Hey Mason, have you met Dixon?Following the short Valley Meeting on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, Brother Ron Blaisdell will talk about the similarities and differences between what we would see in a Scottish Rite Valley here in the Northern Jurisdiction from those in the Southern Jurisdiction. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m.

Brother Blaisdell is a life member of both the Valley of Detroit, and the Valley of Orlando, where he lived for seven years, and where he served as an officer in the Orlando Lodge of Perfection. He holds the distinction of being a

Knight Commander of the Court of Honor, which he received from the Southern Jurisdiction in 2009.

Congratulations!Illustrious Howard H. Crumit, Jr., 33o, Past Thrice Potent Master of the Detroit Lodge of Perfection and currently President of the Valley of Detroit Board of Trustees, was elected and installed as the Right Eminent Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Michigan, at their Grand Session this past August.

  • More than 1,900 Thirty-third Degree Masons and their ladies gathered in Wash-ington, D.C., for the annual meeting of the Supreme Council Scottish Rite Masons for the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. The Supreme Council is the governing body for 150,000 Scottish Rite Masons in the 15 Northeast and Midwest states of the Northern Jurisdiction.

Among those in attendance were Grand Masters from the state Grand Lodges within the jurisdiction and representatives from 34 Scottish Rite jurisdictions around the world.

John Wm. McNaughton, Sovereign Grand Commander welcomed visitors at a special open session for both men and women on Monday morning, August 19. Inspira-tion, convenience and enjoyment was the theme of the session.

The Monday session was preceded by a vesper service on Sunday evening. The highlight of the meeting was the conferral of the Thirty-third Degree upon 157 mem-bers who were selected for dedicated ser-vice to Scottish Rite Freemasonry and for outstanding achievement in the fraternity or for significant contributions to others, reflecting credit on Freemasonry.

During the conferral of the Thirty-third Degree, Howard H. Crumit, Jr., 33o, Past Thrice Potent Master (L); and Paul N. Cross, 33o, Past Sovereign Prince, were coronetted 33o Masons,

Sovereign Grand Inspectors General and honorary members of this Supreme Council.

On June 11, 2013, the Val-ley of Detroit suffered a great loss with the death of Illustrious Brother Joel E. Clement, 33 who was also to receive his corona-tion in Washington, D.C.

On Monday evening, the Michigan Council of Deliberation hosted the Annual Michigan Dinner. At the con-clusion of the dinner, Illustrious David R. Bedwell, 33o, Deputy for Michigan, announced the names of the Brothers from Michigan elected to receive the Thirty-third Degree in August 2015 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

  • Joel Emerson Clement had a profound and lasting influence on all who were fortunate enough to have known him. His gentle spirit and humble demeanor belied a strong sense of purpose and dedication to Freemasonry and the welfare of his Brothers. Illustrious Brother Joel was highly committed to the Valley, always there to fill a need, or to lend a helping hand or a sympathetic ear. He exemplified in his life what each and every Mason should seek to become, and was and continues to be a shining example to all.

Illustrious Brother Joel began his Masonic journey on September 25th 1995, when he was initiated as an Entered Apprentice in Hiram Lodge No. 110. He was passed to the degree of Fellowcraft and raised a Master Mason on October 16th and November 11th in 1995. He was awarded the Walt Wheeler Ritualist Pin in 2009, and was State Mason of the Year in 2012.

Among his many activities in the Valley of Detroit, Illustrious Brother Joel served as Thrice Potent Master in the Detroit Lodge of Perfection and was chairman of the Membership Committee. He was elected to receive the 33rd degree in 2012, and became a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason on June 11, 2013.

Illustrious Brother Joel was also heavily involved in York Rite Freemasonry, serving as a presiding officer in Excelsior Chapter No. 25, Union Council No. 10, Ypsilanti Commandery No. 54, Southern Michigan York Rite College No. 13, and Michigan KYCH Priory No. 22. He was also active in Knight Masons and the Allied Masonic Degrees.

Brother Joel also served in the United States Army, and was active in the Boy Scouts of America.

For his dedicated service to the Valley, his many contributions to Freemasonry, and in honor of his memory, the Valley of Detroit is proud to name the 358th Reunion Class in his honor.
