Any schedule changes (drops/adds) must be done through the Registrar’s Office.

6www.newmanu.edu

Adds, Drops and With-drawalsAdd, drop and withdrawal dates are stated in the calendar section of this schedule. Simply attending class does not add the student to the class rolls. No credit will be given for classes in which the enrollment process has not been completed. Not attending classes does not constitute official withdrawal from the university. Failure to file drop forms and withdrawal forms with the registrar on time will result in a failing grade.

A drop form is used when the student drops out of a course during the 100% tuition refund period. Dates for 100% tuition refund for 8-week and semester courses can be found in the calendar section of this schedule. The general refund policy can be found elsewhere in the schedule of classes and also in the university catalog. Dropped courses never appear on the student’s transcript. Because the student’s financial aid may be affected by a dropped course, the student should see the Financial Aid Office before completing the drop process.

A withdrawal form is used when the student withdraws from a course after the 100% tuition refund period. The course appears on the student’s transcript with a grade of “WD.” Dates for the last day to withdraw from 8-week and semester courses can be found in the calendar section of this schedule of classes. Refund amounts differ according to when a student withdraws — refer to the schedule of classes or the catalog for the correct refund. Because the student’s financial aid may be affected by a withdrawal, the Financial Aid Office signature is required in addition to the advisor’s signature.

Refunds may be available based on the refund schedule published elsewhere in this schedule. No withdrawals, drops or adds will be accepted after the designated dates. If students enrolled previously in a FACTS payment plan, they are responsible for contacting the Student Accounts Office to modify their FACTS agreements.

Audit CoursesA student may audit a scheduled course by adding it to his/her registration as an “audit.” Records are kept of audit courses and a special tuition is charged. Transfer from credit to audit or from audit to credit registration is not permitted after the schedule change period. Audit enrollment in courses is permitted only on a space available basis.

Academic LoadA full-time undergraduate student registers for 12 or more hours a semester a part-time student for 11 or fewer. To register for more than 19 hours, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above and obtain approval of his/her advisor. If the student does not meet the GPA requirement, approval of the vice president for academic affairs is required. Credit overload forms for this purpose are available in the Office of Academic Affairs.

Graduate students are considered full-time if they are enrolled for 6 or more hours.

Independent Studies/ Conference CoursesCourses offered by independent study or by conference must fit into one of the regularly scheduled time frames for the semester (16-week or 8-week). The published add, drop and withdrawal dates for each session will also apply to independent studies and conference courses.

Graduation RateAs required by the Student Right-to-Know Act of 1990, Newman University hereby discloses that the graduation rate for degree-seeking, full-time freshmen at Newman for the six-year reporting period beginning with the 2008 fall semester is 48%.

BookstoreThe Newman University Bookstore is located in the Marketplace, just inside the main entrance to the Dugan Library and Campus Center. In addition to textbooks, the bookstore provides a wide selection of school supplies as well as New-man clothing and gift items. Scooter’s® at the Marketplace offers a full menu of coffee and espresso drinks, as well as food selections from soup, salads, sandwiches, pizza, wings and a variety of break-fast items.

Interest Free Payment PlanMonthly Tuition PaymentsNewman University is pleased to offer the FACTS monthly payment plan to enable you to more easily afford your educational expenses. FACTS is a payment management plan that provides you with a low cost op-tion for payment of tuition and other educa-tional expenses. It is not a loan program therefore, you have no debt, there are no interest or finance charges assessed and there is no credit check.

The FACTS plan provides students with flex-ibility in meeting their financial obligations to Newman University. With early registra-tion and enrollment in the FACTS plan, students have the opportunity to eliminate down payments and extend monthly pay-ments up to six months for a semester plan or 11 months for an annual plan.

How FACTS WorksUsing FACTS is simple. Complete and sign an Automatic Tuition Payment Agreement form, which is available in the Financial Aid Office, or register online at www.newmanu.edu. Click on current student, financial aid, payment plans and then the e-cashier link at the bottom of the page. You may pay your tuition and fees one of three ways:

A. Automatic Bank Payment (ACH) – ACH payments are those payments you have authorized FACTS to process directly from your financial institution. It is simply a bank-to-bank transfer of funds that you have preapproved for your expenses at Newman University. Payments may be made from either your checking or savings account. Payments are processed on the fifth of each month and will continue until the balance due the university is paid in full.

B. Credit Card Option – If you elect to pay your educational expenses by using VISA or MasterCard, your credit card will automatical-ly be charged on the fifth of each month. The payment amount is specified on the FACTS Agreement Form and will continue until the balance due the university is paid in full.

NOTE: Should an ACH or credit card pay-ment be missed, a $30 missed payment fee will automatically be assessed to your account. You will be notified by FACTS of the missed payment via mail. Your missed

payment from the fifth will be immediately rescheduled for the 20th of the same month.

FACTS charges a minimal $30 per semester or $50 annual, non-refundable enrollment fee. All FACTS fees are processed directly from the account listed on the FACTS Agree-ment Form by either automatic bank pay-ment (ACH) or charged to your credit card depending upon the payment option you have selected.

Completing the FACTS AgreementWhen completing the FACTS Agreement, you will need the following information. Be sure you have this information available as you begin the process.

