For two years from the date of purchase, when this Craftsman Snow thrower is maintained,lubricated, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance instructions in theowner's manual, Sears will repair, free of charge, any defect in material or workmanship.

If this Craftsman Snow thrower is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warranty ap-plies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.

This warranty does not cover the following:

• Items which become worn during normal use, such as spark plugs, drive belts and shearpins.

• Repair necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent crankshaftsand the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions contained in theowner's manual.

TRAINING

1. Read this operating and service instructionmanual carefully. Be thoroughly familiarwith the controls and the proper use of thesnow thrower. Know how to stop the snowthrower and disengage the controls quick-ly.

2. Never allow children to operate the snowthrower. Never allow adults to operate thesnow thrower without proper instruction.

3. Keep the area of operation clear of all per-sons, particularly small children and pets.

4. Exercise caution to avoid slipping or fallingespecially when operating in reverse.

PREPARATION

1. Thoroughly inspect the area where thesnow thrower is to be used and remove alldoormats, sleds, boards, wires, and otherforeign objects.

2. Disengage all clutches before starting theengine (motor).

3. Do not operate the snow thrower withoutwearing adequate winter outer garments.Wear footwear that will improve footing onslippery surfaces.

4. Handle fuel with care; it is highly flam-mable.

a. Use an approved fuel container.

b. Never remove fuel tank cap or add fuelto a running engine (motor) or hot en-gine (motor).

c. Fill fuel tank outdoors with extremecare. Never fill fuel tank indoors.

d. Replace fuel cap securely and wipe upspilled fuel.

e. Never store fuel or snow thrower withfuel in the tank inside of a buildingwhere fumes may reach an open flameor spark.

f. Check fuel supply before each use, al-lowing space for expansion as the heatof the engine (motor) and/or sun cancause fuel to expand.

5. For all snow throwers with electric startingmotors use electric starting extensioncords certified CSA/UL Use only with a re-ceptacle that has been installed in accord-ance with local inspection authorities.

6. Never attempt to make any adjustmentswhile the engine (motor) is running (exceptwhen specifically recommended by manu-facturer).

7. Let engine (motor) and snow thrower ad-just to outdoor temperatures before startingto clear snow.

8. Always wear safety glasses or eye shieldsduring operation or while performing an ad-justment or repair to protect eyes fromforeign objects that may be thrown from thesnow thrower.

OPERATION1. Do not operate this snow thrower ifyou are

taking drugs or other medication which cancause drowsiness or affect your ability tooperate this snow thrower.

2. Do not use the snow thrower if you arementally or physically unable to operate thesnow thrower safely.

3. Do not put hands or feet near or under ro-tating parts. Keep clear of the dischargeopening at all times.

4. Exercise extreme caution when operatingon or crossing gravel drives, walks orroads. Stay alert for hidden hazards ortraffic.

5. After striking a foreign object, stop the en-gine (motor), remove the wire from thespark plug, thoroughly inspect snowthrower for any damage, and repair thedamage before restarting and operatingthe snow thrower.

6. If the snow thrower should start to vibrateabnormally, stop the engine (motor) andcheck immediately for the cause. Vibrationis generally a warning of trouble.

7. Stop the engine (motor) whenever youleave the operating position, before un-clogging the auger/impeller housing or dis-charge chute and when making anyrepairs, adjustments, or inspections.

8. When cleaning, repairing, or inspecting,make certain the auger/impeller and allmoving parts have stopped and all controlsare disengaged. Disconnect the spark plugwire and keep the wire away from the sparkplug to prevent accidental starting.

9. Take all possible precautions when leavingthe snow thrower unattended. Disengagethe auger/ impeller, stop engine (motor),and remove key.

10. Do not run the engine (motor) indoors, ex-cept when starting the engine (motor) andfor transporting the snow thrower in or outof the building. Open the outside doors; ex-haust fumes are dangerous (containingCARBON MONOXIDE, an ODORLESSand DEADLY GAS).

11. Do not clear snow across the face ofslopes. Exercise extreme caution whenchanging direction on slopes. Do not at-tempt to clear steep slopes.

12. Never operate the snow thrower withoutproper guards, plates or other safety pro-tective devices in place.

Do not over-reach. Keep proper footingand balance at all times.

Do not attempt to use snow thrower on aroof.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE1. Check shear bolts and other bolts at fre-

quent intervals for proper tightness to besure the snow thrower is in safe workingcondition.

2. Never store the snow thrower with fuel inthe tank inside a building where ignitionsources are present such as hot water andspace heaters, clothes dryers, and the like.Allow the engine (motor) to cool beforestoring in any enclosure.

3. Always refer to operator's guide instruc-tions for important details if the snowthrower is to be stored for an extendedperiod.

4. Maintain or replace safety and instructionlabels, as necessary.

5. Run the snow thrower a few minutes afterthrowing snow to prevent freeze-up of theauger/impeller.

_b WARNING: This snow thrower isfor use on sidewalks, drivewaysand other ground level surfaces.

Caution should be exercised while using onsteep sloping surfaces. DO NOT USESNOW THROWER ON SURFACES ABOVEGROUND LEVEL such as roofs of resi-dences, garages, porches or other suchstructures or buildings.

TO REMOVE SNOW THROWERFROM CARTON1. Locate all parts packed separately

and remove from the carton.NOTE: Place fuel stabilizer in asafe place until needed for storage.

2. Remove and discard the packingmaterial from around the snowthrower.

3. Cut down all four corners of the car-

ton and lay the panels flat.4. For shipping purposes, the height

adjust skids are attached to thepallet. Remove the screw that se-

cures each height adjust skid tothe pallet. See Figure 2.

5. Roll snow thrower off the pallet bypulling on the lower handle. CAU-TION: DO NOT back over controlcables.

6. Remove all packing material fromthe unit.

7. Cut ties securing the clutch controlcable to the lower handle and laycable back away from the motorframe.

TO ASSEMBLE THE HANDLE ANDCRANK ASSEMBLY1. Cut tie holding shift rod to lower

handle and move shifter to the firstforward gear.

2. Cut and discard the plastic tie thatsecures the crank assembly.

3. Loosen, but do not remove, thescrews, flatwashers, Iockwashers,and hex nuts in the upper holes ofthe lower handle. See Figure 3.

4. Remove the fasteners and the eye-bolt from the lower holes of the low-

er handle See Figure 5.

5. Raise the upper handle into operat-ing position.

NOTE: If the cables have become dis-connected form the drive levers, rein-

stall the cables as shown in Figure 4.

8. Tighten nut on eye bolt. Make sureeye bolt is properly aligned and thecrank can freely rotate.

HOW TO SET THE SKID HEIGHT

Your snow thrower is equipped withheight adjust skids on the outside of theauger housing. To adjust the skid

height for different conditions, see ToAdjust Skid Height paragraph in theService And Adjustment section.

HOW TO SET THE LENGTH OF THE CABLES

The cables were adjusted at the factoryand no adjustments should be neces-sary. However, after the handles are putin the operating position, the cables can

be too tight or too loose. If an adjust-ment is necessary, see "How To CheckAnd Adjust The Cables" in the ServiceAnd Adjustment section.

Before you operate your new snowthrower, to ensure that you receive thebest performance and satisfaction fromthis quality product, please review thefollowing checklist:

TO STOP YOURSNOW THROWER

1. To stop throwing snow, release theauger drive lever.

2. To stop the wheels, release thetraction drive lever.

3. To stop the engine, push thethrottle control lever to off and pullout the ignition key.

TO CONTROL SNOW DISCHARGE

1. Turn the chute control rod to set thedirection of the snow throwing.

2. Loosen the wing knob on the chutedeflector and move the deflector toset the distance. Move the deflector

(Up) for more distance, (Down) forless distance. Then tighten thewing knob (See Figure 9).

2. Engage the traction drive lever (lefthand). As the snow thrower startsto move, maintain a firm hold on thehandles, and guide the snow throw-er along the clearing path. Do notattempt to push the snow thrower.

3. To move the snow thrower back-ward, move the speed shifter leverright into first or second reverse andengage the traction drive lever (lefthand).

IMPORTANT: Do not move the speedshifter lever while the traction leveris down.

