I’m Thirsty Exodus 17:1-7

From Our Pastor. . . Church Business Meeting - This Sunday morning, February 7, immediately following our worship service, the church will be

called into a business meeting for the purpose of selecting a Minister Search Committee (MSC) due to the retirement of Rev. Parke Deans. The MSC will help the church identify

ministry support needs (e.g., music, youth, children, administration) both now and for our future; will help the church identify ministry position(s) needed to best meet current and

future needs; will identify and recommend an interim worship leader to the Deacon Council and the church; will collect names of candidates to fill needed ministry position(s); and will interview ministry candidates and make recommendation(s) to the church for action.

Per the transition plan approved by the Council of Deacons and published in The Banner two weeks ago, the Council of Deacons nominates the following persons, who have

agreed to serve on the MSC if elected by the church.

• Carol Clifton

• Jimmy McKemy

• Willie Morris

• Mike Overstreet

• Rose Payne

• Bill Bryan ex officio

In addition to these nominees from the Council of Deacons, the floor is open to church members for additional nominations. Before nominating someone, please contact that

person to ensure that she/he is willing to serve if elected. For church members who are unable to be physically present in the sanctuary for this business meeting, nominations may be made by contacting Pastor Bill anytime this week prior to the business

meeting by calling him on his cell phone, (276) 739-8571, or by emailing him at [email protected]. Nominations will also be received during the business meeting on Sunday in-person, by texting your name and the name of your nominee to

(276) 212-1288, or by calling Pastor Bill on (276) 739-8571. Nominations will be closed at the end of the business meeting. We want this process to be open for church input in spite of the current limitations on in-person attendance.

If there are no additional nominations from the floor, then the MSC nominees listed above will be elected by consensus. If there are additional nominations from the floor, then a paper ballot, containing the names of those nominated by the Council of Deacons, as listed above, plus all nominations from the floor, will be mailed to every church member the week of February 8. Ballots must be marked according to the instructions on the ballot and returned to the church office either by mail or in person no later than Thursday, February 25 at noon. The top five vote-getters will be elected as the MSC and will be announced during the worship service on Sunday, February 28.

After their election by the church, the MSC will develop a methodology to gather input from the church regarding ministry support needs (e.g., music, youth, children, administration) and position(s) needed to meet those needs. They will prayerfully seek the candidate(s) needed to lead us in fulfilling our identified ministry needs and will present them to the church for a vote at a called church meeting per our constitution and by-laws. Note that if multiple ministry positions need to be filled, the MSC will continue to serve until all needed ministry positions are filled.

Continued from Pastor Bill...

Scout Sunday and Souper Bowl of Caring – Even though we will not enjoy our Souper Chili Cookoff and Watch Party for this year’s Super Bowl, we will continue to support EFIA’s Stone Soup Food Pantry with donations of both money and food.

We have partnered with Scout Pack 20 in this food collection. The scouts will be on our northeast parking lot near the covered drive through this Saturday, February 6 from noon to 2pm to receive your drop-off donations of non-perishable food items. Scout Pack 20 will join us for Scout Sunday on February 7 as we celebrate scouting and the good work that they have done collecting food for Stone Soup.

If you would like to donate money, please mark your envelope for “Stone Soup.” If giving by check, please make it out to ABC and on the for line designate it to “Stone Soup.” If giving online, please select the “Stone Soup Food Pantry” giving option in the drop-down menu on the Giving page. We will also receive donations of non-perishable food items at the church through Sunday, February 7. There are collection boxes outside the church office door and at the back of the sanctuary. Thank you for sharing to meet the needs of families in our community.

Jonathan Buckner & Chosen Road – On Saturday, March 6 at 6:00pm we will host country-gospel group Jonathan Buckner & Chosen Road (JBCR) in a live worship concert in our sanctuary. This event is limited to 50 in-person attenders. However, it will also be live-streamed so that everyone can tune it at home via Facebook, the church website, or dial-in just as you do for worship on Sunday mornings. If you would like to attend in-person, you may reserve your free ticket(s) on Realm under Events

(Jonathan Buckner & Chosen Road) or by clicking on the registration button at the top of the church’s homepage (www.abingdonbaptist.org). You may also call Trina in the church office to reserve your ticket(s).

We will receive a love offering for JBCR during the concert and an online giving option will also be available for those joining in by live-stream. Please contact the church office with any questions.

Lebanon-to-Lebanon – Our church will lead a Virtual Vision Trip (VVT) to the country of Lebanon on Saturday, March 13 from 10-11am in the sanctuary. This adventure will allow us to learn about the needs of our Christian brothers and sisters on this middle eastern mission field as we speak to them live from Lebanon. We are also inviting other churches in the Lebanon Baptist Association and BGAV to join us. Our missionaries in Lebanon need our support to meet the growing needs of the large population of refugees living in Lebanon. Our vision trip experience will allow us to learn about and participate in meeting needs as we help share Christ in Lebanon through words and loving actions. You may participate in the vision trip either in-person at the church or as a ZOOM webinar participant.

You may register for this ZOOM event using the link provided on our church website (www.abingdonbaptist.org) or via the link below. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_GPxYkVlVTQGieN5kOImzAw Reserve the date on your calendar and be in prayer for this exciting mission adventure as we begin to build relationships with fellow Christians both in the country of Lebanon and in our Lebanon Baptist Association. We will learn, give, and reach out together in support of missions to the glory of God. Stay tuned!
