Campus Bookstore

2012-2013The Campus Bookstore, operated by Barnes & Noble College Booksellers, is located in the Benson Memorial Center. You can purchase textbooks, school supplies, SCU logowear, gifts,supplies for your residence hall room, and more at the Bookstore.

BOOKSTORE SERVICES

Getting Your TextbooksThe Campus Bookstore works closely with faculty and administrators to make sure you get the best selection of new, rental, used, and digital textbooks. The University’s Textbook Rental Program allows you to rent books for a term and return them after final exams. This program provides savings of more than 50% off the cost of a new book. Purchasing used textbooks allows you to save 25% off the price of a new textbook. Then save more at the end of the term by selling them back to the Campus Bookstore. For the most features, you can download eBooks and save up to 60%. EBooks are not only eco-friendly, but are convenient and can be downloaded right from the Bookstore’s website at www.scu.edu/bookstore.

Online Ordering: Textbooks and General MerchandiseThe online experience is designed to mirror the in-store one: fast and easy. Once you have registered for your courses, we encourage you to order your books right away through eCampus. Your book list will pop up ready for purchase. Your credit card or Flex Account will not be charged until September for an order placed during the summer. Textbooks can be shipped directly to you or held for pickup at the Bookstore. The Bookstore also offers a diverse selection of SCU clothing, gifts, and supplies for purchase online.

Textbook Refund PolicyA 100% refund will be given on textbooks if the following conditions are met:

1. The receipt is presented before the return deadline.

2. Textbooks are in original, like-new condition: no writing, marks, or highlighting.

3. The return is made during the first week of classes of the academic term.

4. The return is made within 30 days of the start of classes with proof of schedule change.

Selling Your Textbooks BackAt the end of each quarter, the University’s Used Book Sell-Back Program will consistently put money back into your pocket. When the Bookstore knows that a textbook will continue to be used for a course, students get back 50% of the purchase price. The Bookstore can then resell that used book next quarter at a discounted rate. Selling a book back immediately after the final exam gives you the best chance of receiving the highest value for your book.

Tech CenterThe Campus Bookstore features a new Tech Center. You can purchase the latest in hardware, Bluetooth devices, computer accessories, and media storage to support your campus life. The Tech Center offers an inviting interactive environment that features innovative products to showcase the latest in today’s technology, creating a great destination for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Educational discounts are available on selected items.

Spirit Wear, Supplies, and GiftsAn array of SCU logo’d items, gifts, best-seller books, and other merchandise is readily available at the Bookstore. From traditional to cutting-edge, the Bookstore provides products in both school colors and a range of fashion colors that reflect the current trends. You can also purchase supplies you need to fully outfit your residence hall room and support your studies.

Special EventsThe Campus Bookstore is one of the key partners delivering special services for campus events such as New Student Orientation, Homecoming, Parent Weekend, Commencement, and athletic events to help students participate in campus festivities. In addition, the Bookstore hosts Student Appreciation Days, author book signing events, Banned Books Week, and holiday and spring clearance sales.

Mid-July – Sept. 12 – After registering for classes at Summer Orientation, submit an online order via eCampus to purchase or rent your textbooks.

Friday, Aug. 10 – If you would like to change the Resident Dining Plan you selected on your housing contract, submit a Resident Dining Plan Change Form to the Housing Office.*

Mid-August – Check eCampus for your room assignment and roommate information.

Mid-August – Sept. 14 – After viewing your assignment information, contact your new roommate and introduce yourself.

Fall

Saturday, Sept. 15 – Residence halls open for incoming freshmen move-in; Pick up your textbooks at the Bookstore.

WELCOME TO SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY!

Undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to live in University housing either on or near campus. In mid-August,

the Housing Office will notify, via eCampus, all undergraduates who have applied to live on campus for the 2012-2013 academic year of their spe-cific room assignment, roommate information, and move-in instructions. Graduate students will be notified via campus email on a rolling basis after they apply.

Freshmen and Sophomore HousingFreshmen and sophomore accommodations are fully furnished and offer a variety of amenities including cable TV, wired and wireless network access, community lounge space, laundry facilities, and vending machines in each building. For a detailed description of accommodations in each hall —including room dimensions, floor plans, and photos—visit www.scu.edu/housing.

Upperclassmen and Graduate Student Housing New juniors and seniors have multiple opportunities to live on-campus in a community of their peers. The University Villas offer 2bd/1ba and 4bd/2ba townhouses in a gated community across from Schott Stadium with large indoor and outdoor community spaces. Casa Italiana and Sobrato Hall offer the four-year RLC experience in 4 bd/2ba apartment accommodations on campus. Nobili Hall features large rooms with private baths in a beautiful, quiet building immediately behind the Mission Church. Each location includes all utilities, cable, and wireless Internet access. All are air-conditioned and fully furnished with adjacent parking.

