Weekly Feast
Sometimes we buy things which are marked “Batteries Not Included!” A product
which must be powered in order to be used is packaged without what is needed.
That has to be purchased separately. How wonderful when we do buy something
that does include the batteries. In that case the package can be opened and we are
ready to go!
What energizes our life? Do we allow happenings of life to bring us down and im-
mobilize us? Do the things which threaten our beliefs or idea of life as we think it
ought to be cause us to wonder what’s the use of standing for what is right? Per-
haps such times bring us to our knees in urgent prayer. Things are dictated we do
not agree with or believe in and we call upon God for needed courage and
strength. However, at the same time do we forget to offer thanks? There is power
in maintaining a spirit of thanks in spite of the troubles and misfortunes of life.
Consider the example of Daniel who had been taken into Babylonian captivity.
Through the wisdom of God exhibited in his life, he was elevated to a position
over others. That position was even retained following the death of Belshazzar and
the Medes taking over the Kingdom with the reign of Darius. (Daniel 6:1-3) How-
ever, there were those who grew to despise Daniel and sought to do him in.
(Daniel 6:4-5) Knowing Daniel’s regular practice of prayer, these men persuaded
Darius to establish an ordinance against petitioning any god or man except the
King for a period of 30 days. (Daniel 6:6-9) What was Daniel to do?
We read in Daniel 6:10 (NLT) But when Daniel learned that the law had been
signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its win-
dows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always
done, giving thanks to his God.
In spite of the ordinance Daniel’s practice did not change, though I’m sure he
prayed in earnest! Still, thanks was included! Daniel continued to view God as
Sovereign over all, and to Him he would still give thanks!
Though things around us may change, let us not change our practice of regular
prayer to God -- thanks included. With a spirit of thanks to the God Who is fully
aware of all that is going on with us and around us, our mind can be elevated to the
good we still have from God and even the ways in which He can use us to further
His good. This can serve to empower us to press on in spite of ungodliness around
us. May that thanks continue to well up from within us!
HAVE A GREAT WEEK BEING ENERGIZED!

ANNOUNCEMENTS
There are many roads we travel And probably most we leave be-hind We continue to walk ahead of us New fresh roads we want to find And sometimes we wonder If we took the best road we could If we could erase them and start over We often think perhaps we would Some roads we travel often though Off and on throughout the years They get worn and sad and weary And we shed so many tears But we try to put them behind us And trudge bravely on ahead Trying very hard to not look back But find great new roads in-stead So no matter where we’ve been As our lives we continue to un-ravel We all just try to do our best With the many roads we travel!
