Throughout the month of Septem-ber, CIS students are cultivating the quality of open-mindedness, and IB learner profile. As Grade 12 students complete universi-ty application es-says in English class, they kept an open mind as they considered what universi-ties to apply to and how to approach the university application process. Second-ary Counselor, Ms. Katie Bangs visited Grade 12 English classes to help stu-dents begin this process. Students are encouraged to consider factors such as: academic programs, size of campus and classes, and location.

Morning Drop Off and Parking Reminder

Please remember that the first few stalls directly in front of the Ad-ministration build-ing (clearly marked during drop-off and pick up times) are reserved for drivers stay-ing in their cars. If you plan to leave your car for any reason, please park in the other parking spaces available around the campus.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Communicable Disease Reminder

At various times of the of year, schools often see an increase in

students diagnosed with communicable diseases to include head lice,

pin worms, ring worm & impetigo. Parents, please inform your child’s

teacher and the office if your child has one of these highly contagious

conditions, and keep a student at home until treatment has been start-

ed.

Additionally, remember that your child should not be at school if he

or she is experiencing any of the following symptoms: high tempera-

ture, hacking cough, discolored and/or extensive nasal discharge, eye

inflammation, diarrhea or vomiting. If a student develops any of the

above stated symptoms while at school, we will provide him or her

with a comfortable place to rest until a parent has been contacted and

pick up arrangements have been made.

It is the responsibility of the parent to inform the school if their child

has contracted a contagious condition, even if your child has already

been treated for the condition. It is important for the school to know so

to minimize the risk of spreading the infection. All information will be

kept in confidence.

Good hygiene, especially frequent hand washing, is one good way

to help reduce the spread of illnesses at school.

Congratulations to Kalie B. and Karinya L.!

They are part of a group of students from

various schools around the island in the cast

of “Hannah’s Confession”. Ten months of

preparation will find a group of amazing ac-

tors on stage telling the haunting story of

a fifteen year old girl who struggles to care

for her younger siblings while battling severe

adversity. “Hannah's Confession" will open

at the Harquail Theatre on Friday, 26th Sep-

tember and will also show Saturday, 27th of

September and Friday, 3rd October and Satur-

day, 4th October 2014. Tickets are $15 and

can be reserved and bought through ci-

ORGANIZATION IS THE KEY!

We’ve already been back to school for three weeks, and that means that

quizzes, papers, and progress reports will be coming up quickly! The key to a

bright and successful school year is organization. Now is the perfect time for you to

make sure you are starting off on the right foot by getting yourself organized. Here are

a few tips to help you manage your time, set goals, avoid confusion, and stay on an orga-

nized path to success.

GOALS: It is important to set realistic goals at the beginning of the school year, and then break

those large goals into mini goals. Write your goals down in a highly visible place where you can see

them often and stay motivated to keep working towards achieving all that you hope for.

PLAN AHEAD: Wake up early enough for school to eat breakfast and arrive at CIS well ahead of time. Pack

your homework, gym clothes, instrument, computer, and lunch the night before so it’s all ready to go for school.

Running around in a panic is no way to start the day!

AVOID CLUTTER: At the beginning of the school year your backpack and locker are clutter-free, spend the time you need

to keep it that way! Create separate folders for each class, and develop a filing system for homework, tests, handouts for

parents, etc. As papers become outdated, throw them away!

FIND AN EFFECTIVE STUDY AREA: Designate a quiet, well-lit area for studying. Don’t study in front of the television or in

an environment that you are likely to be distracted. Set rules for yourself about checking facebook, email, or playing

games while studying.

GET YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP: Get a good night of sleep to ensure that you are alert and ready to learn the following day.

USE A STUDENT PLANNER: Use your student planner or an electronic calendar. Try to use only one calendar, so you can

make sure everything is written down in one place and you won’t miss important assignments, tests, or events. When

you learn about upcoming homework or tests, write it down immediately in your planner so you don’t forget. You might

want to color code your planner to make it easier to stay organized (for example, highlight all tests in yellow, and write

all homework assignments in red).

Spelling Bee 2014!

Every year the Lions Club and RBC sponsor a national spelling bee for all schools in Cayman. Three CIS students in primary (ages 11 and under) and three students in secondary (ages 11-15) are invited to join. The preliminary dates are as follows and will be specified as we know more: Primary- 6 PM on an evening of the week of November 3-7th and Secondary- 6 PM on an evening of the week of November 11-13th. In order to prepare for this and determine who will represent us at these bees, we will be hosting our very own CIS Spelling Bee! Students who wish to be included in the national spelling bee must take part in the CIS bee.

CIS Spelling Bee will take place on campus October 3rd. Times are to be determined, but it will take place during the school day.

We are very excited to have your students be a part of this day! We do need parental permission for this event in the primary grades and for the secondary students to sign off that they are interested. Please sign and return the attached permission slip to Ms. Ashley in the library by Sept. 15th. Once we have word that your student is interested, we will provide you with a spelling book from which to study and a spelling bee schedule.

Spelling Bee 2014
