FUSD: Transition School to Work Program
What is TSW?
The FUSD TSW program is a 3rd party
cooperative agreement between a school
district and the Department of Economic
Security (DES) and the Rehabilitation
Services Administration (RSA) to provide
transition services for students who
qualify for Vocational Rehabilitation
Services. Transition School to Work
program is located at all 3 high schools in
Florence Unified School District. The goal
of the program is to help students be
career ready after graduation.
The FUSD TSW program has three options
for students enrolled. Students can
participate in one or more component.
We have a hands on simulated work
exploration component called the PAES
Lab at each high school, Job Shadowing
opportunities coordinated by a Job
Outreach Specialist, and a simulated job
site for Retail and Processing and
Production at our TSW Connect Center.
All students who graduate from the TSW
program leave with a complete portfolio
including work record, resume, and
letters of recommendation.

PAES Lab
PAES LABS- at Florence, Poston Butte, and San Tan
Foothills High Schools: The TSW PAES Labs use the PAES
(Practical Assessment Explorations System) to provide
students with a hands-on experience in a simulated
work environment at their home school. The Labs are
set up like a simulated work place. The students refer to
the teacher as "supervisor" and the students are
referred to as "employees." The students who
participate in the program understand requirements and
expectations in a work environment, understand their
strengths, have acquired work-related problem solving
skills, understand the proper behavior needed at work,
practice soft skills, have an understanding of their
competitive work rate, and know what careers interest
them. The system uses a performance based curriculum
and assessment in the following units: Business/
Marketing, Computer Technology, Construction/
Industrial, Processing/Production, and Consumer
Service. The PAES Labs also incorporate the James
Stanfield Transition Curriculum that will help the
technicians guide the students in successfully building
their portfolios to include self-awareness information,
Career Exploration, Job Readiness examples, Work
Experience Record, and Post High School Plan.
Job Shadowing
FUSD TSW allows students to obtain Job Shadowing
positions on and off campus. Through job shadowing
students will have opportunities to discover hands on
learning, gain meaningful work experience, and
decide if a job is a good fit for them. While job
shadowing, students will be provided job coaching
support including task analysis, demonstration of
tasks, redirection as needed, and communication
with employers.

TSW Connect Center
The TSW Connect Center is a site made to simulate a
functioning place of employment . The center is
modeled after a Retail/Grocery Store, Library, and
Processing and Production Center. The Center will
allow students to build up their work stamina and
soft skills while working a regular schedule. This
program will be geared to students who are seniors
or returning seniors. The Retail/Grocery Center will
be modeled after a typical retail store where
students will be responsible for the daily running of
the store including inventory, security, money
handling, and custodial work. The Processing and
Production Center will be modeled after a print shop
and office. Students will be responsible for the
intake of requests for copies, shredding, filing, mail,
and inventory. In the Assistive Technology Library
the TSW students will run the district’s assistive
technology library. Students will be responsible to
update inventory, record supply requests, deliver
items, and ensure they are returned on time.