TO THROW SNOW

1. Push down the auger driver lever(right hand).

2. Release to stop throwing snow.

TO USE WHEEL LOCKOUT PIN

1. The left hand wheel is secured to

the axle with a klick pin. This unitwas shipped with this klick pin in thelocked position (through wheelhole). See Figure 10.

HOW TO MOVE FORWARD ANDBACKWARD

1. To shift, release the traction drivelever (left hand) and move the Lockedspeed shifter lever to the speed you Positiondesire. Ground speed is deter-mined by snow conditions. Select

2. For ease of maneuverability in lightsnow conditions, disconnect theklick pin from the wheel lockedposition and push into the singlewheel drive position (unlocked axlehole only). See Figure 11.

NOTE: Make sure that the klick pin isin the single wheel drive position of theaxle only and not through the lockedposition.

BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE

1. Before you service or start the en-gine, familiarize yourself with thesnow thrower. Be sure you under-stand the function and location of allcontrols.

2. Check the tension of clutch cablebefore starting the engine. See ToAdjust The Control Cable para-graph in the Service & Adjust-ments section of this manual.

3. Be sure that all fasteners are tight.

4. Make sure the height adjust skidsare properly adjusted. See To Ad-just Skid Height paragraph in theService & Adjustments section ofthis manual.

5. Check tire pressure (14-17pounds). Do not exceed maximumamount of pressure.

CHECK THE OIL:

NOTE: The engine was shipped fromthe factory filled with oil. Check the lev-el of the oil. Add oil as needed.

To Add Oil

1. Make sure the unit is level.

NOTE: Do not check the level of the

oil while the engine runs.F-021005L 12

Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick.Check the oil.

If necessary, add oil until the oilreaches the FULL mark on the oil fillcap/dipstick (see Figure 12). Do notadd too much oil.

4. Tighten the fill cap/dipstick securelyeach time you check the oil level.

NOTE: S.A.E. 5W30 motor oil may beused to make starting easier in areaswhere temperature is consistently 20°F.or lower.

FILL GAS:

The engine is certified to comply withCalifornia and US EPA emission regula-tions for ULGE (Utility or Lawn and Gar-den Equipment) engines. ULGEengines are certified to operate on reg-ular unleaded gasoline.

_ ARNING: Alcohol blendedfuels (called gasohol orthose using ethanol or

methanol) can attract moisturewhich leads to separation andformation of acids during storage.Acidic gas can damage the fuel sys-tem of an engine while in storage.

NOTE: To avoid engine problems, thefuel system must be emptied beforestorage for 30 days or longer. Start theengine and let it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty. Use freshfuel next season. See the Storagesection in this manual for additional in-formation.

Never use engine or carburetor cleanerproducts in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.

Fillthefueltankonlywithafresh,clean,unleadedregular,unleadedpre-mium,orreformulatedautomotivegas-oline.DONOTuseleadedgasoline.Makesurethatthecontaineryoupourthegasolinefromiscleanandfreefromrustorotherforeignparticles.Neverusegasolinethatmaybestalefromlongperiodsofstorageinthecontainer.

_ ARNING: Gasoline is flam-mable. Always use cautionwhen handling or storing

gasoline.

• Do not fill fuel tank while snow

thrower is running, when it is hot,or when snow thrower is in an en-closed area.

• Keep away from open flame or anelectrical spark and do not smokewhile filling the fuel tank.

• Never fill the tank completely. Fillthe tank to within 1/4"-1/2" from

the top to provide space for ex-pansion of fuel.

• Always fill fuel tank outdoors anduse a funnel or spout to preventspilling.

• Make sure to wipe up any spilledfuel before stating the engine.

• Store gasoline in a clean, ap-proved container and keep thecap in place on the container.

TO STOP ENGINE

To stop engine, move the throttle con-trol lever to "STOP" position and re-move key. Keep the key in a safeplace. The engine will not start withoutthe key.

TO START ENGINE

Be sure that the engine has sufficientoil. The snow thrower engine isequipped with a 120 volt A.C. electricstarter and recoil starter. Before start-ing the engine, be certain that you haveread the following information.

_ ARNING: The starter isequipped with a three-wirepower cord and plug and is

designed to operate on 120 volt AChousehold current. It must be prop-erly grounded at all times to avoidthe possibility of electrical shockwhich may be injurious to operator.

• Follow all instructions carefullyas set forth in the "To Start En-

gine" section.

• Determine that your house wiringis a three-wire grounded system.Ask a licensed electrician if youare not sure. If your house wiresystem is not a three-wire system,do not use this electric starter un-

der any conditions.

• If your system is grounded and athree-hole receptacle is not avail-able at the point your starter willnormally be used, one should beinstalled by a licensed electrician.

• When connecting 120 volt AC"Power Cord", always connect thecord to the Switch Box on the en-

gine first, then plug the other endinto the three-hole grounded re-ceptacle. When disconnecting"Power Cord", always unplug theend in the three-hole grounded re-ceptacle first.

How To Start A Cold Engine

1. Be sure auger drive and tractiondrive levers are in the disengaged(RELEASED) position.

2. Move throttle control to "FAST"

position.3. Insert the ignition key into the igni-

tion slot. Make sure it snaps intoplace. Do not turn key.

4. Rotate choke knob clockwise to thechoke ON position.

5. (Electric Start) Plug the power cordinto the switch box on the engine.Plug the other end of power cordinto a three-hole, grounded 120VOLT, AC receptacle.

6. Pushtheprimerbuttonasspeci-fiedbelow.Removefingerfromprimerbuttonbetweenpushes.• Donotpushiftemperature

above50° F(10°C).• Pushtwotimesiftemperatureis

below0° F(-18°C).7. (Electric Start) Push down on the

starter button until the enginestarts. Do not crank for more than10 seconds at a time. This electricstarter is thermally protected. Ifoverheated it will stop automaticallyand can be restarted only when ithas cooled to a safe temperature (await of about 5 to 10 minutes is re-quired).

8. (Recoil Start) Rapidly pull the re-coil starter handle. Do not allowthe recoil starter handle to snapback. Slowly return the recoil start-er handle.

9. If the engine does not start in 5 or 6tries, See Difficult Starting in the"Troubleshooting Table".

10. When the engine starts, move thechoke control to "1/2 choke" posi-tion. When engine runs smoothly,move choke control to the offPosition.

11. (Electric Start) First disconnectpower cord from receptacle. Then,disconnect the power cord from theswitch box.

12. Run engine at full throttle "FAST"when throwing snow.

Allow the engine to warm up for severalminutes before blowing snow in temper-atures below 0°F.

How To Start A Warm Engine

If restarting a warm engine after a shortshutdown, leave the choke lever in theoff position and do not push the primer

button. If the engine fails to start, followthe Cold Start instructions.

FROZEN STARTER

If the starter is frozen and will not turn

engine:

1. Pull as much rope out of the starteras possible.

2. Release the starter handle and let it

snap back against the starter. Re-peat until the engine starts.

To help prevent possible freeze-up ofrecoil starter and engine controls, pro-ceed as follows after each snow remov-al job.

1. With the engine running, pull thestarter rope hard with a continuousfull arm stroke three or four times.Pulling of starter rope will produce aloud clattering sound. This is notharmful to the engine or starter.

2. With the engine not running, wipe allsnow and moisture from the carbu-retor cover in area of control levers.Also move throttle control, chokecontrol, and starter handle severaltimes.

_ WARNING: Never run en-gine indoors or in enclosed,poorly ventilated areas. En-

gine exhaust contains CARBONMONOXIDE, AN ODORLESS ANDDEADLY GAS. Keep hands, feet,hair and loose clothing away fromany moving parts on engine andsnow thrower.

• The temperature of muffler andnearby areas may exceed 150°F.Avoid these areas.

• DO NOT allow children or youngteenagers to operate or be nearsnow thrower while it is operat-ing.

HOW TO REMOVE OBJECTSFROM AUGER

without taking the following precau-tions:

• Release auger drive lever.

• Move throttle lever to stop position.

• Remove (do not turn) ignition key.

• Disconnect spark plug wire.

• Do not place your hands in the au-ger or discharge chute. Use a prybar.

