What is a sentence? Simple sentences that can be used in day to
day life. Difference between a statement sentence (.)
and a question sentence (?) Changing statements into question sentences.
To See:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLd_gEu_jVo
Value Points:
•A sentence is an arrangement of a group of words that makes complete sense.
• A sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a full stop (.).
• A sentence always has a verb.
• A sentence which says or states something is called a statement. It always ends with a full stop mark (.).
• A sentence which asks something is called a question. It always ends with a question mark (?).
To Understand:
There are the four Types of Sentences
Declarative sentence Imperative sentence Interrogative sentence Exclamatory sentence
There are only three punctuation marks to end a sentence: Period (.)
Question mark (?)
Exclamation mark (!)
Using different types of sentences and punctuation, we can express a variety of thoughts and emotions.
A declarative sentence simply makes a statement or expresses an opinion. In other words, it makes a declaration. This kind of sentence ends with a period (.) Example:
I want to be a good writer. (makes a statement)
My friend is a good writer. (expresses an opinion)
An interrogative sentence asks a question. This type of sentence often begins with who, what, where, when, why, how, or do, and it ends with a question mark (?) Example:
When are you going to London?
Do you know my uncle’s name?
To Do:
I. Match the columns to make sentences:
II. Insert a question mark or a full stop at the end of each sentence: 1. Where are you going 2. Father has a black pen 3. Are you scared of insects 4. Is she your mother 5. We are going to play 6. There are ten digits in our numbers system. All numbers use one or more of these ten digits:
