The P&C Association and I have worked behind the scenes for the last three years to secure this Administration Upgrade which is greatly needed by our school. It will provide first class reception and office spaces for our School Office Staff to work, new staff facilities and meeting rooms but most importantly a fully equipped and dedicated first aid room for sick and injured students. I will be meeting with officials from the Department of Education’s Infrastructure Team and the builders today (Thursday) to finalise logistics and details. The builder has informed me that he intends to commence work within 3 week with the refurbishment needing to be completed by the end of June. I will keep families informed of details as they come to hand. We are in the process of moving to our temporary office facilities in Block 5. I will be sending home a map outlining the construction site and detailed changes of the office location early next week. This construction phase will cause some disruptions to school operations but will have minimal or no impact on the students at our school. I thank you for your cooperation and understanding in advance. I am very excited about the prospect of the completed product. School Painting The external painting program of the older buildings of our school is now coming to an end. The painters will be back on a weekend or the school holidays to complete a few bits of internal painting. Induction Assembly for New SRC Representatives and House Captains The Student Representative Council (SRC) and House Captain Induction Assemblies were held last Thursday 1st March. Congratulations to all new SRC representatives and 2018 House Captains. I am sure they will represent the school with great integrity and pride. Parking

Unfortunately a few parents are still breaking the law in regardsto parking around our school. Last Friday afternoon the ownerof a small red Nissan parked across the driveway of aneighbour. The neighbour arriving home was unable to entertheir property so in frustration waited- causing traffic chaos onFlushcombe Road. I have pictures and number plates of bothcars.

Please be courteous of our neighbours and do not illegally parkin or blocking their driveways.

PBL @ Blacktown South

At Blacktown South we follow the philosophy of PositiveBehaviour for Learning. We are Safe, Respectful Learners inall environments. We encourage our students to meet theseexpectations at all times and in all settings. We encourage youto ask your children about the weekly focus to help reinforceour expectations.

This term we are focusing on being safe and students will beengaged in interactive lessons that reinforce our expectations.

During PBL lessons students have been learning aboutthe

‘Zones’ around our school. At Blacktown South we have 3 zones –

Green, Orange and Yellow.

Green Zone areas are –Bottom Oval, Top Grass, Basketball Courts and Netball

Court.

Orange Zone areas are –Ball Games, Seats/Library, COLA and Quiet Area 1

Basketball Courts and Netball Court.

Yellow Zone areas are –All stairs, footpaths and walkways we use

to move around the school

At Blacktown South we have been explicitly teaching ourstudents strategies that support positive behaviours in theplayground. We do this by making expectations clear, teachingchildren how to meet them and reinforcing children'sappropriate behaviour.

Recently during PBL lessons students were engaged in learninghow to ‘plan their play’. Students had to share their own ideasand as a class brainstorm why it is important to plan their play. They also shared the different activities they could play withtheir friends during recess and lunch time.

PBL in the classroom:

Mrs Hayes and 1H have been writing about what they havelearnt during their PBL lesson. Each student did a fantastic joband could explain why planning their play is important. Here afew samples of their great work.

The School Opal CardBusways has asked all parents who have children catching abus to remind them that they must remember to tap on at thebeginning of their trip and off again at the end of their trip. Thisis a condition of using the School Opal Card.

Data being gathered shows that not all students are doing this.If students do not tap on and off, services may be cancelleddue to the lack of recorded patronage.

Please remember it is the parent’s responsibility to maintain/update any changes of details, this will ensure you will receivenew Opal cards as requested.