SNOW THROWING TIPS

1. For maximum snow thrower efficien-cy in removing snow, adjust groundspeed, NEVER the throttle. Goslower in deep, freezing or wetsnow. If the wheels slips, reduceforward speed. The engine is de-signed to deliver maximum perfor-mance at full throttle and should berun at this power setting at all times.

2. Most efficient snow throwing is ac-complished when the snow is re-moved immediately after if falls.

3. For complete snow removal, slightlyoverlap each path previously taken.

4. The snow should be dischargeddown wind whenever possible.

5. For normal usage, set the skids sothat the scraper bar is 1/8" abovethe skids. For extremely hard-packed snow surfaces, adjust the

skids upward so that the scraperbar touches the ground.

6. On gravel or crushed rock surfaces,set the skids at 1-1/4" below thescraper bar. See To Adjust SkidHeight paragraph in the Service &Adjustments section of this manu-al. Rocks and gravel must not bepicked up and thrown by the ma-chine.

7. After the snow throwing job hasbeen completed, allow the engine toidle for a few minutes, which willmelt snow and accumulated ice offthe engine.

8. Clean the snow thrower thoroughlyafter each use.

9. Remove ice and snow accumulationand all debris from the entire snow

thrower, and flush with water (if pos-sible) to remove all salt or otherchemicals. Wipe snow thrower dry.

For normal hard surfaces, such as apaved driveway or walk, adjust theskids as follows.

1. Position the snow thrower on a levelsurface.

2. Make sure both tires are equally in-flated. Proper tire pressure is 14 to17 PSI. See side of tire for maxi-mum inflation. Do not exceed maxi-

mum sidewall pressure on tire.

3. Place the extra shear bolts supplied(found in parts bag) under eachend of the scraper bar next to theadjustable skids.

4. Loosen the mounting nuts that holdthe adjustable skids. To bring thefront of the snow thrower down,

raise the adjustable skids. Tightenthe mounting nuts. See Figure 16.

NOTE: For rocky or uneven surfaces,raise the front of the snow thrower bymoving the skids down.

TO ADJUST SCRAPER BAR

After considerable use, the metal scrap-er bar will have a definite wear pattern.The scraper bar in conjunction with theskids should always be adjusted to al-low 1/8" between the scraper bar andthe sidewalk or area to be cleaned.

1. Position the snow thrower on a levelsurface.

2. Make sure both tires are equally in-flated. Proper tire pressure is 14 to17 PSI. See side of tire for maxi-mum inflation. Do not exceed maxi-

mum sidewall pressure on tire.

3. Loosen the carriage bolts and nutssecuring the scraper bar to the au-ger housing.

4. Adjust the scraper bar to the properposition.

6. For extended operation, the scraperbar may be reversed. If the scraperbar must be replaced due to wear,remove the carriage bolts and nutsand install a new scraper bar.

The traction drive belt has constant

spring pressure and does not requirean adjustment. If the traction drive beltis slipping, replace the belt. See "HowTo Replace The Belts" in the ServiceAnd Adjustment section.

Auger Drive Belt

If your snow blower will not dischargesnow, check the control cable adjust-ment. If it is correct, then check thecondition of the auger drive belt. If it isdamaged or loose, replace it (see "HowTo Replace The Belts" in this section ofthe manual).

1. Disconnect spark plug wire.

2. Remove screw from belt cover.Remove belt cover (see Figure 17).

5. Have someone engage auger driveclutch. Check tension on belt (op-posite idler pulley). Belt should de-flect about 1/2 inch (12.5 mm) withmoderate pressure (Figure 18). Youmay have to move idler pulley morethan once to obtain the correct ten-sion.

The cables are adjusted at the factoryand no adjustment should be neces-sary. If the cables have becomestretched or are sagging adjustment willbe necessary.

Whenever belts are adjusted or re-placed, the cables will need to be ad-justed.

To check for correct adjustment, un-hook "Z" fitting at clutch lever (see

Figure 23).

11. Remove the three fasteners thathold the friction wheel to the hub(see Figure 34).

hub. Slip the friction wheel offthehex shaft.

13. Assemble the new friction wheelonto hub with the fasteners re-moved earlier.

14. Install the hex shaft and bearingswith the four bolts removed earlier

(see Figure 35).

Make sure the washers are prop-erly installed in the original posi-tion. Also, make sure the twowashers are properly alignedwith the actuator arms.

HOW TO REPLACETHE AUGER SHEAR BOLT

The augers are secured to the augershaft with special shear bolts. Theseshear bolts are designed to break andprotect the machine if an object be-comes lodged in the auger housing. Donot use a harder bolt as the protectionprovided by the shear bolt will be lost.

,_ WARNING: For safety and toprotect the machine, useonly original equipment

shear bolts.

To replace a broken shear bolt, proceedas follows. Extra shear bolts were pro-vided in the assembly parts bag.

1. Move the throttle control to the stopposition. Disengage all controls.

2. Disconnect the spark plug wire.Make sure all moving parts havestopped.

3. Align the hole in the auger with thehole in the auger shaft. Install thenew shear pin and spacer. SeeFigure 36.

IMPORTANT: Never tamper with theengine governor, which is factory set forproper engine speed. Over-speeding

the engine above the factory highspeed setting can be dangerous. If youthink the engine-governed high speedneeds adjusting, contact your nearestSears Service Center, which has theproper equipment and experience tomake any necessary adjustments. an enclosed, poorly venti-lated area. If gasoline remains in thetank, fumes may reach an openflame, spark or pilot light from a fur-nace, water heater, clothes dryer,cigarette, etc.

To prevent damage (if snow thrower isnot used for more than 30 days) followthe steps below.

SNOW THROWER

1. Thoroughly clean the snow thrower.

2. Lubricate all lubrication points. Seethe Maintenance section.

3. Be sure that all nuts, bolts andscrews are securely fastened. In-spect all visible moving parts fordamage, breakage and wear. Re-place if necessary.

4. Touch up all rusted or chipped paintsurfaces; sand lightly before paint-ing.

5. Cover the bare metal parts of theblower housing auger and the im-peller with rust preventative, suchas a spray lubricant.

NOTE: A yearly checkup or tune-up bya Sears service center is a good way ofensuring that your snow thrower willprovide maximum performance for thenext season.

ENGINEGasoline must be removed or treated to

prevent gum deposits from forming inthe fuel tank, filter, hose, and carburetorduring storage. Also, during storage al-cohol blended gasoline that uses etha-nol or methanol (sometimes calledgasohol) attracts water. It acts on thegasoline to form acids which damagethe engine.


2. If you do not remove the gasoline,use fuel stabilizer supplied with unitor purchase Craftsman Fuel Stabi-lizer No. 3550. Add fuel stabilizer to

any gasoline left in the tank to mini-mize gum deposits and acids. If thefuel tank is almost empty, mix stabi-lizer with fresh gasoline in a sepa-rate container and add some to thefuel tank.

3. Always follow the instructions on thestabilizer container. After the stabi-

lizer is added to the fuel tank, runthe engine at least ten minutes toallow the mixture to reach the car-buretor.

4. Change the engine oil.

5. Lubricate the piston/cylinder area.First, remove the spark plug andsquirt a few drops of clean engineoil into the spark plug hole. Next,cover the spark plug hole with a ragto absorb oil spray. Then, pull two orthree times on the recoil starter ropeto rotate the engine. Finally, installthe spark plug and attach the sparkplug wire.

OTHER1. If possible, store your snow thrower

indoors and cover it to give protec-tion from dust and dirt.

2. If the snow thrower must be stored

outdoors, put the snow thrower onblocks to raise it off of the ground.

CALIFORNIA & US EPA EMISSIONCONTROL WARRANTY STATEMENT

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency("EPA"), the California Air Resources Board("CARB") and Sears, Roebuck and Co. arepleased to explain the Federal and CaliforniaEmission Control Systems Warranty on yournew small off-road engine. In California, new1995 and later small off-road engines must bedesigned, built and equipped to meet theState's stringent anti-smog standards. In oth-er states, new 1997 and later model year en-gines must be designed, built and equipped, atthe time of sale, to meet the U.S. EPA regula-tions for small non-road engines. Sears, Roe-buck and Co. will warrant the emission control

system on your small off-road engine for theperiods of time listed below, provided therehas been no abuse, neglect, unapproved mod-ification, or improper maintenance of yoursmall off-road engine.

