If Universities use 200 as cut-off mark, only 168,002(9.68%) candidates will qualify for Post-UME, and about532,506 (30.68%) for cut-off of 180.

30.68% and 60.51% candidates qualifies for Pot-UME ifcut-off of 160 or 180 is used as condition for Post-UMEfor both Polytechnics and Colleges of Education

Page 21: School performance in utme 2013 & cut off marks

According to the Minister of Education, 520,000admission spaces are available for over 1.7millioncandidates for UTME 2013. Only (168,002) 9.68% ofthese candidates achieved at least a score of 200;therefore, the problem is not that of carrying capacityof our tertiary institutions but the amount ofunprepared and unqualified applicants.

Even if the capacity of our institutions are increased, are they all going to be occupied by unqualifiedapplicants? Clearly, urgent interventions are requiredby Parents, Governments and other concernedindividuals to increase the knowledge capacity offuture applicants starting with those presently insecondary schools.

Page 22: School performance in utme 2013 & cut off marks

Our problem is not the Carrying Capacity of our Institutions, it is the Intellectual Capacity of our Applicants!
