l Product range Ruukki SP2D W, SPB W and SPC W sandwich panels

are composed of two steel sheet facings and a structuralinsulation core of hard mineral wool featured withexcellent re resistance properties. Panel facings aremade of metal sheet galvanised on both sides. Facingparameters comply with the parameters of S280GD +Z 275 or S320GD + Z 275 steel in accordance with toPN-EN 10326:2006. Standard versions of the sheets arepolyester coated. For corrosive enviroments as well asfor the use in food industries etc., we offer sheets withPVDF or PVC coatings.

Film is added on both sides to protect panels against

mechanical damage during loading, unloading, storageand installation. The core is made of hard mineral wool. The mineral wools nominal density is of 120 kg/m3anddesign thermal conductivity ratio ldesignis of0.045 W/mK in temp. 10C.

l Features Ruukki panels with mineral wool cores are featured with

an excellent re resistance (45 to 120 minutes) and goodmechanical properties. Mineral wool with appropriatebre arrangement and reliable polyurethane adhesivejoint between the core and steel facings allow for 6 metrespans between supports.

In the sandwich panels the disadvantageous settlingof mineral wool has been avoided and its physical andchemical properties are preserved. Hydrophobic bresare resistant to moisture and biological corrosion.

Thermal bridges and vapour condensation resulting in

serious deterioration of the thermal transmittance coef-cient and posing threat of corrosion were also eliminat-ed. These may appear in walls xed at the building sitewith the use of traditional liner trays, in which two layersof mineral wool were not applied.

*** thermal transmittance value U was calculated for theldesignvalue of 0.045 W/mK and includes impact of linear thermal bridge on panel joint****applies only to light-coloured panels. External panel facings in dark colors (from standard colours range RAL 3013 and 5005), due to considerable thermal loads, higher than that of lighter colors, can be deformed. In order to minimize this phenomenon, it is advisable to apply only Ruukki SPC W panels with lengths resulting from calculations that take into consideration thermal loads.

Ruukki wall panels can be xed both vertically andhorizontally. In addition to their distinctive strengthening

ridges (3 across panel width), roof panels are distin-guished by a specially shaped micro-chamber protectingthe panel from capillary rise of water and with auxiliarygrooves for precise assembly (assembly is possible allyear long).

l Panel joint At the moment of leaving production line, Ruukki mine-

ral wool core panels are ready to install.Precise tongue-and-groove system makes installationeasier and faster.

Moreover, the installation is facilitated by double scarfjoint both from inside and outside, as well as an overlapsystem available in roof panels. Ruukki panels areinstalled on the supporting structure with the use ofself-tapping fasteners.

l Areas of application Ruukki mineral wool core panels are used for claddings

of industrial, manufacturing and sports facilities, whole-sale/retail outlets, exhibition halls, ofces, service outlets, hangars, garages, workshops, administrative and publicutility buildings as well as storage facilities, including coldstores, frozen warehouses, etc.

The panel production technology used by the manufac-turer allows for selecting appropriate organic coatingfor a specic application. For detailed information onthermal, waterproong, strength, acoustic, re safetyand anti-corrosive properties, see below in this cata-logue.

The type and panel arrangements are determined bydesigners depending on intended use of the facility, operating conditions, possible impact of internal environ-ment and weather conditions.

Considering high thermal expansion co-efcient of steelsheet, it is recommended to use light-coloured wall androof panels (it referrs to external facades).Dark-coloured external facing, due to far higher thermalload, as compared with light-coloured ones, may subjectto deformation. In order to minimise it, the manufacturerrecommends:

in case of wall panels to use single-span systems, in case of roof panels to limit maximum length,

having considered thermal loads, in case of doubt to consult manufacturers R&D

    department.

Ruukki panels are designed for use in low and mid-rangetemperatures. Constant temperature of panel surfaceshould not exceed 60C (or 90C for short intervals).

l Thermal performance The mineral wool forming the core of Ruukki SP2D W,

SPB W and SPC W panels is featured with good thermalinsulating power. Their computational thermal conduc-tivity coefcient (l

    design) is of 0.045 W/mK. U thermal

transmittance coefcient values for middle panel layersare listed in Table 1.

