9   Firmware and Software Updates The Pro Remote and Pro Remote Base each have firmware or software that can be updated. The update process for each device is described below.

9.1   Pro Remote Base Firmware Each time the da Vinci software is updated on the Savant Host, the host will scan the devices on the network comparing the firmware version loaded on the Pro Remote Base with the firmware in the updated da Vinci software. If an updated firmware version is available, the update process will start automatically.

HELPFUL INFORMATION! The Pro Remote will disconnect from the Savant Control system during the firmware update process and automatically reconnect once the firmware in the Remote is updated.

During the firmware update, the following can be viewed to verify the firmware is downloading:

•   The LED on the bottom of the Pro Remote Base will blink green/yellow/green/yellow. See the Pro Remote Hardware Overview section above for more information.

•   The Pro Remote will disconnect from the host and display Connection to Host Lost during the firmware update to the Base.

•   If the Remote is in use during the update process, the remote will disconnect and initially display Connection to Host Lost on the touchscreen. During this time, none of the controls for the services will work.

•   During the update, the status of the update can be viewed by selecting the Pro Remote in the Controller Info page of System Monitor.

•   The current Pro Remote Base firmware versions are displayed in this page.

•   After the upgrade is complete, the Pro Remote Base will automatically reboot and reconnect itself to the host. Verify the Firmware Revision field has updated and displays the updated version.

9.2  Pro Remote Software Software downloads (updates) to the Pro Remote occur Over the Air (OTA) and are initially sent to the Savant Host. Once the update is loaded onto the Host, the Host can then release the software update to the Remote. The Host will initiate a download of the software to the Remote through the Remote Base as long as the criteria in the bulleted list below are met:

•   The Pro Remote must have at least a 60% charge on the rechargeable batteries.

•   The Pro Remote must be cradled in the Pro Remote Base.

•   There can't be any A/V services running or switched On.

Once the download process starts, the whole process can take a few hours dependent on the local wireless network. After the download to the Remote is complete, it then needs to get installed onto the Remote. The installation of the software onto the Remote will then occur automatically during the overnight hours when the remote is typically not being used.

When the installation to the Remote is complete, the updated revision of software is displayed in the About page of the Pro Remote.

TIP! It is good practice to cradle the Pro Remote in its Base overnight. The overnight hours are a good time for the Pro Remote to download and update itself without any interruptions. However, the software download to the Pro Remote can begin at any time as long as the criteria above are met.

Update Button As described above, the software update is sent to the Remote whenever it is docked in its Base and the criteria above is met. Once the software is downloaded, the remote will install the update during the overnight hours. However, if the software update is downloaded but not installed, a user can force the update at any time. In the About page of the remote, an Update button will appear whenever there is a software update downloaded but not installed. Selecting this Update button will initiate the installation of the software.

Appendix A: Network Requirements Savant requires the use of business class/commercial grade network equipment throughout the network to ensure the reliability of communication between devices. These higher quality components also allow for more accurate troubleshooting when needed.

Connect all Savant devices to the same local area network (LAN) or subnet as the host. Savant recommends not implementing any type of traffic or packet shaping in your network topology for the Savant devices as this may interfere with performance.

Network Configuration To ensure that the IP Address will not change due to a power outage, a static IP Address or DHCP reservation should be configured. Savant recommends using DHCP reservation within the router. By using this method, static IP Addresses for all devices can be managed from a single UI avoiding the need to access devices individually.

Setting DHCP reservation varies from router to router. Refer to the documentation for the router to configure DHCP reservation.

Network Changes The Pro Remote Base requires rebooting after moving to a new network, changing routers, or if the IP Address range is changed in the current router.

To Reboot the Pro Remote Base: Unplug the Pro Remote Base power supply from the wall. Wait 15 seconds and plug back into outlet.

To Reset to Factory Defaults To reset the Pro Remote Base to its factory default settings, do the following:

1.   Power On the Base by plugging in the AC/DC wall adapter. 2.   Flip the Base over. 3.   Insert a pointed object (preferably non-metallic) into the reset button pinhole. Press and hold the reset

button for about five seconds until the Status LED begins a rapid blink (red), then release. The LED will change to a solid yellow while the default settings are restored. After reboot, the Status LED will blink yellow once per second indicating the default settings are restored. The Base is now in Access Point Provisioning Mode. (For reference of LED states, refer to the Remote Base Hardware Overview section above).
