Linguistics-Language is an essential part of human life. A Society without language is inconceivable.

Language is the most appropriate and efficient medium of communication. As language exists in society, it is a subject of humanites but it deals with its sound, structure and meaning it becomes ‘Science’. Linguistics covers all

those areas that deals with the subjects of language acquisition and language teaching. It also enquires how the

change in the modern scenario affects language. The School has prodused 5 D. Litt., 99 Ph.D., & 316 M.Phil. in Linguistics till date. Total Ph. D. Student-24.

Diploma/Certificate Courses-Along with the research activites and P.G. courses, Diploma and Certificate

courses are also a part of the curriculum. Diploma in European and Asian Languages includes teaching of English

and French. The purpose of this program is to augment proficiency of students in English and foreign languages currently there is a growing demand of people with working knowledge in foreign languages in different

professions. The department has produced Diploma holders 124 in Phonetics and Indian Languages, 1965 in

English,.......in French, 141 in Russion, 47 in German, 06 in Telagu, 17 in Hindi, 32 in Urdu and 08 in Arabic till date.

English-From its establishment (1965) the Teaching Department commenced with Linguistics as the only

subject offering Post Graduate course. In the due course of time, it was realised that the department had been

lacking a vital component of academic studies i.e. English Language and Literature. There was a need and

growing demand for the integration of English in the curriculum which was fulfilled with the commencement of M.A. (English) in 1991 and M.Phil. (English) in 1994.The courses in English have achieved remarkable success.

The School has produced 23 Ph.D. And 280 M.Phil.till date. English helps in a comprehension of the modern

multicultural global world. The School continues to import its share in the development of Chhattisgarh state by paving the way for success and achievement of aspirations and goals in all fields.
