My Museum Tours

Plan a trip to PAMA to discover history in your community! All of our My Museum Tours are two hours in length and incorporate a museum tour and a fun, hands-on classroom activity.

Names & Places in Peel (Grade 1 to 3)

Peel has a rich history! Using clues from archival resources and museum spaces, students will discover how primary sources that are held in our collections are important guides to understanding Peel’s growth as a community. Students will have a firsthand look at how preserving stories from our collections help us to uncover the history behind the names and places in Peel.

Curriculum Links: Social Studies – Heritage & Citizenship, Canada & World Connections

Innovation & Creativity (Grade 2)

A perfect follow up for any Structures and Mechanisms, Simple Machines unit!

Explore the simple machines used by early settlers to clear the land, farm, and prosper in Peel. Students will work with museum exhibitions and in the PAMA classroom, where they will complete a set of simple machine experiments.

We recommend that your class schedule a visit near the latter half of your unit because students will need some knowledge of simple machines for this program.

Coming to Peel – Early Settlers (Grade 2 & 3)

Discover how settlers lived by exploring various aspects of pioneer life. In our Peel Gallery and Face of the Farmer Gallery students will see how settlers lived when they first came to Peel in the nineteenth century.

Students will use a letter from PAMA’s archives as a primary source document. This is a personal story of a young woman’s journey to Peel as a guide for the program. All activities will allow students to discuss and compare their own lives to those of pioneer children.

We are Here (Grade 3, 5 & Grade 7)

Students will learn about Aboriginal Culture through personal stories, music and art. Students will have the opportunity to explore our Aboriginal exhibition and learn about First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultures past and present.

Good stewardship of collections requires well maintained facilities. This summer and fall there will be several construction projects underway to improve the art gallery’s facilities. This work requires that we close our art exhibition space for several months. So, we will be relocating programs and activities to museum spaces and exploring off site locations for art installations. Behind the scenes, we will be working with our many community partners planning exciting celebrations to mark Canada’s 150th Birthday in 2017.
