Criteria
o Must currently be enrolled as a high school or college/university student within the United States.

The Washington State School Retirees' Association (WSSRA) invites senior students who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
to apply for the above scholarships. These awards are given to students who wish to have a career in the “field of
education”. Their degree could be in one of these majors: teacher, counselor, speech therapist, occupational therapist, or
psychologist.
The scholarship application is available online on our web page at www.wssra.org. To access the forms click on Forms
& Files and then in the drop down menu click on Scholarship Application. The forms must be filled-out online, printed
and mailed to the WSSRA District Representative for the student’s area. The District Representative’s name and address
will be displayed once the student has entered the zip code where requested for his/her school.

Name: 2016 WSAJ Past Presidents’ Scholarship
Award: Two $2,000 Deadline: March 18, 2016
The Washington State Association for Justice (WSAJ) created the WSAJ Past Presidents’ Scholarship Fund in
1991. Two $2,000 scholarships are awarded annually.
Winners must have:
1. Demonstrated academic achievement and planned advancement toward a degree in an institution of higher
learning.
2. A documented need for financial assistance.
3. A history of achievement despite having been a victim of injury or overcoming a disability, handicap, or
similar challenge.
4. A record of commitment to helping people in need or protecting the rights of injured persons.
5. A plan or commitment to apply your education toward helping people.
6. Residency in Washington State.
7. High school seniors only.

Name: 2016 American Justice Essay and Video Scholarship
Award: Two $2,000 Deadline: March 18, 2016
As part of the Washington State Association for Justice’s (WSAJ) commitment to foster an awareness and
understanding of the important role that the civil justice system plays in our society, WSAJ sponsors an annual statewide
student video scholarship program. For 2016, WSAJ will award two, $2,000 scholarships, one to an essayist and one to a
videographer. The video scholarship winner’s piece will be posted on WSAJ’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, and may
be aired on TV.
This scholarship is available to high school seniors who are residents attending high school in Washington state.
Students need not attend a Washington college, but must start college within the next two years to receive the funds.

Name: 11th Annual Cancer Unwrapped Teen Writing Contest
Award: $1,000 Deadline: March 20, 2016
The Cancer Unwrapped Teen Writing Contest is an annual event sponsored by Gilda’s Club. This essay writing contest
is for any teen in grades 9 through 12, in Washington State, who has been touched by cancer either through a personal
diagnosis or that of a family member or friend.
Dealing with cancer can unleash a storm of emotions, questions, and unexpected discoveries. We want to hear about
your experience. We are looking for honest essays, with an authentic ability to move readers. Contest winners will
receive a $1,000 cash prize.

Name: Automotive Aftermarket Scholarship
Award: Multiple Awards Deadline: March 31, 2016
Eligibility: Thinking about an automotive aftermarket career? Good choice! Servicing or supplying parts to more than
250 million vehicles in the U.S. and Canada can be a rewarding career. An automotive scholarship can help pave the
way. Scholarships are available for students training to become automotive, heavy duty or collision repair technicians,
and to students in business, marketing, engineering, or other major courses of study.
Qualified applicants must be a graduating high school senior, or have graduated from high school or received a GED
certificate. There is no minimum GPA requirement for GAAS awards.
Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll as a full time student in a 2 or 4 year college or an ASE/NATEF
certified post secondary automotive, collision repair, or heavy duty program.

Name: Kiwanis Club of the Columbia
Award: $1,000 to a Kamiakin Student Deadline: April 2, 2016
The Kiwanis Club of the Columbia will be awarding a $1,000.00 college scholarship to a Senior at Kamiakin High
School in May of 2016. The Scholarship is based on the “well rounded” student who shows pride and dedication in
school, family and community. Applications and resumes will be due by April 2, 2016. The recipient of the scholarship
will be asked to attend a meeting of the Kiwanis Club of the Columbia and do a short presentation of the qualifications
for the award. This is a one-time scholarship.
SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
Students, to submit a resume to be mailed to Columbia Kiwanis at 1020 North Center Parkway, Ste. B, Kennewick,
Washington 99336, or emailed to [email protected], attention Chris Mertens, Youth Services Chairman, or can be
delivered in an envelope to the Career Specialist Debbie Smith at Kamiakin High School to be used for scholarship
determination. The determination of the scholarship winner will be made by May 15, 2016. The scholarship will be
awarded based upon a determination of the committee using the following criteria:
a) Employment: must be employed either during the school year or in the summer;
b) Community Service Activities (Very important): these are volunteer activities, the volunteer
activities should be broken down by organization involved with and number of hours volunteered;
c) School Extra-Curricular Activities: clubs, sports, organizations, band etc.;
d) Grades: requires at least a 3.0 GPA, copy of most recent transcript should be attached to
application.
As you can see, grades are not the most important aspect of this scholarship, it will not be “weighted” for grade point
average above 3.0, we are looking for the well rounded student.
THE RESUME IS VERY IMPORTANT, AND SHOULD ADDRESS ALL OF THE CRITERIA IN DETAIL. THE
RESUME IS THE SOLE BASIS THAT THE COMMITTEE SELECTS THE SCHOLARSHIP WINNER ON.

The PTO [Parent Teacher Organization] at Canyon View Elementary would like to honor a previous Basset Hound
student by offering a $500.00, one time scholarship, to a 2016 graduate. To qualify and apply for this scholarship you

The UW Nikkei Alumni Association is an organization offering scholarship to students of Japanese ancestry who attend
