures. Well

there we are really much. Thanks to our photographer Arie, it's really all up and top photos.

Day 8 Weather in the Netherlands

After a long journey we finally arrived back in the Netherlands, at home. All well and suitcases were

coming. We collected a little and said something to each other and walked through the door, where a large

group of us welcomed in orange, red, white and blue confetti, flowers and balloons, not normal so cool!

Everyone pictures, even strangers, haha it was absolutely beautiful and after each day have said we went

home and was about the crowds and finally get some rest.

Among athletes attending the Pluricampionessa world Maestra Silvia Farigu, which following the injury looked only in the specialty of shapes, and reigning world champion Frederick Mascia # 2010 # Gold in Korea. The day of August 7 was dedicated to training, registrations and meetings. The group immediately showed great concentration and team spirit. Wednesday 8 the day begins with the opening ceremony and the presentation of ITF President and authorities. The competition begins in the early afternoon with the junior categories. In the speciality of shape, Sara Gallons, Francesco Iaboni, Geoffrey Fernandez and Federico Mascia fail to overcome the eliminatory phase, showing a good technical level. On the other hand, Frederick Puddu carries out a great performance to win the title of world champion in the category I dan, one of the most complicated in the Junior Division. The Italian team turns and with fighting the 5 athletes win ben 3 finals! The first to go down on the tatami and Sara Gallons, at her first world experience against a more experienced Argentine athlete who, despite the superiority of gallons for much of the match, managed to win the match. The next day opens with the men's junior final. For Italy, Federico Mascia in search of his second title and Godfrey Fernandez. Great performance for both athletes who win the highest step of the podium. The demonstration continues with breaking techniques and specialty teams. Frederick Puddu conquers an important bronze medal in speciality of individual power tests. In the Italy team specials participates with just 4 athletes and therefore cannot stand in the way of forms. Despite the numerical disadvantage, however there are medals in any other specialty. In the fighting, the Italy team eliminates the England in the semifinals with a heavy 3-0. Very good performance even in the final where the numerical disadvantage encourages Argentina to victory with a result of 2-1.

It was held in Ottawa, Canada, the ITF World Championship for junior, adult and senior. The Italian delegation, led by Chairman Tolu, Vice President, M° Caiazzo and Secretary Maestro Farigu, had the presence of 13 athletes and 1 judge.

Mascia, Fernandez, Puddu and truly demonstrate great qualities Iaboni, bringing home two more medals to teams, in the specialty of special techniques and tests of power. The junior competition concludes with 2 golds, 2 silver and 3 bronzes for Italy. On the same day of 9, starts the race for senior categories. For optimal performance of Italy M° Stefano Bulla that wins a gold in combat specialities and a bronze in special techniques. The day closes with awards ceremony. The 10 August is the day of the adult. In the speciality of shape the medals arrive from M° Farigu, gold in the category IV dan, and Enrico Locci, bronze in the category I dan. Good evidence of NiccolòTolu, Alessia Locci, Carlos Stefanelli and Gaetano Garnet that exceed some preliminary approaching the podium in their respective categories. In the fighting Locci and Garnet come out in the first round despite a good performance, Tolu is eliminated by a Canadian athlete after a resounding failure. Stefanelli, junior world Vice-Champion, and his first experience of adult, exceeds the stages qualifying rounds and won yet another final. The August 11 event begins with the team competitions. A Champion’s welcome for

TaeKwon-Do Ireland’s

Superstar

If you were at Cork Airport last Saturday you would be forgiven for

thinking that one of the Olympic champions was arriving home late! A

crowd of around 70 supporters gathered in the arrivals hall, decked out in

green, white and gold to welcome home TaeKwon-Do expert – Paul

Manning, who was arriving home having won the World Championships in

Ottawa, Canada.