• Thenameandaddressofthepersonresponsible for making the payments.

• Accountinformationfortheresponsibleperson.

(1) If paying by automatic bank payments, you will need bank name, telephone number, account number, bank rout-ing number and a voided check.

(2) If paying by credit card, you will need the credit card number and expiration date.

Students who have account balances in excess of financial aid or other guaranteed payment support, must pay their personal obligations in full at time of registration or enroll in the FACTS payment program to finalize their enrollment. Students fail-ing to finalize within 14 days of the start of regular classes will be assessed a $160 administrative fee plus interest of 1.5% per month until finalization is completed.

Tuition is refunded based on the refund schedule when a student officially drops or withdraws from the class by notifying the registrar in writing. Fees are nonrefundable when a student withdraws from a class. Not attending classes does not constitute official withdrawal from the university. A student who leaves the university without an official withdrawal or who is suspended or dismissed from the university is not entitled to a refund except as is required by federal financial aid regulations.

Late Enrollment

• A late registration fee may be added to a student’s account if registration is completed after the first day of classes.

• No reduction in tuition or fees is made in the event that a student begins classes after the start of the semester.

Past Due Balance

Recipients of Federal Student Financial Aid (student loans, Pell Grant, SEOG, TEACH) who completely withdraw from Newman during a period of enrollment in which they began attending will have their financial aid calculated based on the last date of class attendance. Newman must calculate the amount of financial aid funds students have earned at the point of withdrawal.

This calculation includes the faculty member notifying financial aid of the last date the student was in attendance.

Students must complete at least 60 percent of the enrollment period before their financial aid is not affected for the current term. The percentage of enrollment completed is the total number of calendar days in the period of enrollment for which the assistance is awarded divided into the number of calendar days completed in that period.

Newman must return the unearned portion of financial aid to the proper Federal Financial Aid Programs. The order in which the university must return financial aid is as follows:

Unsubsidized Stafford Loan Subsidized Stafford Loan Perkins Loan Parent PLUS Loan Pell Grant SEOG TEACH Grant

Any unearned financial aid returned to the student loan program/programs will reduce the student’s loan debt. Once Newman returns the unearned portion of financial aid to the proper entities, students owe the unearned portion of financial aid to the university. Students must immediately contact Student Accounts to make payment arrangements.

It is critical for students to speak with the financial aid staff regarding complete withdrawal before they decide to quit attending class.

For a copy of the Return of Title IV Funds Worksheet, please visit the Financial Aid Office.

Policy for Federal Financial Aid Recipients Who Withdraw from Newman University

Upon withdrawal from the university or from individual classes after the drop period, a student may be eligible for a refund. The amount of any refund due is subject to the official withdrawal date. The refund schedule is applied to tuition and room and board only and does not include fees and other charges. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rights with respect to their education records. Students have the right to inspect and review their education records and to request the amendment of their records if they believe they are inaccurate or misleading. Students also have the right to file complaints with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act Office concerning alleged failures by the institution to comply with the Act.

Under FERPA, information other than “directory information” cannot be given to a third party without the expressed written consent of the student with the exception of Newman University officials and faculty for expressed educational interest. The university routinely publishes material classified as “directory information” which is acceptable within the act. Newman University Directory Information includes

the following: name address (campus, home, e-mail) telephone numbers Student ID number class standing (freshman, sophomore, etc.) major field(s) of study course load status (full-time, half-time, etc.) dates of attendance degree(s) conferred (including dates) awards honors (including Dean’s List and graduation honors) past and present participation in officially recognized activities and sports membership in campus organizations physical factors (height, weight of athletes) and previous institution(s) attended. An individual, however, may direct that his or her name may not appear in the directory information by notifying the registrar in writing at the time of registration.

Questions concerning the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act may be referred to the Registrar’s Office.

FALL 2015

38www.newmanu.edu

Hours for all university services may vary during the holidays and summer.

Master of Science in EducationAll 8-week courses are taught within a flex-ible delivery model that includes face-to-face, webcam or streaming video, as well as online modules. Newman also offers fully online interactive courses. These innova-tive methods are the hallmark of Newman’s outcome based “personal touch” program.

The Master of Science Degree offered at Newman includes:

•Curriculum&InstructionwithESOL Emphasis

•Curriculum&InstructionwithReading Specialist Emphasis

•OrganizationalLeadership(teacherlicense not required)

•BuildingLeadership

We also offer licensure endorsement only programs for ESOL, Reading Specialist, and Building Leadership.

Students interested in any of these pro-grams can get more information from the Newman website, or by contacting the Di-rector of Graduate Education Programs, Dr. Gina Marx, at [email protected]

Books by MailThe Newman University Bookstore provides a service called MBS Direct for outreach students in Kansas and Colorado. Students enrolled at these outreach sites can place book orders directly with the wholesaler (MBS Textbook Exchange, Inc.) via phone, fax or Internet. The orders are conveniently delivered according to the student’s instructions. All books must be paid for at the time of purchase. Payment may be made by check, money order, credit card or student financial aid. The service also provides an opportunity for reselling the textbooks (buy back).

Required course materials:

Information on the books (title, author, costs, etc.) required for your courses can be found on Newman’s Book-store Website. Go to www.numarketplace.com and click on Course Materials