Your emission control system may includeparts such as the carburetor, ignition systemand exhaust system. Also included may be thecompression release system and other emis-sion-related assemblies.

Where a warrantable condition exists, Sears,Roebuck and Co. will repair your small off-road engine at no cost to you for diagnosis,parts and labor.

MANUFACTURER'S EMISSIONCONTROL SYSTEM WARRANTY

COVERAGE

Emission control systems on 1995 and latermodel year California small off-road enginesare warranted for two years as hereinafternoted. In other states, 1997 and later modelyear engines are also warranted for two years.If, during such warranty period, any emission-related part on your engine is defective in ma-terials or workmanship, the part will berepaired or replaced by Sears, Roebuck andCo.

OWNER'S WARRANTYRESPONSIBILITIES

As the small off-road engine owner, you areresponsible for the performance of the re-F-021005L

quired maintenance listed in your Owner'sManual, but Sears, Roebuck and Co. will notdeny warranty solely due to the lack of receiptsor for your failure to provide written evidenceof the performance of all scheduled mainte-nance.

As the small off-road engine owner, youshould, however, be aware that Sears, Roe-buck and Co. may deny you warranty cover-age if your small off-road engine or a partthereof has failed due to abuse, neglect, im-proper maintenance or unapproved modifica-tions.

You are responsible for presenting your smalloff-road engine to a Sears, Roebuck and Co.Authorized Service Outlet as soon as a prob-lem exists. The warranty repairs should becompleted in a reasonable amount of time, notto exceed 30 days.

EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMWARRANTY

Emission Control System Warranty ("ECSWarranty") for 1995 and later model year Cali-fornia small off-road engines (for other states,1997 and later model year engines):

A. APPLICABILITY: This warranty shall applyto 1995 and later model year California smalloff-road engines (for other states, 1997 andlater model year engines). The ECS WarrantyPeriod shall begin on the date the new engineor equipment is delivered to its original, end-use purchaser, and shall continue for 24 con-secutive months thereafter.

B. GENERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTYCOVERAGE: Sears, Roebuck and Co. war-rants to the original, end-use purchaser of thenew engine or equipment and to each subse-quent purchaser that each of its small off-roadengines is:

1. Designed, built and equipped so as to con-form with all applicable regulations adopted bythe Air Resources Board pursuant to its au-thority in Chapters 1 and 2, Part 5, Division 26of the Health and Safety Code, and

2. Free from defects in materials and work-

manship which, at any time during the ECSWarranty Period, will cause a warranted emis-sions-related part to fail to be identical in allmaterial respects to the part as described inthe engine manufacturer's application for certi-fication.

C. The ECS Warranty only pertains to emis-sions-related parts on your engine, as follows:

1. Any warranted, emissions-related partswhich are not scheduled for replacement asrequired maintenance in the Owner's Manualshall be warranted for the ECS Warranty Peri-od. If any such part fails during the ECS War-ranty Period, it shall be repaired or replaced byF-021005L 32

Sears, Roebuck and Co. according to Subsec-tion 4 below. Any such part repaired or re-placed under the ECS Warranty shall bewarranted for any remainder of the ECS War-ranty Period.

2. Any warranted, emissions-related partwhich is scheduled only for regular inspectionas specified in the Owner's Manual shall bewarranted for the ECS Warranty Period. Astatement in such written instructions to the ef-

fect of "repair or replace as necessary", shallnot reduce the ECS Warranty Period. Anysuch part repaired or replaced under the ECSWarranty shall be warranted for the remainderof the ECS Warranty Period.

3. Any warranted, emissions-related partwhich is scheduled for replacement as re-quired maintenance in the Owner's Manual,shall be warranted for the period of time priorto the first scheduled replacement point forthat part. If the part fails prior to the first sched-uled replacement, the part shall be repaired orreplaced by Sears, Roebuck and Co. accord-ing to Subsection 4 below. Any such emis-sions-related part repaired or replaced underthe ECS Warranty, shall be warranted for theremainder of the ECS Warranty Period prior tothe first scheduled replacement point for suchemissions-related part.

4. Repair or replacement of any warranted,emissions-related part under this ECS War-ranty shall be performed at no charge to theowner at a Sears, Roebuck and Co. Autho-rized Service Outlet.

5. The owner shall not be charged for diagnos-tic labor which leads to the determination that

a part covered by the ECS Warranty is in factdefective, provided that such diagnostic workis performed at a Sears, Roebuck and Co. Au-thorized Service Outlet.

6. Sears, Roebuck and Co. shall be liable fordamages to other original engine componentsor approved modifications proximately causedby a failure under warranty of an emission-re-lated part covered by the ECS Warranty.

7. Throughout the ECS Warranty Period,Sears, Roebuck and Co. shall maintain a sup-ply of warranted emission-related parts suffi-cient to meet the expected demand for suchemission-related parts.

8. Any Sears, Roebuck and Co. authorizedand approved emission-related replacementpart may be used in the performance of anyECS Warranty maintenance or repair and willbe provided without charge to the owner. Such

useshallnotreduceSears,RoebuckandCo.ECSWarrantyobligations.9.Unapprovedadd-onormodifiedpartsmaynotbeusedtomodifyorrepairaSears,Roe-buckandCo.engine.SuchusevoidsthisECSWarrantyandshallbesufficientgroundsfordisallowinganECSWarrantyclaim.Sears,RoebuckandCo.shallnotbeliablehereunderforfailuresofanywarrantedpartsofaSears,RoebuckandCo.enginecausedbytheuseofsuchanunapprovedadd-onormodifiedpart.

CAPACITACI6N1. Lea con atenci6n las instrucciones en el

manual de operaci6n y servicio. Familiarf-cese completamente con los controles yel uso apropiado del quitanieves. Apren-da a detener el quitanieves y a desen-ganchar rapidamente los controles.

2. Nunca permita a nifios operar el quita-nieves. Nunca permita que adultos ope-ren el quitanieves sin la instrucci6napropiada.

3. Mantenga el area libre de personas, es-pecialmente nifios pequefios y mascotas.

PREPARACI6N1. Inspeccione completamente el area don-

(d) Vuelva a colocar la tapa del tanquede combustible de manera segura, ylimpie el combustible derramado.

(f) Verifique que el quitanieves tengasuficiente combustible antes de cada

MANTENIMIENTO YALMACENAMIENTO1. Revise los pernos con frecuencia para

C6MO SACAR EL QUITANIEVESDE LA CAJA1. Ubique todas las piezas que vienen

empaquetadas por separado ys&quelas de la caja.NOTA: Coloque el estabilizador decombustible en un lugar segurohasta que Io necesite para guardarla unidad.

2. Quite y deseche el material deempaque que rodea la unidad.

3. Haga un corte de arriba hacia abajoen cada esquina de la caja y dejelos paneles sobre el suelo.

4. Para prop6sitos de envio, los pa-tines de ajuste de altura, van suje-tos a la plataforma de envio. Saque

Su quitanieves esta equipado con patines deajuste de altura ubicados en la parte exteriordel alojamiento de la barrena. Para ajustarlos patines de altura para diferentes condi-

ciones, consulte "Ajuste de los patines dealtura", en la secci6n de Servicio y Ajus-tes.

C6MO ESTABLECER LA LONGITUD DE LOS CABLES

Puesto que los cables fueron ajustados en lafabrica, no es necesario que usted los ajus-te. Sin embargo, una vez que se instalan losmangos en la posici6n de operaci6n, es po-sible que los cables queden muy tirantes o

muy flojos. Si es necesario ajustarlos, con-suite el parrafo "C6mo revisar y ajustar loscables" que aparece en la secci6n de Servi-cio y Ajustes.

La operaci6n de cualquier quitanieves puedeocasionar que objetos extraSos sean lanza-dos con fuerza hacia los ojos, Io cual podriaresultar en lesiones graves. Use siempregafas de seguridad o protectores para losojos mientras opera el quitanieves.