Not to be confused with Sports (Olympic) TaeKwon-Do, Traditional TaeKwon-Do (the martial art) has a larger

global following. Every two year the World Championships are held. Bandon TaeKwon-Do school has been at the

fore front of the Irish success story for the past number of years. Under the expert guidance of Mr. Gerard Allen

– International Coach for TaeKwon-Do Ireland, Bandon has taken the following accolades at the World

Championships:

2008 – Birmingham – David O’Mahony – Junior World Champion Silver medalist

2010 – Korea – James Dwyer – Senior Male Sparring Gold Medalist

2012 – Canada – Paul Manning – Senior Male Sparring Gold Medalist

Mr. Manning’s training for this World Championships started as soon as he arrived back from Korea in 2010

with a bronze medal in his bag. Already a force to be reckoned with on the Irish circuit, Paul was determined to

put in the effort and follow in the footsteps of his club mate James Dwyer and bring home a gold medal. There

was rarely a weekend when he was at home. If not squad training then he was competing either in Ireland or

across Europe, almost always winning gold and building on his experience. Luckily Paul’s girlfriend, Aoife

O’Brien – also a student at Bandon TKD, is very understanding!

Paul and his instructor Gerard, travelled to Ottawa (self-funded, along with some help from fundraising in

the local TaeKwon-Do clubs and TaeKwon-Do Ireland) for the 7 day international event. Over 50 countries

were represented and the cream of the world’s TaeKwon-Do experts were all there, chasing the coveted

title of Taekwon-Do World Champion.

Paul was lucky enough to get a bye in his first round. Then he fought his way against tough competitors

from Russia, Australia and Argentina to make it to the finals.

And what a final it was! Paul met another Argentinian in the final. Both coaches had been watching each

other’s fighters’ style in previous bouts so the fight started of slowly with each competitor trying to force a

mistake from the other. Once they got the feel for each other the two fighters blurred together, showing

off the style and speed that traditional TaeKwon-Do sparring is so admired for. As the bell went at the end

of the fight the stadium was ringing to the chant of “Ireland, Ireland, Ireland”. A hush fell over the stadium

as the chief umpire stood to announce the decision, followed by a loud groan as both hands were raised in

a draw.

Rules state that all scores must be reset and the competitors fight for a further 60 seconds to see who can

score the most points. Mr. Manning put on an electrifying performance, scoring (as judged by his coach) 4

points to Argentina’s 1. Unfortunately the judges didn’t see it that way and boo’s echoed around the

stadium as, again, both hands were raised in a draw.

Now it went to “The Golden Point” Here the first person to score a point – as sighted by 2 or more

judges is deemed to be the winner. Mr. Allen and Mr. Manning had played this game of cat and

mouse many times over the past 14 years. Patience is the key. After what seemed like an eternity

of ducking, weaving and blocking, Paul saw his opening, side stepped his opponent and scored a

beautiful turning kick into the Argentinian’s mid-section. The center referee stopped the fight

and the roof almost lifted off the stadium as All four judges stood and acknowledged the score!

Later that day Mr. Paul Manning was presented with his World Championship Gold Medal by

Master Nestor Galarraga, Tournament Director and an Argentinian himself!

The following night at the closing ceremony party all the competitors got together in big

spirits and toasted the new World Champion from Ireland!

Overall in the medal standings for combined individual and team events, Argentina received a total of 96 medals; USA

received a total of 62 medals and Canada received a total of 46 medals.

The celebratory party after the competition was a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, obtain contact information, take

photos, trade articles (uniforms, gym bags, T-shirts, etc) and build long lasting relationships with fellow Taekwon-do

practitioners from around the world.

We would like to thank all the athletes, coaches, instructors, umpires, judges and parents who dedicated their time and money

to travel and compete in Canada, as well as our organizing committee, our sponsors, the first aid representatives and the

countless volunteers; without all of you the event would not have been such a success.

We hope our guests enjoyed their stay in the heart of Downtown Ottawa as well as enjoyed their experience at the World

Championship. The entire Canadian Delegation, organizing committee, parents and volunteers are very proud to have been

involved with hosting this event and did their best to make the athletes feel at home while in Canada.

A video was created to welcome the athletes to Ottawa and can be viewed at http://vimeo.com/47296224. The official

photographer has several photos available for sale at http://www.illusivedreams.ca/ITF_Cover/index.html. Canada also created

a song for the occasion and it can be heard at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBBFcqm8Lys.

We feel that this World Championship was a great success and hope everyone has memories to share with others about your

experience in Canada. Canadians were sad to see their friends depart; but are already looking forward to meeting again in

2014.
