My school magazine was developed by using the challenge forms and conventions in the production of making my school magazine issue. The way I did this was by researching the codes and conventions of school magazines and extended this subject further my producing ideas for my school magazine. Although I researched the codes and conventions, I didn’t use all of the codes and conventions in my school magazine front cover but I did use a few as shown below.

•Masthead

•Features

Although I may have used some of the codes and conventions on the front cover of my school magazine, there were a few mistakes that could’ve made my front cover look better.1. Shadow -------> For the main image of my magazine, there are four school students in which behind them on the white background is their shadows. Now in this case, I should have changed the photo shoot lighting to assure that no shadows will be shown on the white background and also that the shadows wouldn’t overtake the faces of the school student in middle (back)and the school student in the far right, back.

So as you can see, my school magazine does contain most of the codes and conventions that a real/professional magazine include in their front cover.

2. Photography -------> The image on my front cover was good, but I’ll honest and say that the picture could’ve been better. My reasons for this is that everyone in the image is smiling, except for the student on the far left corner. I think I should’ve gave more direction to the students to make sure that they were all smiling happily in the image, so that the image looked perfect.

Also, with the images of the teachers (below the main image) I should have directed all of them, to a clear block coloured, in which the colour of the images would all be the same and there wouldn’t be any lighting issues in the images.

In relation of the images, I believe that the logos that are linked to the Partnerships of the school (bottom of the front cover) are cloudy/blurry. I should have gotten a larger and clearer image of the Partnership logos so that readers would be able to identify them correctly.

3. Brightness in image -------> In my contents page (on the left) there is a background image of photo shoot lighting. I believe that this image is very different and is something that you wouldn’t regularly see on a contents pagebackground. The problem with this is, that the image looks a bit too bright and it’s quite distracting.

I should have faded the image a little and lowered the brightness of the imageso that it was less distractive, to the readers eye.

My school magazine represents the social groups of students, staff, parents and the government. The reason it represents this particular social group within the school, is because of the key information sources that my school magazine provides inside it’s issue. For example, parents can check to see when their child(ren) are taking exams, when school breaks up for half-term or when revision sessions are being held in the half-term holiday.

Students in the school will love the aspect of this magazine, because there are loads of opportunities for them to win loads of expensive prizes and for them to gossip about the latest news headlines (within the school).

Also I believe that the colours on my titles which are on my front cover and contents page stand out, due to them being bright and also them being the house colours of the schoolwhich are blue, red, purple and green.

The house colours supports a massive relation to social groups, since they are the signature colours of the school.

The type of institution that would distribute my school magazine, would probably be a school that produces newspaper articles and magazines. Honestly, my school magazine would mainly be distributed by Holy Trinity Media Arts College, due to it being the main project in my school magazine and for it being my school makes it easier to distribute.

The reason for this is that my magazine is mainly targeted at those who are a part of Holy Trinity Media Arts College whether it being teachers, students, staff and governors also the information that my magazine contains would mainly be addressed to that type of a target audience.

The audience for my school magazine would be the students, teachers, parents, staff and governors of Holy Trinity Media Arts College.

1.The StudentsThe reason for my magazine being aimed at students is because there is a load of information that relateto the students. The magazine gives students opportunities and information, also including competitions. Each of these features give a massive outlet to the students to take advantage of the opportunities that come their way and also it gives them a little taste of main news headlines that are about Holy Trinity.Students are also able to check their exam dates, to be aware of what day they have their exam and how much they need tor revise.

2. The TeachersThe reason for my magazine being aimed at teachers is because are able to hear about the latest news Within the school and also they would be able to alert students about exam dates and term dates. Also Teachers could check every issue, just in case they need to verify information with their class pupils (just in case some students aren’t aware of important information, that is inside the school magazine.

3. The ParentsThe reason for my magazine being aimed at parents is because I believe that parents need to be alerted most of the time of activities, opportunities that their child(ren) are doing or taking also they can see what exams their child(ren) are doing, so that they are aware of what type of revision books or supplies are needed to ensure that their child(ren) succeed in their exams.

4. The StaffThe reason for my magazine being aimed at staff is because staff can help support the magazine by looking at the issues from time to time and taking notice of news that is going on in Holy Trinity. Staff can also check to see term dates and see the new ideas that are being put in Holy Trintiy to make the school a more sophisticated place for students.

6. The GovernorsThe reason why my magazine would be aimed at the governors is because I think that it extremely important that the governors see what activities we do in our college and how we encourage our students to advantage of once in a lifetime opportunities. Also governors will be able to find sources of information that show how fulfilling Holy Trinity is due to it’s various events, clubs, advice columns, competitions and Opportunities that Holy Trinity promotes to it’s students and staff.

There were a lot of ideas in making sure that my school magazine would attract my target audience such as: Colour Text Image

1. Colour -------> For the colour of my magazine, I wanted to use bright colours so that my magazine Would stand out, in which I made sure that it didn’t look dull or boring. For the main colour palettes I used green, red, blue and purple and the reason for this is that I wanted the colours to link to the school. So by doing this, I linked them to the Holy Trinity house colours which are green, red, blue and purple. I mainly used these colours for the Masthead, Features (on my front cover), Contents Page masthead and the vertical ‘Holy Trinity Media Arts Collegetext down the side, which I believe is a reasonable way of attracting the targetaudience.

2. Text -------> When it came to the text for my magazine I wanted to makesure that the size of the text was big enough for the readers to see/indentify theinformation that is inside the magazine issue. I also wanted to make the masthead on my front cover as big and bold as possible so that it was clear that‘Holy Trinity Media Arts College’ was the title of my magazine.

3. Image -------> With the images, I took original images of students doing their school work on the computer, a student taking a photograph, students in general from different house colours and head of houses (colour houses). These images help attract the target audience by showing that the magazine is aimed at everyone because a particular audience group don’t have to be the only people to read the magazine issue

I have learnt a lot from using the technology when producing my school magazine. The programs we Used when processing our product were Adobe InDesign CS5 and Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended.

When using Adobe Photoshop, I found it quite easy to use the program because I had used it before for other resources when doing my coursework, but I found out the uses of new tools that could make my image look professional so it was very help when discovering these new tools in Adobe Photoshop because not only did it make my image main image look better, but it gave me the ability to use it in the future.

Now when I started using Adobe InDesign, I didn’t understand anything because I had never used the program before. The tools seemed much different compared to Adobe Photoshop so I found it quite complicated at first. As I used it more often when producing my school magazine, I got the hang of putting everything on layers that my images and text were separate from each other.

When finishing the product of my magazine, I was thankful that I had learnt new skills on using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, because it made my very proud of my school magazine and I got passed the finish line even though Adobe InDesign was a challenging program.