Se recomiendan las gafas de seguridad es-tandar o la mascara de seguridad de visi6namplia para usarla sobre los anteojos.

_ ADVERTENCIA: Lea el manualdel propietario antes de operarla mbquina. Nunca dirija la des-

carga hacia los transedntes. Pare el mo-tor antes de desobstruir el canal de des-

carga o el alojamiento de la barrena y an-tes de dejar la mbquina.

3. Para mover el quitanieves en retroceso,mueva la palanca de cambio de velocida-des a la primera o segunda velocidad deretroceso y enganche la palanca de pro-pulsi6n por tracci6n (mano izquierda).

IMPORTANTE: Nunca mueva la palanca decambio de velocidades mientras la palancade propulsibn por traccibn est_ abajo.

COMBUSTIBLELa certificaci6n del motor indica que 6stecumple con las estipulaciones de las normasde regulaci6n de emisiones de California yde la US EPA para motores ULGE (en equi-po de servicio o para prados y jardines). Losmotores ULGE estan certificados para fun-cionar con gasolina regular sin plomo.

_1= DVERTENCIA: Los combusti-bles mezclados con alcohol

(llamados gasohol o aquellosque usan etanol o metanol) puedenatraer humedad la cual conduce a la se-paracibn y formacibn de _cidos duranteel almacenamiento. Los gases acidicospueden da_ar el sistema de combustiblede un motor mientras se encuentra enalmacenamiento.

NOTA: Para evitar problemas en el motor, elsistema de combustible debe vaciarse antesdel guardar la unidad por 30 dias o mas.Arranque el motor y d6jelo en marcha hastaque las lineas de combustible y el carbura-dor est6n vacfos. • Mantenga la unidad alejada de llamasabiertas o chispas el_ctricas y no fu-me mientras Ilena el tanque de com-bustible.

• Nunca Ilene el tanque completamente,Llene el tanque hasta dejar entre1/4-1/2 pulgada de la parte superiorpara proporcionar espacio para la ex-pansibn del combustible.

• Siempre Ilene el tanque al aire libre yuse un embudo o boquilla para preve-nir el derrame.

• Asegt_rese de limpiar cualquier com-bustible derramado antes de arrancarel motor.

• Almacene la gasolina en un conten-dor, limpio y aprobado, y mantenga latapa puesta y segura en elcontenedor.

PARADADELMOTOR

Para parar la marcha del motor, mueva lapalanca de control de aceleraci6n a la posi-ci6n PARAR y retire la Ilave. Mantenga laIlave en un lugar seguro. El motor no puedearrancar sin la Ilave de ignici6n.

ARRANQUEDELMOTORAseg_rese de que el motor tenga suficienteaceite. El motor del quitanieves esta equipa-do con un arrancador el6ctrico de 120 voltios

de corriente alterna y con un arrancador ma-nual. Antes de arrancar el motor, asegQresede haber leido la informaci6n siguiente:F-021005L 71

,_ ADVERTENCIA: El motor dearranque est& equipado con uncable de alimentacibn y enchu-

fe trifilar, diseSados para funcionar concorriente dom_stica de 120 voltios CA. Elcable de alimentacibn deber_ estar co-nectado a tierra en todo momento paraevitar la posibilidad de un choque el_ctri-co que podria lesionar al operador.

• Siga cuidadosamente todas las ins-trucciones de la seccibn "Arranquedel motor."

• Verifique que el alambrado el_ctricode su casa tenga un sistema trifilarconectado a tierra. Si no est& segurode esto, pregt_ntele a un electricistaprofesional. Si su casa no cuenta conun sistema de alambrado el_ctrico tri-filar, no use el arrancador el_ctricobajo ninguna circunstancia.

• Si su sistema est& conectado a tierra

pero no dispone de un tomacorrientestrifilar, en un punto conveniente paraenchufar su arrancador el_ctrico, pidaa un electricista profesional que leinstale uno.

• Para conectar el cable de alimenta-cibn de 120 voltios de CA, siempreconecte primero el cable a la caja deltomacorrientes del motor, luego en-chufe el otro extremo en el tomaco-rrientes trifilar conectado a tierra. AIdesconectar el cable de alimentacibn

el_ctrica, siempre desenchufe prime-ro el extremo en el tomacorrientes co-nectado a tierra.

• No use la funci6n de cebado si latemperatura esta sobre 50°_ (10°_).

• Optima el bot6n dos veces si la tem-peratura esta entre 50°_ (10°_) y15°iT (-10°_).

• Optima el bot6n cuatro veces si latemperatura se encuentra por debajode los 15°_: (-10°[_D).

• Optima el bot6n cinco veces si la tem-peratura se encuentra por debajo delos0°_:(-18°_).

7. (Arranque el_ctrico) Presione el botbnde arranque hasta encender el motor.No Io presione por mas de 10 segundosa la vez. Este motor de arranque el6ctri-co cuenta con protecci6n t6rmica. Si sesobrecalienta se detendra automatica-mente y puede ser arrancado nuevamen-te s61o cuando se haya enfriado a unatemperatura segura (debe esperar entre5 y 10 minutos aproximadamente).

8. (Arranque a manual) Jale rapidamentela manija del arranque manual, Nosuelte la manija inmediatamente des-pu6s de jalarla. Deje que la manija delarranque manual se enrolle lentamente.

9. Si el motor no arranca a los 5 6 6 inten-tos, lea las instrucciones sobre: Dificultadpara arrancar en la "Tabla de Iocalizaci6ny reparaci6n de averfas".

10.Una vez que el motor arranque, mueva elcontrol de estrangulacibn a la posici6n"1/2". Cuando el motor est6 trabajandode manera uniforme, mueva el controlde estrangulacibn a la posici6n "desac-tivado".

11. (Arranque el_ctrico) Desconecte el ca-ble de alimentaci6n, primero del tomaco-rrientes y luego de la caja deltomacorrientes.

12.Opere el motor a una velocidad de acele-raci6n "R.&PIDA" cuando est6 despejan-do la nieve.

Deje que el motor se caliente por varios mi-nutos antes de empezar a despejar la nieveen temperaturas inferiores a los-18°C (0°F).F-021005L

C6mohacerarrancarunmotorcalienteSi esta arrancando un motor caliente des-pu6s de haberlo apagado por un perfodocorto, deje la palanca del estrangulador en laposici6n "DESACTIVADO" y no optima elbot6n cebador. Si el motor no arranca, sigalas instrucciones sobre Arranque del motoren frfo.

ARRANQUECONGELADOSi el motor de arranque esta congelado y noenciende el motor:

1. Jale tanta cuerda del arrancador manualcomo sea posible.

2. Suelte la manija de arranque manual yd6jela enrollarse con fuerza contra elarrancador. Repita hasta que Iogre en-cender el motor.

Para ayudar a evitar que se congelen elarranque manual y los controles del motor,proceda de la manera siguiente despu6s decada trabajo de remoci6n de nieve.

1. Con el motor en marcha, jale en6rgica-mente la cuerda de arranque manual es-tirando su brazo completamente tres ocuatro veces seguidas. El jalado de lacuerda de arranque producira un sonidode repiqueteo fuerte. Esto no causa dafioal motor ni al arrancador.

2. Con el motor apagado, limpie toda la nie-ve y humedad de la cubierta del carbura-dor en el area de las palancas de control.Asimismo, mueva varias veces el controlde aceleraci6n, el control del estrangula-dory la manija de arranque manual.

_ DVERTENCIA: Nunca arran-que el motor dentro de un re-cinto cerrado o en dreas con

poca ventilacibn. Los gases de escapedel motor contienen MON6XIDO DE

CARBONO, UN GAS INODORO Y MOR-TAL. Mantenga las manos, los pies, elpelo y las ropas sueltas alejadas de laspartes en movimiento tanto del motorcomo del quitanieves.

• La temperatura del silenciador y delas piezas alrededor del silenciadorpuede exceder los 150°_ :, Evite tocarestas partes.

• NO PERMITA que nifios ni adolescen-tes operen el quitanieves ni que est_ncerca cuando est_ funcionando.

C6MO RETIRAR OBJETOSATASCADOS DE LA BARRENA

_ DVERTENCIA: No intente sa-car ningdn objeto atascado enla barrena sin tomar las precau-

ciones siguientes.