The range of possible applications of Ruukki SP2D W,SPB W and SPC W sandwich panels was determined asa result of thermal and humidity calculations consideringthermal bridge impact and basing on technical require-ments set out in the Order of the Minister of Infrastruc-ture on technical requirements to be met by buildings

and their locations (Journal of Law No. 75/2002, Item690). Thermal insulating power of Ruukki SP2D100W,

SP2D120W, SPB100W, SPB120W and SPB140Wwall panels makes it possible for them to be used inexternal solid walls and walls with windows/door inpublic utilities and industrial facilities heated toti> 16C.

Thermal insulating power of Ruukki SPB80W wallpanels makes it possible for them to be used in exter-nal solid walls and walls with windows/door in publicutilities and industrial facilities heated to8C < t

    i< 16C.

Thermal insulating power of Ruukki SPC190/150Wroof panels makes it possible for them to be used asroof coverings over rooms of public utilities and indus-trial facilities heated to t

    i> 16C.

Thermal insulating power of Ruukki SPC140/100Wroof panels qualify them for use as roof coverings overrooms of public utility and industrial facilities heated tobetween 8C < t

    i< 16C.

l Corrosion resistanceOwing to the application of properly selected organiccoatings, constituting the nal protective layer for (ex-ternal and/or internal) Ruukki sandwich panel facingsor non-standard facings (external and/or internal) depending on particular demands various corrosionresistance can be achieved.

Studies carried out by Durability and Corrosion Protec-tion Department of the ITB (Building Research Institute),which aimed at assessment of corrosion resistance ofthe coatings and facings listed below showed that:

Ruukki sandwich panels with standard polyester coat-

ings (25 m thick) are suitable for use in C1 to C3environments according to PN-EN ISO 12944-2:2001,

Ruukki non-standard sandwich panels with PVDFcoatings (25 m thick) are suitable for use in C1 to C3environments according to PN-EN ISO 12944-2:2001,

Ruukki non-standard sandwich panels with PVC coat-ings (120 m thick) are suitable for use in C1 to C3environments according to PN-EN ISO 12944-2:2001.

l Corrosivity categories and examples of typicalenvironments in accordance with EN ISO 12944-2

Corrosivity category C1:Interior heated building with clean atmospheres,e.g. offices, shops, schools, hotels.

Corrosivity category C2:Exterior atmospheres with low level of pollution, mostlyrural areas.

Interior unheated buildings where condensations mayoccur, e.g. depots, sports halls.

Corrosivity category C3:Exterior urban and industrial atmospheres, moderatesulfur dioxide pollution, coastal areas with low salinity.

Interior production rooms with high humidity and some

air pollution, e.g. food-processing plants, laundries, brew-eries, dairies.

l Acoustic performance Ruukki mineral wool core wall panels have the following

minimum acoustic insulation coefcients which are featu-red with:

    RW32 dB, RA130 dB, RA228 dB.

Detailed data concerning acoustic parameters are givenin Table 20. The ratios set by the ITB according to thePN-EN-ISO 717-1:1999 standard show that from aco-ustic point of view, Ruukki SP2D W, Ruukki SPB Wand Ruukki SPC W panels are suited for use:

as external cladding and partition walls/roofs ofindustrial facilities unless individual acoustic insula-tion specications for such walls/roofs are higher than

    those listed in Table 20,

for retail outlets pavilions, exhibition and other facili-

ties in accordance with requirements stated inPN-B-02151-3:1999 or if parameters are set individu-ally, depending on the particular solution applied in abuilding (location, glazing, rooms adaptation),

to erect buildings with no specied acoustic require-ments.

    load.

    ** load of the joint for detachment from the support equals 0.70 kN;

to achieve the load of 1.30 kN an additional L06 washer is to beapplied.

l Longitudinal joint of roof panels Minimal roof slope for Ruukki roof panels is > 5% for

    continuous panels without roof skylights.

Minimal roof slope for Ruukki roof panels joined length-wise or with roof skylights is > 7%.