New graduate and law students may opt to live close to campus, sharing a private University-owned residence or 2bd/1ba furnished apartment. We also offer three additional communities with private furnished and unfurnished studios, each within a block of campus. Contracts are avail-able that cater to both law and graduate student academic calendars.

Packing for SCUIn preparation for moving to campus, there are a few things you should think about before packing. Because of the size of the rooms, we encour-age you to coordinate with your new roommate to avoid duplication.

Here are a few items students should bring: (Visit our website for a detailed list)

n Linens: Mattresses in most accommodations are extra-long twin (80 inches) and will require extra-long sheets and bedding. University Villas and St. Clare mattresses require full/double sheets and bedding.

n Towels and toiletries.

n Computer and Ethernet cable.

n Smart Power Strips: Power strips must be UL approved. Extension cords are not permitted.

Small microwave ovens, TV’s, and refrigerators (up to 4 cubic feet and Energy Star rated) are allowed in the halls, however, items with an exposed heating element are not. Refrigerators are already provided in apartment and studio accommodations.

Welcome WeekendIn order for incoming freshmen to have an efficient move-in, Welcome Weekend volunteers will greet first-time residents and help take their belongings from the side-walk directly to their residence hall room. Residence halls will open for freshmen on Saturday, Sept. 15. More move-in details will be available on eCampus in August.

Get Organized FaireThe University will host a Get Organized Vendor Faire on Saturday morning of Welcome Weekend. Vendors offering laundry service, cell phone programs, bank accounts, Energy Star refrigerators and microwaves, and more will be on campus to assist you.

The Marketplace - In Benson Memorial CenterThe largest of our campus cafés, The Marketplace is a beautiful dining room featuring

exhibition-style cooking, fresh, flavorful cuisine, and an ever-changing menu with the

variety to stimulate and please any palate. Open seven days a week, The Marketplace is

open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner with convenient hours to serve you whether

you live on or off campus.

The Bronco - In Benson Memorial CenterThe Bronco is the coolest social café on campus. Open weekdays from 11 a.m. until late

night every night (except Sunday), this dining venue features personalized brick-oven

pizzas, hot appetizers, burgers, and pub-style foods. It’s the perfect place to relax with

friends and enjoy games and entertainment while satisfying your hunger.

Mission Bakery + Café - In Benson Memorial CenterMission Bakery, open seven days a week, is the place to come for gourmet coffee and

freshly baked pastries. Grab a quick coffee in the morning or a relaxing afternoon

cappuccino as well as quick bites throughout the day.

The Cellar Market - On the lower level of the Benson Memorial CenterThe Cellar Market, a campus favorite, is open seven days a week featuring a wide variety

of fresh produce, snacks, beverages, cooking supplies, ready-to-go salads, sandwiches,

and freshly baked treats.

Cadence Cyber Café - In the lobby of Lucas HallThe Cadence Cyber Café offers the University community a convenient café

on the north end of campus. Featuring an exclusive hot chocolate bar, gourmet

coffee drinks, and lunchtime specials, this café serves quick and healthy meal options

throughout the week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Santa Clara University Dining Services managed by Bon Appétit offers innovative menus showcasing fresh, locally-grown ingredients at cafés conveniently placed throughout campus. Benson Memorial Center is the campus dining hub that features several dine in and takeout locations as well as a grocery store open seven days a week. Cafés in Lucas Hall and the Learning Commons & Library also provide additional opportunities for a quick meal or snack while across campus. All venues plus catering accept cash, credit cards, the Resident Dining and Dining Plus Plans, and ACCESS Card Flex Account payments. Daily menus and upcoming events are posted at www.scu.edu/diningservices so you never have to miss your favorite dish or a fun event.

DINING PLANSAll undergraduates living on campus select a Resident Dining Plan when applying for housing. Freshmen may choose either a Preferred Plan

of 1,531 points or a Basic Plan of 1,308 points. Other students living in accommodations with kitchens may choose a Preferred or Basic Plan or may

opt for a Junior/Senior Plan of 898 points or an Apartment Plan of 193 points. Your ACCESS card is presented as payment for using these points at

any on-campus dining or market venue. The plan points are a quarterly allowance valid until the end of the quarter at which time the plan expires. Any

unspent points up to 65 may be carried over from one quarter to the next for the duration of the housing contract. However, at the end of the contract

any unspent points are forfeited. Making your purchases with a Resident Dining Plan saves you 8.25% at all campus dining venues.