• Suelte la palanca de propulsi6n de la ba-rrena.

• Mueva la palanca de control de acelera-ci6n a la posici6n "parar".

• Retire (sin girar) la Ilave de ignici6n.

• Desconecte el cable de la bujfa.

• No coloque las manos en la barrena ocanal de descarga. Use una barra deapalancamiento para sacar el objetoatascado.

C0NSEJOSSOBREELLANZAMIENT0DENIEVE

Para un rendimiento maximo de su quita-nieves, al despejar la nieve ajuste la ve-Iocidad sobre el terreno, NUNCA hagaeste ajuste en el control de aceleraci6n.Avance lentamente en nieve profunda,congelada, o mojada. Si las ruedas pati-nan, reduzca la velocidad de avance. Elmotor esta diseSado para brindar un ren-dimiento maximo bajo aceleraci6n total ydebe ser operado en este valor de poten-cia en todo momento.

2. El lanzamiento de nieve es mas eficientesi el trabajo se realiza inmediatamentedespu6s de la nevada.

3. Para una remoci6n completa de la nieve,traslape ligeramente cada camino adop-tado previamente. En nieve profunda, su-perponga los barridos entre sf para evitarsobrecargar la maquina.

4. La nieve deberfa ser descargada en ladirecci6n del viento siempre que sea po-sible.

5. Para uso normal, ajuste los patines dealtura de manera que la barra raspadora

quede a 1/8 de pulgada sobre los pati-nes. Para superficies de nieve sumamen-te compacta, ajuste los patines de alturahacia arriba de manera que la barra ras-padora haga contacto con el suelo.

En superficies de grava o piedra tritura-da, ajuste los patines de altura a 1-1/4pulgadas por debajo de la barra raspado-ra. Consulte el parrafo "Ajuste de lospatines de altura" en la secci6n de Ser-vicio y Ajustes de este manual. Esteajuste es importante para que la maquinano recoja y lance piedras ni grava.

Despu6s de completar el trabajo de des-pejar la nieve, deje el motor en marchapor unos cuantos minutos, esto derretirala nieve y hielo acumulados alrededor delmotor.

Limpie completamente el quitanievesdespu6s de cada uso.

Quite toda acumulaci6n de hielo y nievey todo material extraSo del quitanieves, yenjuague con agua (si fuera posible) pararemover toda la sal u otros qufmicos. Se-que el quitanieves con un paso.

RECOMENDACIONES GENERALES

La garantia de este quitanieves no cubreelementos que han estado sujetos a abuso onegligencia por parte del operador. Para re-cibir el valor total de la garantia, el operadordebera dar mantenimiento al quitanieves deacuerdo a las instrucciones contenidas eneste manual.

Sera necesario efectuar algunos ajustes pe-ri6dicamente para mantener su quitanievesen buenas condiciones de funcionamiento.

DESPUES DE CADA USO

• Haga funcionar la unidad para que salgatoda la nieve acumulada en la barrena.

• Para evitar el congelamiento de labarrena o de los controles, limpie toda lanieve y el hielo del quitanieves.

1. Ponga la palanca de selecci6n de veloci-dad en primera (1).

2. Ponga el quitanieves de pie sobre el ex-tremo del alojamiento de la barrena.

NOTA: Cuando el c_rter del motor est_Ileno de aceite, asegt_rese de no dejarel quitanieves de pie sobre elalojamiento de la barrena por muchotiempo.

3. Quite el panel inferior.

4. Lubrique las cadenas con un lubricanteespecial para cadenas.

5. Cuando vaya a almacenarlo, limpie el ejehexagonal y los engranajes con aceitede motor 5W30.

NOTA: Limpie todo exceso de grasa ode aceite de la rueda de friccibn o dela placa del disco de propulsibn.

CAJA DE ENGRANAJES DE LABARRENA

La caja de engranajes de la barrena se lubri-ca en la fabrica y no requiere lubricaci6n. Sipor alguna raz6n el lubricante se escapa,haga revisar esta caja de engranajes en uncentro de servicio autorizado.

Revise el nivel de aceite en el carter del mo-tor antes de encenderlo y despu6s de cadacinco (5) horas de uso continuo. Figura 50.Agregue aceite de motor S.A.E. 5W30 a me-dida que sea necesario. Apriete latapa/varilla indicadora en forma segura cadavez que revise el nivel del aceite.

CAMBIO DE ACEITE

1. Coloque el quitanieves de manera tal queel tap6n de drenaje del aceite sea el pun-to mas bajo del motor.

2. Quite el tap6n de drenaje del aceite y latapa/varilla indicadora del nivel deaceite. Drene el aceite en un recipienteapropiado.

NOTA: El aceite fluira mejor si el motor es-ta caliente.

Una vez que haya sacado todo el aceite,coloque nuevamente el tap6n de drenajeen su lugar y apri6telo para que quedeseguro.Llene lentamente el carter del motor conaceite S.A.E. 5W30. NO LO LLENE DE-MASIADO. Consulte "Para afiadir

aceite" en la secci6n de Operaci6n.

BUJiA

Revise la bujia cada veinticinco (25) horas.Reemplacela si los electrodos estan picadoso quemados o si la porcelana esta rajada.

1. Aseg6rese de que la bujia est6 limpia.Lfmpiela raspando con mucho cuidadolos electrodos (no use chorro de arenani cepillo de alambres).

2. Revise el entrehierro de la bujia usandouna I&mina calibradora y restablezca elentrehierro a 0,030 pig. si fueranecesario. Figura 51.

3. Antes de instalar la bujia, cubra la rosca

con un poco de aceite para que sea masfacil sacarla, si fuera necesario. Aprietela bujfa a un par de apriete de 15pie-libra.

C6MO AJUSTAR LOS PATINES DEALTURA

Este quitanieves esta equipado con dos pati-nes de ajuste de altura, ubicados en el ladoexterior del alojamiento de la barrena. Vea laFigura 52.

Estos patines de ajuste de altura elevan laparte delantera del quitanieves.

Para superficies duras normales, tales comoentradas de auto o senderos pavimentadosajuste los patines de ajuste de altura de lade la siguiente manera:

1. Ponga el quitanieves en una superficienivelada.

2. Compruebe que ambos neumaticos ten-gan la misma presi6n de aire. La presi6nde aire correcta es 14 a 17 PSI. No exe-da la presi6n maxima indicada en la caralateral del neumatico.

3. Coloque los pernos de seguridad adicio-nales (que se encuentran en la bolsade partes) debajo de cada extreme de labarra raspadora junto a los patines deajuste de altura.

4. Afloje las tuercas de montaje que sujetanlos patines de ajuste de altura. Para bajarla parte delantera del quitanieves, subalos patines. Apriete las tuercas de men-taje. Vea la Figura 52.

NOTA: Para las superficies pedregosas oirregulares, suba la parte delantera del quita-nieves bajando los patines de ajuste..

_ DVERTENClA: Aseg_rese demantener la altura necesariasobre el suelo del &rea que se

va a limpiar. Si el impulsor golpea obje-tos tales como grava, piedras u otrosdesechos, los puede lanzar con sufi-ciente fuerza como para causar lesio-nes personales, daSos a la propiedad oda_os al quitanieves.

AJUSTE DE LA BARRARASPADORA

Despu6s de mucho uso, la barra raspadorametalica se gastara. La barra raspadora ylos patines, siempre deben ajustarse de ma-nera que quede un espacio de 1/8 pig. entrela barra raspadora y la acera o el area quese va a despejar.

1. Ponga el quitanieves en una superficienivelada.

2. Compruebe que ambos neumaticos tie-nen la misma presi6n de aire. La presi6ncorrecta es de 14 a 17 PSI. No excedala presi6n maxima indicada en la caralateral del neumatico.

3. Afloje las tuercas y pernos de coche quesujetan la barra raspadora al alojamientode la barrena.

4. Ajuste la barra raspadora a la posici6ncorrecta.

5. Apriete las tuercas y pernos de coche..Asegure que la barra raspadora quedeparalela con la acera o el area que se vaa despejar.

