SCHOOL CLIMATE/SCHOOL CULTURE GOAL OR NON-ACADEMIC SUPPORT GOAL

Goal Statement for 2012-2014:

Students must learn how to be more effective students and how to handle the many challenges of life with resiliency. The school has had a leading role in the state and district’s “Helping Traumatized Children Learn” initiative with Harvard University and MA Advocates for Children. This year the school implemented Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This work has enabled the school to establish the foundation for a safe, healthy, and engaging learning environment.

Describe actions that will be taken in an effort to meet your goal:

With ELT, the school proposes to further develop this work so that it can create instruction in physical, social and emotional learning that leads to improved school connectedness and allows students to be better learners. All courses developed will have an embedded physical, social- emotional and academic focus that addresses state standards and connects to the school-wide instructional focus.

This is an opportunity for schools to articulate some of the other initiatives or areas of focus that have a positive impact on staff and/or students

in their schools. Examples include (but are not limited to):

- School Wellness Teams and the Healthy Schools Project - relate to outcomes on

- {PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) - related to SWIS data

- Second Step/Steps to Respect

- Helping Traumatized Children Learn

- Collaborative Problem Solving

- Skills for Life
