CONCEPT The Numeric control machining centre is very flexible and versatile. It has a moving gantry structure and fixed worktable. The machining unit is fitted with a strong and powerful routing unit and linear tool change. A PC control unit is the best solution for modern machining centres, since it combines the calculating power and interpolation quality of the numeric control with the user-friendliness typical of the personal computer. Suitable guards protect the machining area.

STRUCTURE

The base and mobile gantry beams are designed and built so that they constantly guarantee top quality finishing even during the most demanding stages of machining. They are made of electro-welded stabilised steel using thick plate metal with stiffening ribs at the points subject to the greatest stresses. Machining conditions are simulated during the design stage using a three-dimensional CAD solid modelling system, to highlight any areas of the structure subject to deformation. All mechanical machining is performed on machining centres with a single positioning operation to guarantee precision and excellent tolerances.

MACHINING UNIT The routing unit is fitted with a power electro-spindle and automatic tool changer. The Routing unit is fixed directly to the machine's frame structure, guaranteeing maximum strength during routing, and designed to support the auxiliary machining units. A pneumatic balancing device with pressure stabiliser cancels out the unit vertical load, allowing greater agility and high precision positioning.

ELECTRO-SPINDLE The new generation electro-spindle designed and made directly by Morbidelli to guarantee maximum quality by means of the strictest controls during construction and testing. It is a high performance device, with full power available at low revs, and acceleration and deceleration times reduced to a minimum, providing optimum performance, even with heavy duty stock removal.

DUST EXTRACTION All machining units are fitted with an extractor hood which operates along the entire edge of the unit and, with the aid of flexible rebound straps, guarantees optimum shavings recovery from the machining zone. The SCM MORBIDELLI N2003618D has a CNC controlled centralised dust extraction device which automatically controls the opening and closing function of each dust extraction outlet according to which unit is being utilised.

ALUMINIUM WORK TABLE The work table is made completely of aluminium and is not affected by significant variations in humidity and temperature. The table is directly fixed to the machine base, for strength and to prevent vibrations and has integrated internal pipes for the vacuum The table is fitted with vacuum passages at a 120mm step along the entire surface and a matrix of grooves (@ 22mm spacing’s) granting an even distribution of the clamping power, which is a must when using the machine for a nesting process. Holding a single and small component is also easy and efficient thanks to the particular table design using simple rubber seals supplied with the machine.

The magnetic system for opening and closing the vacuum passages allows for an extremely quick table set up when the vacuum is only required in a portion of the table. With a dedicated tool (supplied) it is a matter of seconds to perform the set up with no need for a screw driver.

Machine is equipped with four stops, three on the rear and one on the side of the machine and has sensors on the stops to check that they have completely retracted. This can avoid collisions with the tools during the machine processing.(63.02.04)

VACUUM SYSTEM All vacuum system components (valves, pipes, etc.) are of a size designed to achieve maximum capacity and the highest possible vacuum value generated by the pump. The digital vacuum gauge is located directly on the work table and constantly monitors the actual vacuum value. The vacuum system consists of:

LUBRICATING SYSTEM Consists of a centralised system for lubricant distribution, completely controlled by the numeric control and equipped with an automatic delivery pump and devices which check that lubrication has been carried out and the minimum level in the tank. The numeric control manages lubricant delivery at programmed intervals and automatically interrupts all machine

functions if lubrication is not carried out due to any errors. The centralised system guarantees correct, prompt lubrication of all the parts to ensure they perform correctly.

AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM (63.01.27) The electrical cabinet is equipped with an air conditioning system, which controls the temperature of the electrical cabinet automatically. The system is equipped with a thermostat control.

DETECTING SYSTEM FOR TOOL LENGTH The machine is equipped with a special tool length measuring system. The system is used to check the length of any tool thus avoiding setting up time for the tools.

DETECTING SYSTEM FOR PANEL THICKNESS The machine is equipped with a special panel thickness measuring system. The Panel Measuring system, senses by contacting the work piece surface thickness. This assists the operator when machining particular work pieces with unequal thickness or when doing a sheet skim on the sacrificial board. The Panel Measuring system which is linked to the router unit, surveys of the surface and sends to the numerical control the data on which the processing parameters will be based. The system is automatic.

CONTROL UNIT The SCM MORBIDELLI N2003618D control unit is a numeric control with integrated PC with XILOG MAESTRO CAD/CAM software interface. The numeric control with PC solution combines all of the qualities of numeric controls with the user-friendliness typical of personal computers. This type of numeric controls is normally used in high precision machine tools, which require considerable calculation power and program execution speed for maximum interpolation quality. The PC makes machine controls much simpler, since it allows the use of the XILOG PLUS/MAESTRO interface, the software developed directly by the SCM Group to make programming simple and fast even for the less expert operator, allowing use of the full potential of Windows compatible personal computers, including:

LIFT TABLE AND Y ALIGNING SYSTEM (52.26.40) The loading system requires that the board is place against the bollards and the left reference point of the lift table. This ensures the board is aligned when moved onto the work table. The loading system has a heavy duty lift table for the stack of boards which will automatically index upwards so the vacuum device can move the board onto the machine table. The machine is equipped with Feltex material between the lift table and the machine work table, which are slightly raised at the lift table. MANUAL LABELLING STATION ON THE OUT-FEED The Label printing station is placed next to the work-piece unloading area. It consists of a PC monitor and a compact label printer. These devices are positioned on the mobile support and connect to the machines electrical cabinet.

SAFETY DEVICES The SCM MORBIDELLI N2003618D has protection around the perimeter of the machine and is equipped with photocells preventing any accidental contact between operator and moving parts.

EMERGENCY DIAGNOSTICS The SCM MORBIDELLI N2003618D computer software monitors all the functions of the machine and will display the emergency alarms that require immediate attentions. The alarms appear with the faults and a simple text message which shows how to correct the fault.

DIAGNOSTICS DATA The SCM MORBIDELLI N2003618D computer software monitors all the passive alarms as well as all the emergency alarms, and automatically logs these passive alarms every second of the day. The passive alarms are logged as soon as the machine is turned on in the morning. These passive alarms are stored on the machine computer in a standard day by day, week by week etc.

PRODUCTION DATA The SCM MORBIDELLI N2003618Dcomputer software records all production and work carried out for every job. The information is in a spread sheet format, showing the job to be executed, the time and the sheet size. The data can then be used with Excel or a similar program to format it as required.
