Rotary VAR Controller Advantages:
1. Low cost, rugged wound rotor induction machine (WRIM) connects directly to the distribution bus up to 13.8kV, through step up transformer for higher system voltages.
2. Fractionally, 10 – 15%, rated power electronicsfor rotor variable frequency excitation, isolated from the MV bus through induction machine stator-to-rotor gap.
3. Large overload ( 300% minimum) capabilitycombined with flywheel energy storage capability provides for distribution bus voltage dip compensation.