6. Para que la barra raspadora dure mastiempo, quitela y m6ntela al rev6s. Si de-be reemplazarla debido al desgaste, qui-te las tuercas y los pernos de coche einstale una barra raspadora nueva.

AJUSTE DE LAS CORREAS

Correa de propulsibn

La correa de propulsi6n tiene unapresi6n de resorte constante y no re-quiere ning6n ajuste. Si nota que em-peza a resbalar, reempl&cela. Consulte"C6mo reemplazar la correa" en la sec-ci6n de Servicio y Ajustes.

Correa de propulsibn de la barrena

Si el quitanieves no expulsa la nieve,compruebe el ajuste del cable. Si escorrecto, compruebe que la correa depropulsi6n de la barrena est6 en buenestado. Si est& estropeada o suelta,reempl&cela (consulte "C6mo desmon-tar la correa de propulsi6n de la barre-na" en esta misma secci6n del manual).

Si el quitanieves no se mueve haciaadelante, aseg6rese de que la correade propulsi6n no est6 excesivamentedesgastada o dafiada. Si Io est&,reempl&cela de la siguiente manera.

1. Desconecte el cable de la bujia.

2. Quite la correa de propulsi6n de labarrena. Consulte "C6mo desmon-

tar la correa de propulsi6n de la ba-rrena" en la secci6n de Servicio yAjustes.

3. Quite el anillo E de uno de los ex-tremos del eje de la placa oscilan-te. Quite este eje para que la placaoscilante gire hacia adelante(Figura 56).

4. Quite el resorte de propulsibn.

5. Quite la correa de propulsibn viejade la polea de propulsibn y de lapolea del motor. Instale una co-rrea de propulsibn original de f&-brica disponible en un centro deservicio Sears.

6. Instale la nueva correa de propul-sibn en la polea de propulsibn yen la polea del motor.

7. Aseg6rese de que la polea guia depropulsibn est6 alineada con lacorrea de propulsibn.

2. Pida a alguien que ponga el propul-sor de la barrena.

3. Mida la distancia entre la guia de lacorrea y la correa. La distancia de-be ser de 1/8 de pulgada (3,175mm) para la guia. (Figura 58).

4. Si necesita hacer algQn ajuste, aflo-je el perno de montaje de la guia dela correa. Ponga la guia en la posi-ci6n correcta. Apriete el perno.

5. Vuelva a instalar la cubierta de lacorrea.

6. Vuelve a conectar el cable de la bujia.

C6MO REVISAR Y AJUSTARLOS CABLES

Los cables se ajustan en la f_brica y nodeberia ser necesario ajustarlos. Si sese dan de si o est&n flojos, ajQstelos.

Siempre que cambie o ajuste lascorreas tendr& que ajustar los cables.

Para asegurarse de que est_n bienajustados, suelte el accesorio "Z" enla palanca de propulsi6n

(Figura 59).

1. Mueva la palanca de propulsi6n to-do Io que pueda hacia adelante(hasta que toque el tope de pl&sti-co). Sujete bien el cable, observela posici6n del accesorio con res-pecto al agujero en la palanca depropulsi6n.

2. El centro del accesorio "Z" debe es-

8. Saque el gancho "Z" del soportede ajuste del cable. Mueva el gan-cho "Z" hacia abajo hasta el si-guiente agujero de ajuste.

9. Jale el cable de propulsi6n por elsoporte de ajuste.

10. Ponga el manguito del cable sobreel soporte de ajuste del cable.

11. Instale el gancho "Z" en la palan-ca de propulsi6n (Figura 59).

12. Para revisar el ajuste, baje la palan-ca de propulsi6n y compruebe laIongitud de uno de los resortes depropulsi6n. Si el ajuste es el co-rrecto, la Iongitud del resorte depropulsibn es:min. 3 pig. (76 mm.)m&x. 3-3/8 pig (85 mm.)(Figura 63).

Si el quitanieves no avanza, revise lacorrea de propulsi6n por tracci6n, el ca-ble de propulsi6n o la rueda de fricci6n.Si la rueda de fricci6n est& gastada odafiada, hay que cambiarla. 11. Quite los tres sujetadores que re-tienen la rueda de friccibn en el

cubo (Figura 70).

fuera del eje hexagonal.

13. Instale la nueva rueda de friccibn

en el cubo con los sujetadores quequit6 antes.

14. Instale el eje hexagonal y los coji-netes con los cuatro pemos quequit6 antes (Figura 71).

Aseg_rese de que haya instaladocorrectamente las arandelas ensu posicibn original. Asimismo,compruebe que las dos arande-las est_n correctamente alinea-das con los brazos del impulsor.

15. Aseg_rese de que el eje hexagonalgira libremente.

16. Instale la Ilanta izquierda, el eje y elengranaje de propulsibn con lossujetadores que quit6 antes. Instalela cadena en el engranaje de pro-pulsi6n (Figura 68).

17. Revise el ajuste de la rueda de fric-ci6n. Consulte "CSmo ajustar la rue-da de fricci6n" en esta secci6n.

18. AsegQrese de que la rueda de fric-ci6n y la placa del propulsor de dis-co no tienen ni grasa ni aceite.


20. Apriete los pernos a cada lado delpanel inferior.

21. Instale la Ilanta derecha en el ejecon los sujetadores que quit5 antes.

COMOREEMPLAZARLOS PERNOSDESEGURIDADDE LABARRENALas barrenas estan sujetas al eje de la ba-rrena con pernos de seguridad especiales.Estos pernos estan diseSados para romper-se y proteger la maquina en caso de que unobjeto se atasque en el alojamiento de labarrena. No use pernos duros pues perderala protecci6n de los pernos de seguridad.

_ DVERTENCIA: Por razones deseguridad y para proteger lamdquina, use solamente pernos

de seguridad originales.Para cambiar un perno de seguridad roto,proceda de la siguiente manera. En la bolsade partes encontrara pernos de seguridadadicionales.

1. Mueva el control de aceleraci6n a la posi-ci6n de parada. Desenganche todos loscontroles.

2. Desconecte el cable de la bujia. AsegQ-rese de que todas las piezas m6viles sehayan detenido.

3. Alinee el agujero de la barrena con elagujero del eje de la barrena. Instale elnuevo pasador de seguridad y espacia-dor. Figura 72.

AJUSTEDELCARBURADORSi piensa que su carburador necesita serajustado, comuniquese con su Centro deServicio Sears mas cercano. El rendimientodel motor no debe verse afectado en altitu-des de hasta 2.100 m (7,000 pies). Paraoperar este motor en altitudes mas eleva-das, comuiquese con su Centro de ServicioSears mas cercano.

IMPORTANTE: Nunca experimente con elgobernador del motor, el cual esta configura-do de fabrica para la velocidad apropiada del

motor. El exceso de velocidad del motor porencima del ajuste de alta velocidad de fabri-ca puede ser peligroso. Si usted cree que lavelocidad alta del gobernador del motor ne-cesita ser ajustada, comuniquese con suCentro de Servicio Sears mas cercano, elcual tiene el equipo y la experiencia apropia-da para efectuar los ajustes necesarios.Para ubicar el Centro de Servicio Sears mascercano, Ilame al departamento de Serviciode Sears al 1-800-4-MY-HOME®.

_ DVERTENCIA: Nunca guar-de su quitanieves en am-bientes interiores o en un

&rea cerrada y mal ventilada. Siqueda gasolina en el tanque, los va-pores podrian alcanzar alguna lla-ma expuesta, chispa o llama pilotode una caldera, calentador deagua, secadora de ropa, cigarrillo,etc.

Para prevenir el dafio (si el quitanievesno se usa por m&s 30 dfas) prep&relocomo se indica a continuaci6n.

QUITANIEVES1. Limpie todo el quitanieves.

2. Lubrique todos los puntos de lubri-caci6n. Consulte la secci6n de Man-tenimiento.

3. AsegQrese de que todas las tuercas,pernos y tornillos est6n bien apreta-dos. Inspeccione todas las piezasm6viles visibles para detectar da-fios, roturas y desgaste. Haga losreemplazos necesarios.

4. Retoque todas las superficies oxida-das o que tengan la pintura saltada;lijelas suavemente antes de aplicarla pintura.

