School News
URGENT As we are currently working on future classes we would appreciate being informed as soon as possible as to whether any current students will be leaving Woodville Primary at the end of this year (excluding our Year 7 graduates). You can please email or send in return slip provided on Skoolbag app.
School Lunches Department schools abide by the Right Bite Healthy Eating Policy. We discourage families from bringing in lunches from Fast Food outlets as this goes against the healthy food policy. We also would like to inform families that we will not accept Uber Eats deliveries at school. We have a canteen on site for your convenience and food can be ordered and paid for via the QKR app.
Hats A reminder: That hats are to be worn all this term as part of our SunSafe policy, which is in line with the Cancer Council guidelines. No hat no play. Students without a hat will be directed to sit under the Gym shelter or the Early Years shelter shed.
SCHOOLS ARE A NON-SMOKING ZONE We have installed new signs on our fence alerting the public that we are a non-smoking area. Please follow guidelines and do not smoke within 10 metres of the school boundary fence.

At the end of Term 3 we held our Writing Showcase. This event was outstanding and highlighted the learning taking place at Woodville. We were lucky to have special guest Phil Cummings, a talented Adelaide author, share some inspirational words while engaging some of our students in a writing workshop. The students gained a lot of insight into the world of a professional author. They were highly engaged and, in a short time frame, produced some high quality pieces of work. Thank you to all our families, friends and special guests for sharing and seeing the amazing learning our students have been involved in.
CHOIR 2018 - Wonderful success at the Festival Theatre
Our Senior Choir was involved in a wonderful evening of music, singing and performing at the Primary Music Festival at the Adelaide Festival Centre on the last day of Term 3. Our thanks go to Ira Henkel for all the work she has put into the choir over the course of the year. The choir members are Katelen, Alex, Tamika, Sharni, Jacob, Kane, Anureet, Kassie, Nada, Shelby, Stella, Victoria, Amber and Claire. The photograph you see below appeared in the evening programme:
TRASH AND TREASURE
On Saturday 27th October we held our first Trash and Treasure day. The Fundraising sub-committee of Governing
Council worked tirelessly for many hours to organise this event as did various teachers and their students. We had
many community members involved and members of the wider community coming through the school to enjoy stalls,
choir, puppets, food and rides. The “Australian Military Defence Force” interactive display was a huge success with
both adults children and staff alike. A big thank you to all the local businesses that donated various goods.
Trash & Treasure
Highlights!
Thank You for your support.
The dunking station was very popular. Luckily it was a warm day so it did come as a bit of relief! Staff and students volunteered and some parents even decided to get in on the act. Thank you to everyone. We hope to see more of the community attending school events in the future. A tiring but fun day was had by all.
Spaghetti Scientists
Room 7
In Room 7 we have been looking at the
‘Spot the Difference’ science topic.
Students have spent the last few days
creating spaghetti art and looking at
the difference between cooked and
uncooked spaghetti and the changes that
happen when it is cooked.
On Tuesday we created art with cooked
spaghetti, focusing on the way it felt,
looked and moved.
On Wednesday we created towers from
uncooked spaghetti and marshmallows
then identified the differences between
cooked and uncooked spaghetti.
INDONESIAN
LOAN WORDS Loan words are words that one language lends to another language. It must represent the same object and it might most probably sound similar but they may not be spelt the same. Some of these words are: Tomat is tomato, jip is jeep and lampu is lamp. Can you spot
which ones are the Indonesian words? Written by Summer, Kevin and Anureet from room 17 The word rambutan is a loan word and the word originated from the Malay - Indonesian language. Let’s see what some of our Woodville Primary students have to say about the fruit Source: http://topquality-produce.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Dollarphotoclub_52762072.jpg
ART THERAPY
Rambutan is a spiky, red and white fruit with a very sweet flavour looking a bit like a pineapple. Abby
Rambutan, taste like a sweet pineapple a little bit sour. It has soft spikes that you cannot eat. It is white inside and is very juicy. Its red and it smells like lollies. Taya
Rambutan taste sweet and are soft. The fruit gets its name from the Indonesian word ‘rambut’ which means hair as the fruit is hairy. Tanvi
When I tasted rambutan it was normal because in Vietnam I always eat it. On the outside it is red, inside it has a white flesh covering a seed. Rambutan is better eaten when it is plucked from its trees instead from the packaging. Sophia
