2 Take an assessment testAssessment testing can help to satisfy a prerequisite requirement. To assist in planning your chemistry, math and English classes, participate in the assessment process, which is a two-hour session placement exam that measures current skills in reading, writing and math. This information will help you make decisions for the most appropriate classes to meet your individual educational goals. Assessments are free and offered weekly at SRVC. Check for days and times of assessments at www.dvc.edu/admissions , or stop by the Student Services Center. Apply for financial aid and learn about Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) optional

Visit the Financial Aid Office (Student Services Center), online at www.dvc.edu/financialaid , or call 925-685-1230, ext. 2290. Visit the EOPS Office (Student Services Center), online at www.dvc.edu/eops , or call 925-685-1230, ext. 2236. Limited services are offered at the San Ramon Valley Center. For the schedule at SRVC, visit www.srvc.net .

Attend orientation and advisement counseling New students for fall 2010 who have completed fewer than 12 college units are strongly encouraged to register for Counseling 095 (college orientation) during spring or summer. (see page 3 ). Classes meet once or twice for a total of six hours. Students must complete the math and English assessment tests at least seven working days before the Counseling 095 class begins.

Returning and new transfer students (with more than 12 college units) should speak with a counselor to discuss their current educational goals or plans. Request your official transcripts from high school and other colleges you’ve attended to be sent to the Admis-sions and Records Office. Official transcripts from other schools can take two to six weeks to arrive at DVC. Official transcripts must be on file at least two weeks prior to scheduling a counseling appointment.

5 Register for classesRegistration appointments are only for online or telephone registration until open/walk-in registration begins on August 2nd.

Registration appointments can be viewed on WebAdvisor from the DVC website. Contact the Admissions and Records Office if no registration date is listed. Students may use one of the many computers in the the Learning Commons or West Lobby.

Priority registration appointments are automatically assigned to continuing or currently enrolled DVC students (attended classes fall 2009, spring 2010, or summer 2010). Appointment dates and times can be found by logging to WebAdvisor.

Students without a priority registration appointment register according to the calendar of important dates.

Be sure to follow the instructions carefully. If registering online, be sure to print a copy of the schedule confirmation page as proof of enrollment.

Adding classes before instruction beginsStudents who wish to add classes before the class begins, may do so online or by telephone until the midnight before the class begins as long as there is still space available.

Adding classes after instruction begins Students who wish to add a class after instruction has started, should first check with the instruc-tor. If space is available, the instructor will give the student a unique four-digit late add code that will permit the student to register on WebAdvisor or by telephone. Late add codes expire at midnight on the deadline date to add the class. In-person registration will require the instructor’s signature or late add code on a Schedule Request form and submission by the deadline date. Assistance using WebAdvisor is available in the Learning Commons.

Proxy information Your written permission is needed anytime you authorize someone else to conduct any transactions in the Admis-sions and Records Office on your behalf. You will need to provide your proxy with the following: • Written permission, which includes your signature and detailed information on what transaction you authorize them to do. Include your proxy’s name, • Student ID number and birth date, • Your name, address and telephone number,Your proxy will need to show a valid photo ID before any transactions are completed.

AttendanceIf you miss the first class meeting or are absent for the equivalent of two weeks without approval, you may be dropped by the instructor. If you do not attend class but fail to drop the class by the refund deadline, you are still responsible for the registration fees.

Withdrawing from a classYou must officially drop classes through the online or telephone registration system or at the Admissions and Records Office. Non-attendance can result in an “F” grade and will cause you to lose your enrollment fees. If the class fee has not been paid and the class is not offi-cially dropped, the unpaid fee will become an outstanding debt on your record. It is the student’s responsibility to drop a class, not the instructor’s. If a class is dropped before 25 percent of the instruction time has elapsed, a grade will not appear on your record. If 75 percent or more of the instruction time has elapsed, you cannot withdraw and will be subject to an “F” grade.

FeesEnrollment fees • $26 per unit for California residents • $207 per unit ($181 per unit plus $26 per unit enrollment fee) for students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and are not California residents • $214 per unit ($188 per unit plus $26 per unit enrollment fee) for students who are not U.S. citizens * Enrollment fees may increase for fall.