Ruukki SPC W roof panels to be joined longitudinallymay be delivered with an internal facing notched alongits edges. For adequate joint, the notched facing alongwith the mineral wool and the polyurethane adhesive, must be removed during panel installation. The core-less area is 250 mm in length. Two types of panels canbe distinguished in terms of facing notches:

    P = Right

    L = Left

l Fasteners for panel assemblyAll Ruukki panels are fastened to the base structure by

means of self-tapping fasteners whose use ensuresfast assembly, secure fastening and attractive appear-ance of external and internal wall surfaces. Self-tappingfasteners are used for xing sandwich panels on steelstructures with wall thicknesses of up to 12 mm. Thebest fasteners for particular panel types are presented inTable 21.

The advantages of this fastening system are listed be-low:

drilling and fixing are performed within a single task this significantly reduces the time required for

proper fixing, there is no need to purchase additional tools such asdrills,

fasteners can be fixed in place with the use of singletool a screw gun,

drilling is optimal as each fastener comes with acutting piece to be used in drilling only a single holeduring fastening,

tight fastening is obtained thanks to an additionalsupport thread under fasteners head and a washerwith EPDM vulcanised layer,

very high and equivalent values of support extractionforces are achieved by extremely precise selection of

opening diameter, dimensions and thread profile.

The fasteners are made of hardened carbon steel with

an anti-corrosive protective coat. All fasteners havewashers with vulcanised EPDM, which allows for longoperation while keeping the sealant exible. Fastenersand washers for special applications are available instainless steel. Other fasteners may be used for xingpanels on other types of bases:

for fixing on wood and steel structures with walls ofover 12 mm in thickness, we recommend self-tappingfasteners with proper thread profiles,

for fixing on concrete elements, we recommend aspecial self-anchoring stud which requires no ad-ditional elements to expand in concrete; a diameter

of initial opening both in a panel and in a concreteelement corresponds to the nominal diameter of astud thus, all that is needed for fixing is a hammerand a hammer drill.

We offer galvanized fasteners and lacquered whitefasteners. On individual demand it is possible to providefasteners with heads and washers which are powder-painted by electrostatic method into a color of externalfacing of a sandwich panel.

l General panel assembly guidelines It is recommended to conduct assembly according to

detailed instructions included in the data sheet calledAssembly instruction for sandwich panels.

Before assembly, check structure for compliance withdesign specications and construction accuracy.

Prior to assembly, remove protective lm from inter-nal panel facings. Film on external facings shouldbe removed soon after assembly however, not later, than 2 months after panel purchase (Fig. 1). Peel theprotective lm off longitudinal edges of Ruukki panels(applies to metallic varnish, e.g. Silver Metalic) priorto commencement installation. Ruukki SPB W wallpanels are covered with blue lm that comes on the

internal side of the building structure.

Fig. 1. Removing protective lm from panel facing

Panels and ashings should be cut on stands coveredwith a soft material (such as felt or polystyrene) toprocect coating from damaging.

    Fig. 2. Panels cutting

It is recommended to cut panels with ne-toothed bla-des and to cut ashings with snips. Do not use anglegrinders to cut panels and ashings! (Fig. 2.)

During assembly, press panels into place with xingtool 1410 (made by Ruukki Polska) the tool helps toensure proper piece joining without risking any dama-ge.

Panels should be fastened to structures with faste-ners recommended by sandwich panel manufacturer.Fastener types and dimensions are listed in Table 21.Any other fasteners should be pre-approved by themanufacturer.

    Fig. 3. Fastener screw gun

Only special screw guns may be used for xing faste-ners. (Fig. 3)

Do not install panels in wind exceeding 9 m/s, during

precipitation or in heavy fog. At the end of each working day, remove all swarf anddirt produced during plate assembly.

    Fig. 4. Properly xed fastener.

Elevation/outer side of Ruukki panels with mineral

wool core is marked with overprint on panel side:elewacjaoutsidea.

Arrows indicate external facing of panel. Assembly inconsistent with marking will cause loss of

warranty! Ruukki Polska recommends detailed drawing solutions

included in this brochure but nal decision about par-ticular shape of design should be taken by designer.Ruukki Polska is not responsible for effects of wrong

    designing and assembly errors.
