Accelerated College Program

The Accelerated College Program (ACP) is comprised of 11th and 12th grade students who will graduate simultaneously with a high school diploma and an Associate in Arts degree. Students in the ACP do not take high school classes their last two years unless the College is unable to offer a high school requirement. They are technically dual-enrolled as they do not have a high school diploma; however, all of their classes are on campus in college courses so they are full-time college students. A generous partnership with Florida Gulf Coast University offers SCFCS graduates a two-year scholarship for tuition and fees to complete their bachelor’s degree. The University will provide books to first generation college students. The University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee also offers a scholarship that picks up tuition costs and fees not covered by other scholarships or financial aid. The university also will provide a one-time book allowance of $600 to the scholarship recipients. The USFSM program was first offered to students at the Spring 2016 commencement and took effect with the Fall 2016 semester, in which 11 SCFCS graduates enrolled and received the scholarship.

Curriculum and Graduation Requirements The academic program for grades 6 through 10 is organized on a 60-minute, 6-hour daily bell schedule. Six credits per year is the maximum course load. Differentiated instruction and a rigorous curriculum prepare students to be college-ready by 11th grade and sometimes as early as 9th or 10th grade. Qualified 9th or 10th grade students are allowed to be dual enrolled in one college course per semester.

Beginning with grade 9, all subjects, whether passed or failed, are included in the computation. A minimum of 24 high school credits and a 2.0 unweighted GPA is required for graduation. Sixty or more college credits are earned when the student completes the requirements for an Associate in Arts degree at the end of 12th grade. Dual/Concurrent Enrollment classes are weighted by one point. Grades are recorded on a student’s transcript and GPA is computed in January and May of each academic school year.

SCFCS Rank All SCFCS graduates have completed two years of college with 60 or more credits by the end of their senior year. Because all students are held to the highest academic standard, SCFCS does not rank students.