If you commute to campus or run out of your Resident Dining Plan, you may opt to purchase a Dining Plus Plan. You can create this optional plan with

a deposit of any amount any time during the school year. Unspent points are available to use throughout your enrollment until graduation or withdrawal,

however the points are not refundable at any time. Purchasing with a Dining Plus Plan provides you cashless convenience and an 8.25% savings on

sales tax at all campus dining venues.

Sunstream Café - In The Learning Commons, Technology Center and LibrarySunstream Café, open Sunday – Friday, is the place to grab an energizing snack, quick

and healthy lunch, signature blended tea, or espresso drink while studying or lounging

at Santa Clara University’s popular library. The super-sized digital screen will keep you

informed of upcoming events and specials for all cafés on campus.

Express CateringCasual catering is available for students, groups, and departments willing to pick up orders

at Benson Memorial Center. It is a quick, easy, and budget-minded solution with all orders

packed with utensils to go. The menu is available online at www.scu.edu/diningservices

or orders may be placed by phone at 408-551-1792.

Better Than MailLet someone special know that you are thinking of them. With just a phone call, a custom

gift basket or sweet treat can be delivered to their door. It is easier than the post office

and more personal than a catalog. To place an order, contact the Director of Catering at

408-551-1792 or order online at www.scu.edu/diningservices.

Opening and Managing Debit PlansA Flex Account or Dining Plus Plan can be opened with a deposit of any amount, at any time, in a variety of ways. Credit card, cash, and check deposits are accepted at the ACCESS Card Office. Value Transfer Stations located in the Benson Memorial Center lobby and in the libraries accept instant cash deposits and can display plan balances. Instant credit card transfers to ACCESS plans may be made by you or your parents online at www.scu.edu/access, where you can also monitor balances and view transactions. In addition, you may authorize charges up to $500 per quarter from your Bursar Account for ACCESS card deposits. However, this request must be made in person at the ACCESS Card Office.

Lost cardsLost ACCESS cards should be suspended immediately either online at www.scu.edu/access, by calling Campus Safety at 408-554-4441, or by calling 408-551-1647 during business hours. Suspending your lost card will help protect your debit plans and prohibit any improper facility access. If you find your card after it has been suspended, you can reinstate it free of charge at the ACCESS Card Office. While the initial card is free, replacement cards are issued for a $15 fee.

The ACCESS card is the official campus ID, library card, debit card, and personalized key to hundreds of SCU facilities. Eliminating the need to carry cash, the ACCESS card is accepted at all campus dining venues, the Bookstore, ticket offices, vending machines, libraries, networked printers, laundry machines, and copiers, as well as at off-campus merchants. Each ACCESS card will be individually programmed to allow you access as appropriate to University facilities.

Getting Your CardThe ACCESS Card Office is located in Benson Memorial Center. Incoming freshmen will have their photos taken at Orientation and will receive their ACCESS cards at Welcome Weekend in Septem-ber. All other incoming students can stop by the ACCESS Card Office during office hours to have their photos taken and get their ACCESS cards. You must bring a U.S. government-issued photo ID or a passport when having your picture taken. New cards and replacement cards are also issued throughout the school year during office hours.

Resident Dining Plan TrackingThe points from your chosen Resident Dining Plan are automatically deposited onto your ACCESS card at the start of each quarter. Present your card to the cashier to make tax-free purchases at any dining venue on campus.

Debit Plan OptionsThere are two optional ACCESS debit plans that students find useful and convenient, a Flex Account and a Dining Plus Plan. See the chart below for more detailed information.

PLAN FAQs FLEX ACCOUNT DINING PLUS PLAN

Where can it be used? On campus, it is accepted at the Bookstore, vending machines, and 75+ locations for campus event ticket sales, parking permits, and printing, photocopying, and laundry services. Off campus, it can be used at dozens of restaurants and businesses which are listed at www.scu.edu/access.

All dining venues on campus, excluding Athletics Concessions.

Who is eligible for the plan? Students, faculty, and staff. Students - especially designed for commuter students or resident students who run out of Resident Dining points before the quarter ends.

Why use it? Allows for cashless convenience and savings on and off campus.

Allows students to eat at all campus venues tax-free, saving 8.25% on each food purchase.

What happens to the unspent balance at the end of each term?

The unspent balance carries over from quarter to quarter and year to year. Upon graduation or withdrawal, the unspent balance can be transferred to your Bursar Account less a $10 processing fee.
