A Master Plan to achieve maximum vehicular mobility

in & around Dadar West & East

A Step-by-Step Execution is as follows :

Requisition

First things First. And sorry to have begun with this first. We have no choice but to start from here by sending Requisition Notices to the Four buildings in front of Ruia College (Opposite the Matunga Gymkhana Grounds) as shown in the map alongside, where the famous DP’s & Mani’s restaurants are situated. We are really sorry for the folks who reside in these buildings since the redevelopment of their buildings will have to be permanently forfeited. But we believe that it is a small price to pay and that they too will be happy to help given that so many folks will get the benefit of it all. In fact, we are really grateful that these buildings have not been redeveloped as yet, cause had they been redeveloped it would’ve been impossible to execute the plan.

Thankfully they don’t have to be demolished since the proposed NEW TILAK BRIDGE (NTB) will land down from above these four buildings.

Slicing off the Veer Kotwal GardenObserve the present day Veer Kotwal Garden along with the traffic island (with the Kavdiwala Bhajiwala on it) in front of Plaza Theatre in the 1st picture. Today, the westward bound traffic circumvents the garden.

Now observe in the 2nd picture wherein we have sliced off the garden in front of Plaza to the extent of creating 2 lanes worth of road space and also knocked out the Kavdiwala Bhajiwala along with his traffic island.

We then relocate the Kavdiwala Bhajiwala (Red Dot) on the corner of the garden and add back the 2 lanes worth of space (which is presently being used to circumvent the garden) into the garden and that too from TWO SIDES of the Garden (remember the geometrical theorem of ‘the total of 2 sides of a triangle is more than the 3rd side.’). This will make the garden bigger than what it is. And we also add the entire open space in front of Girgaon Panche Depot to the garden. In doing all this we retain a couple of lanes worth of road space for the remainder of the traffic to go towards Dadar Station. If you notice, the garden in fact becomes bigger than what it presently is.

With all this the traffic moves westwards without circumventing the garden. And also with this, the R. K. Vaidya Road bound traffic that needs to get into Dadar can get in there via the Ram Maruti (Sportfolio) Road, thus eliminating the present day eastbound traffic’s criss-crossing in front of the garden.

Start building the New Tilak Bridge

We begin the construction of the 2 Lane New Tilak Bridge from both the Padmabai Thakkar Road and the Bal Govindas Road simultaneously going eastwards thus making it a 4 Lane wide bridge.

We also start building the two ramp-ups on the Senapati Bapat Road joining themselves to the New Tilak Bridge and in the process we make the NTB a 6 Lane wide bridge.

And we also build the two ramp-downs on the Lady Jahangir Road landing at Lakhamshi Nappu Road. And from hereon the NTB once again becomes a 4 Lane bridge at landing. So if you notice the NTB is a 6 Lane wide bridge in between. We need this kind of width to allow for the intermingling of the traffic which wants to get off on the diagonally opposite ramp-down on the Lady Jahangir Road.

And the best part is, that during the construction of the New Tilak Bridge we do not affect the present day traffic at all (except may be, some section of the Senapati Bapat Road while we are building the two ramp-ups on it).

Move Signals

After when the New Tilak Bridge is built, we then go to the next stage of moving the signals at both the Sena Bhavan junction and the Raja Badhe Chowk junction away from one another i.e. we take them wide apart and thus include the Padmabai Thakker Road within the ambit of the Sena Bhavan signal and the Bal Govindas Road within the ambit of the Raja Badhe Chowk signal. Observe the Red Dots where the signals will move.

With this we get to also include the Dadasaheb Rege Road within the Sena Bhavan singal’s reach. And also with this we get to include the Bal Govindas Road along with the Shivaji Park Road No. 2 within the Raja Badhe Chowk signal’s reach.

The Final Transformation

And once when the New Tilak Bridge is ready for inauguration, then with one clean sweep, we execute the transformation.

We make the Tilak Bridge & the N. C. Kelkar Road a Westward One-Way up to Sena Bhavan.

We make the Pandurang Naik Road, Padmabai Thakkar Road, Bal Govindas Road & the New Tilak Bridge an Eastward One-Way up to Ambedkar Road.

We also make the J. K. Sawant Marg / Bal Govindas Road a One-Way up to Senapati Bapat Road.

And we also make the Dadasaheb Rege Road and the Ranade Road a One-Way from Sena Bhavan up to Savarkar Road.

Over time people will automatically learn NOT to turn right at either the Portuguese Church or at Siddhivinayak Temple to go to Dadar East. This will declutter Dadar West and East both since the traffic will move rapidly. And thus 50% of the Sena Bhavan signal’s traffic from the L. J. Road, will be forever gone.

Some other tweaks

And after all of the above is operational, we wall-up either sides of the Old Tilak Bridge and then fill-up the sloping base of the bridge as shown in the picture. With this we will be able to make the existing Old Tilak Bridge 6 Lane wide. In doing so we will permanently lose the Pedestrian Stairways but that can comfortably be replaced with Elevators for people to go up or down the bridge.

Once when the Old Tilak bridge is a 6 Lane bridge we can afford to shut down half of it. With this we are able to rebuild half of the Tilak Bridge and do the same with the other half. Just imagine we will have a nearly century old bridge replaced without the traffic getting adversely affected.

And we also permanently remove the Senapati Bapat Circle to let the traffic coming in from Sena Bhavan freely go to Ranade Road and from thereon to Savarkar Marg. Senapati Bapat himself wouldn’t have grumbled since we already have commemorated him by naming a major arterial road in his name.
