Spring Sports Meeting

There will be a meeting for High School Parents and Athletes for the spring sports of

track & field and baseball on Sunday March 1st at 3:00pm in the Black Hawk

Commons. This meeting will provide information from Coach Erickson and Coach

Burke to both parents and athletes as well as allow student athletes to pay their

participation fees, complete waiver forms and discuss dual sport participation.

Popcorn Popper

Unfortunately, things get old, wear out and need replaced. The demise of the roughly 20-year-old

popcorn popper occurred during this winter’s sport season. The popper had proven to be a key

component of our concession stand and needed replacement in a very timely manner.

I thank those who fully subsidized the replacement of the popcorn popper. Two key contributors

were Powers Auction service who donated $750 from the funds they continuously raise for the

school and Grove Monuments (Mr. Firgens) who donated $250. The remaining cost of $580 was

subsidized by the money raised from the vending machine and an $80 donation given by me.

The investment has allowed our organizations to continue to raise needed monies while providing

our patrons with the always in demand popcorn.

Hopefully this new popper will last as long. Enjoy the popcorn.

Sincerely,

Willy Chambers

Statewide ACT Testing

All juniors in the state of Wisconsin, will be taking the ACT on Tuesday, March 3. Juniors will be

dismissed from school after taking the exam at 1:00 p.m. if parents send in a note excusing their

student from school. The ACT is the standardized assessment that Wisconsin uses in its report of

student academic performance in their district report card program. We ask that all parents/guardians

encourage their students to get a solid 8 hours of sleep that night before the test, provide a

protein-rich breakfast on the day of the exam, and help encourage their student to give their best

effort on the ACT exam.

3-Year Old Screenings:

Early childhood screening helps a school district identify children who may benefit from dis-

trict and community resources available to help in their development. Early childhood is an

important time of rapid learning and growth. With the increasing recognition of the early

years as critical in a child’s development, schools are evaluating children at younger ages to

determine their strengths and concerns in important activities, allowing time for strength-

ening these concerns and helping all children be as ready for school as possible.

Early Childhood Screening is a FREE service available for all children, even if home-schooling

or private school is the family’s choice.

What is Early Childhood Screening? It is a careful, simple check of your child’s growth in all

areas – physical, developmental and emotional. Early Childhood Screenings are conducted to

ensure that all young children are well-equipped and ready for learning and that families are

aware of resources in their school and community. It helps parents see how their child is

progressing compared to other children of the same age. In general, screening provides a

way for parents to learn more about their children.

The results of the screening will be reviewed with the parent or guardian, and any follow-up

recommendations will be discussed. Screening appointments take approximately 30 minutes

and are scheduled once your child turns three.

To set up an Early Childhood Screening for your child you can contact Elisa Mathys, ECH/4K

Teacher directly at (608) 439-5444 ext. 180.

Our 2019-2020 Black Hawk Girls Basketball Little Warriors

At all home Black Hawk girls basketball games, the team

features a special participant: our Little Warrior!

Chosen at each season’s Meet the Warriors event, these

enthusiastic future basketball players get announced at a

designated contest prior to Black Hawk’s starting line-ups.

They then take the playing floor to give the players high

fives and encouragement before game play begins. Also,

they receive a T-shirt to wear during their moment in the

spotlight.

Our players and coaches appreciate the energy these

proud young supporters exhibit.

Thank you, Little Warriors, for being a part of our season!

Heart Hustle Fun Run

On Tuesday, February 18th, ten students from 4th-6th grade joined Mrs. Petitjean after

school to run four our HEARTS! Caleb Corley and Ashlynn Eckerman led the way.

It was a great effort by all. The next Fun Run will be a Shamrock Shuffle for Saint

Patrick’s Day and the start of SPRING on Tuesday, March 24th. It will take place after

school until 4:30 pm. Permission slips will be available in March.

Major William White, a 104-year-old U.S. Marine veteran who earned a Purple Heart in World

War II, celebrated Valentine’s Day this year by receiving over 70,000 cards and letters from all

over the world. There was a social media campaign that was started by one of his friends asking

for people to send greeting to honor White. The original goal was set at 100 cards, but that

number was shattered! Due to overwhelming response, White’s family had to ask for volunteers

to help open and share the cards with him. My third graders were pleased to be a small part of

this celebration.
