BPC for Excel: The Current View

The Current View in BPC for Excel contains the available applications

and dimensions for each specific user.

Dimension members whose data you want to display in your 

worksheets are selected via member selector windows.

The Current View is user dependent, therefore you wil l only be able toview information that your user profile allows.

Analysis & Reporting

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation comes with a set of predefined report templates and reports.

The reports can be accessed using t he Dynamic Report templates or 

from a library of report templates that are stored on the BPC server.

Reports can be modifi ed simply by changing the Current View.

The templates can be customized.

Analysis & Reporting

Saving reports

 –  Regardless of whether you create a new report using the Dynamic Reporttemplates or modify an existing report template, you can save these reports

locally for use at a later time.

Saving reports as templates

 –  If you modify an existing report template or create a custom report you can

save it locally as a template for future use.

Modifying report templates

 –  Only Application Administrators can save templates on the server.

 –  Al l users can mod ify a template and save i t l ocally fo r t heir o wn use.

Dynamic Report templates

In BPC for Excel, Dynamic Report t emplates reference the files t hat arestored on the client machine which are downloaded from t he server 

during the initial logon to the application set.

There are two Dynamic templates folders fo r each BPC application:

 –  Reports

 –  Input Schedules

Three file types that are downloaded are:

 –  TEMPLATEn.XLT

 –  Description.TXT

 –  IMAGEn.BMP

Dynamic Report templates

Dynamic Report templates that are customized must be saved on the

server.  An update to the cl ient machine must be performed for users to see

the new template.

The client update is managed by the template version number.

By default, this template version number is updated automatically.

To manually update the template version number, from the BPC

 Administration web page, select “ Manage Appli cation Sets” and logonto an application set. Then from the Action Pane, select “ Set template

version”.

Dynamic Report templates

When templates are changed on the server, the updates areautomatically downloaded to the client machines at next logon.

To manually update the client machine, from BPC for Excel, select

eTools/Client Options/Refresh dynamic t emplates.

Because Wizard templates are downloaded to client:

 –  Include commonly used reports.

 –  Try to minimize report size as much as possible.

 –  Perform report development locally, then save to Wizard folder on the

server, when completely finished, to minimize client template refreshes.

Freeze Dimension Settings

By default, the Member, and data retrieved or sent, are based on your 

current view settings. You can freeze the current view setting for any/all dimensions in the

Override Member area of the Control Panel.

Scale

In a report, you can choose how you would like to scale the valuesbeing retrieved into the report.

The EVGTS functions in the dynamic template will automatically

reference the Scale field of the Control Panel.

Utilize Expansions

Row and column expansions can be turned on or off, depending on

the required behavior of the fil e. The EVEXP functions fo r the row or columns expansions are found in

the cells that contain TRUE.

a live report or schedule. You can lock down the current view,

lock down the data and the currentview, or take the workbook completely

offline.

native Excel.

Provide a vehicle for submitting, storing, and retrieving text

commentary associated with BPC data cells or other BPC unstructureddata elements.

 Al low you to annotate the data so that other users can view t hecomments associated with a particular data point (a fully-qualified

current view).

Serve to provide comments on a series of data such as a specificreport or content lib rary document that is not current view-driven.

Submitting Comments

The Add comment link is available on any Action Pane from which thecontext of the page allows you to enter a comment.

Comments can be submitt ed in multiple interfaces:

 –  BPC Web

You can associate the comment with the active workbook or current

view, or you can define a custom current view.

To retrieve comments in BPC for Excel, you can use the EVCOM or the

Is a pre-formatted worksheet used to create a book of reports.

Book Template Fields

 A book template may contain the fol lowing fields:

BOOK: the title of your book.

CLEARBOOK: specifies whether to replace existi ng reports o r 

accumulate to existing reports.

SECTION: denotes the beginning of a section.

CLEARSECTION - allows you to replace only a section o f a book

instead of the entire book.

REPNAME: report filename, location and title.

FIXKEY: sets dimension members for all reports in the book.

SUPPRESSKEY: suppresses a dimension member if the value is equalto zero.

VARYKEYS: li sts dimensions and dimension members for which the

book of reports is being created.

SECTIONEND: denotes the end of a section of the book.

Validating the Book

Validating checks your book fil e for errors in syntax, structure, and

information provided. If there is an error in your book file, you wi ll receive a pop-up message.

:allows you to select items to display on tabs or delete.

Title: the name of the web page or file. –  You can click the title to open the file.

Document Type and SubType: document types and subtypes are usedfor sorting and filtering purposes.

can also be defined on the fly.

 Application context: you can post fi les that are application-speci fic or 

not.

Team Access: lists access rights.

 –  Each item that is posted is assigned user or team access.

Date: the date the file was posted, or the web page was added.
