KRIPTOGRAMMA messages are encrypted messages that were very popular during the Soviet days. But every now and then I still see reports of such messages. The messages were exchanged between vessels and the shipping company or the government agency involved like the Kosmicheskie Voyska Rossii (Russian Space Forces). Kriptogrammas were also widely used in fishery related communications.