5. Cubra las piezas de metal expuestodel soplador del alojamiento de labarrena y del impulsor, con un anti-corrosivo, tal como un lubricante enaerosol.

NOTA: Una revisi6n o afinamientoanual hecho en un Centro de ServicioSears es una buena manera de asegu-rar que su quitanieves le brinde el m&-ximo rendimiento la siguientetemporada.MOTOR

Deber_ sacar la gasolina del tanque oprepararla para prevenir la formaci6nde dep6sitos de goma en el tanque, ill-tro, manguera y carburador durante elalmacenamiento. Adem&s, durante elalmacenamiento, la gasolina mezcladacon alcohol que contiene etanol o me-tanol (llamada a veces gasohol) atraeagua, y 6sta actQa sobre la gasolinaformando &cidos que dafian el motor.

1. Deje el motor en marcha hasta queel tanque quede vacio y el motor separe.

2. Si no quiere sacar la gasolina, use elestabilizador de combustible provis-to con la unidad, o compre estabili-zador de combustible CraftsmanNQm. 3550. Afiada el estabilizador

de combustible a cualquier cantidadde gasolina que permanezca en eltanque para minimizar los dep6sitosde goma y &cido. Si el tanque est&casi vacio, mezcle el estabilizadorcon gasolina fresca en un recipienteseparado y afiada un poco de estamezcla al tanque.

3. Siempre siga las instrucciones delenvase del estabilizador. Luego deafiadir el estabilizador, encienda elmotor y d6jelo correr por 10 minutospor Io menos para permitir que lamezcla alcance el carburador.

4. Cambie el aceite del motor

5. Lubrique el _rea del pist6n/cilindro.Para hacerlo, saque primero la bujfay coloque una gotas de aceite demotor limpio en el z6calo de la bujfa.Luego cubra el z6calo con un patiopara absorber el exceso de aceite. Acontinuaci6n, jale la manija de arran-que manual unas dos o tres vecespara hacer girar el motor. Finalmen-te, reinstale la bujfa y conecte el ca-ble.

OTRAS INDICACIONES

1. Si fuera posible, guarde su quita-nieves dentro de un recinto, cubri6n-dolo para protegerlo del polvo y lasuciedad.

2. Si debe guardar el quitanieves afue-ra, col6quelo sobre bloques para le-vantarlo del suelo.

3. Cubra el quitanieves con una cubier-ta protectora apropiada que no re-tenga humedad. No use pl&stico.

IMPORTANTE: Nunca cubra el quita-nieves mientras las &reas del motor ydel escape est6n todavia calientes.

La Agencia de Protecci6n Ambiental de losEstados Unidos ("EPA"), el Consejo de Cali-fornia para los Recursos del Aire ("CARB") ySears, Roebuck and Co. tienen el placer deexplicar Io que es la Garantia Federal y de Ca-lifornia para Sistemas de Control de Emisio-nes de su nuevo motor pequefio paravehiculos todo terreno. En California, los mo-tores pequefios para vehiculos todo terrenode modelo 1995 y modelos de afios posterio-res deben ser disefiados, construidos y equi-pados para cumplir con las estrictas normasanti contaminaci6n del Estado. En otros esta-

dos, los motores modelo 1997 y modelos deafios posteriores deben estar disefiados,construidos y equipados, al momento de suventa, para que cumplan con las disposicio-nes de la EPA acerca de motores pequefiospara vehiculos todo terreno. Sears, Roebuckand Co., garantizara el sistema para el controlde emisiones de su motor pequefio para vehi-culos todo terreno por los periodos de tiempoque se mencionan mas adelante, siempre ycuando su motor pequefio para vehiculos todoterreno no haya sufrido algQn abuso, negligen-cia, modificaci6n no aprobada o mantenimien-to indebido.

Su sistema para el control de emisiones puedeincluir partes como el carburador, el sistemade encendido y el sistema de escape. Tambi6npuede incluir el sistema de descompresi6n yotras unidades relacionadas con las emisio-nes.

Cuando surja una condici6n protegida por lagarantia, Sears, Roebuck and Co., repararasu motor pequefio para vehiculos todo terrenosin costo alguno para usted por concepto dediagn6stico, partes y mano de obra.

SISTEMA PARA EL CONTROL DEEMISIONES DEL FABRICANTE-COBERTURA DE LA GARANTiA

Los sistemas para el control de emisiones delmodelo 1995 y modelos de afios posterioresde motores pequefios para vehiculos todo te-rreno en California estan garantizados por dosafios, tal y como se menciona en la presentegarantia. En otros estados, los motores mode-Io 1997 y modelos de afios posteriores tam-bi6n estan garantizados por dos afios. Encaso de que, durante dicho periodo de la ga-rantia, cualquier pieza del motor, relacionadacon emisiones est6 defectuosa en sus mate-dales o mano de obra, Sears, Roebuck andCo., reparara o cambiara dicha pieza.

RESPONSABILIDADES DELPROPIETARIO DE LA GARANTiA

Como propietario del motor pequefio para ve-hiculos todo terreno usted es responsable deque se Ileve a cabo el mantenimiento requeri-do que se menciona en el Manual del usuario,pero Sears, Roebuck and Co., no negara lagarantia Qnicamente debido a la falta de un re-cibo o a que usted no proporcione una pruebaescrita de que se ha Ilevado a cabo el manteni-miento programado.

No obstante, usted, como propietario del mo-tor pequefio para vehiculos todo terreno, de-bera estar consciente de que Sears, Roebuckand Co., le puede negar la cobertura de la ga-rantia si su motor o alguna parte del mismo hafallado debido a abuso, negligencia, manteni-miento inadecuado o modificaciones no apro-badas.

Usted es responsable de presentar su motorpequefio para vehiculos todo terreno en el Ta-ller de Servicio Autorizado de Sears, Roebuckand Co., en cuanto surja el problema. Las re-paraciones bajo la garantia deben Ilevarse acabo dentro de un periodo de tiempo razona-ble que no exceda de 30 dias.

CAMPO DE APLICACI6N: Esta garantiadebera aplicarse a los motores pequeSos paravehiculos todo terreno modelo 1995 y mode-los de aSos posteriores en California (paraotros estados, motores modelo 1997 y mode-los de aSos posteriores). El Periodo de la Ga-rantia SCE se iniciara en la fecha de entregadel nuevo motor o equipo al comprador origi-nal y continuara durante los siguientes 24 me-ses consecutivos.

B, COBERTURA GENERAL DE LA GA-RANTIA DEL SISTEMA PARA EL CON-

TROL DE EMISIONES: Sears, Roebuck andCo. garantiza al comprador original del nuevomotor o equipo y a cada comprador subse-cuente que su motor pequeSo para vehiculostodo terreno esta:

1. DiseSado, construido y equipado para quecumpla con todas las disposiciones aplicablesadoptadas por el Consejo para los Recursosdel Aire de conformidad con su autoridad es-pecificada en los Capitulos I y 2, Parte 5, Divi-si6n 26 del C6digo de Salud y Seguridad, y

Libre de defectos en sus materiales y manode obra, Io cual cause en cualquier momentodurante el Periodo de la Garantia SCE, la fallade una parte relacionada con emisiones y queest6 bajo la garantia en cuanto a que no seaid6ntica en sus materiales a la parte descritaen la solicitud de motor del fabricante para sucertificaci6n.

C. La Garantia SCE s61o ataSe alas partes desu motor relacionadas con emisiones de la si-

guiente manera:

1. Cualquier parte relacionada con emisionesque no se especifique como de cambio, tal ycomo se requiere en el mantenimiento especi-ficado en el Manual del Propietario, debera ga-rantizarse por el Periodo de la Garantia SCE.Si dicha parte falla durante el Periodo de la Ga-rantia SCE, Sears, Roebuck and Co. la repa-rara o cambiara de acuerdo con la Subsecci6n4 que se menciona mas adelante. Cualquierparte reparada o cambiada de conformidadcon la Garantia SCE debera estar garantizadapor el resto del Periodo de la misma.

2. Cualquier parte garantizada y relacionadacon emisiones que est6 especificada s61o pa-ra inspecciones regulares conforme al Manualdel Propietario debera estar garantizada por elPeriodo de la Garantia SCE.
