Keynote Speakers

Miss Carolene & Company

The keynote will consist of discussions by Carolene, her two daughters, and her daughter in law. Carolene will talk about the importance of using developmentally appropriate practice and how that will prevent burn out for early childhood educators. She is a retired preschool teacher who spent 26 years in the preschool classroom.

Her oldest daughter Stephanie Yoder is a registered nurse who is completing her family nurse practitioner degree. Working with emotionally disturbed preschool children has allowed her to understand more fully the medical aspect of social-emotional development of young children. Chanda Jackson, Carolene’s daughter in law is a physical therapist and will talk about the importance of fine and large motor development and how it affects cognitive development. Chelsea Villines is a registered dental hygienist. She lost her hearing at 2 years of age, and loves to teach sign language. She learned to speak, read lips, and also sign as a preschool child. She will talk about communication and how adding sign language to your classroom can be a fun adventure for the teacher and the children.

Keynote Session 8:00 - 9:30 am & 9:45 - 11:15 pm

Embracing The Whole Child-The Foundation of Excellence Miss Carolene & Company (Carolene Jackson, Stephanie Jackson Yoder, Chanda Nease Jackson, & Chelsea Jackson Villines) Excellent child care professionals are truly “embracing” children every day! We “embrace” children when we hold children physically, when we receive children enthusiastically, and when we accept them eagerly. In our society where there is more and more focus being placed on cognitive development, we will explore the importance of embracing all aspects of the child. Carolene discovered that this is true for children and their caregivers all around the word when she taught in China last fall. She will share some of those observations during the presentation. Embracing the whole child is truly the foundation of excellence. Core Competency: Child Growth & Development and
