San Jose Christian School | March 12, 2019 Forgiving by Mr. Hucks We began this month focusing on forgiveness as part of our theme CHOOSE taken from Colossians 3:12. Ephesians 4:31-5:2 reminds us what God expects from us as His chosen. We are to get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger, brawling, and slander, along with every form of malice; we are to be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God has forgiven us; we are to be imitators of God as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant oering and sacrifice to God. In other words, our lives should spill over and reflect compassion, kindness, and love not bitterness, anger, and malice. Amy Carmichael (missionary to Japan) wrote, “For a cup, brimful of sweet water cannot spill even one drop of bitter water however suddenly jolted. If it is full of sweet water and is jolted, what will come out of the cup? Sweet water. If you gave it a harder jolt, what’s going to happen? More sweet water. If someone is filled with sweet water and someone else gives him a jolt, what will come out? Sweet water. Jolts do not turn sweet water into bitter water. That is done by something else. Jolts only bring out of the container what’s already in the container. If you’re filled with sweetness and light, and you get jolted, you’re going to spill sweetness and light.” May it be so among God’s children that our lives, no matter how much they are jolted, would spill out compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and forgiveness. • Tiger TracksMIDDLE SCHOOL HAPPENINGS!Our middle school students enjoy a variety of experiences throughout the year as part of our mission to provide exceptional teaching, live in Christian community, and engage culture for Jesus Christ. Last week….

    • 13 students from 7th and 8th grade traveled to Washington D.C. with Mrs. Nibbelink. Students experienced the people and places who have shaped and continue to shape our nation. Our group prayed for our nation in front of the White House, a particularly moving opportunity.

    • 60 students from 5th to 8th grade enjoyed Elective-Week. Classes included robotics, sewing, pie-making, outdoor adventures, games, and the sacredness of the table. SJCS Faculty led these events, incorporating a love for God, desire to learn, and commitment to serve.

    ◦ SEWING: Sewing a laundry bag ended up being a lesson in theology, machining, and even teamwork. We learned about how God has a perfect timing just like a sewing machine requires perfect timing. The bags students made were a product of a team supporting and guiding each other to produce a lovely and functional laundry bag.

    ◦ GAMES: What strategy did you find in this game? What is the probability of a win? How do you spend your free time with others? What are some of the benefits of playing games with other people? These are a few of the questions we explored in our games group last week.

    ◦ CULTIVATING THE SACREDNESS OF THE TABLE: In Cultivating the Sacredness of the Table, the girls planned a dinner party to host in their homes. They planned the menu, created decoration, made jars full of good questions, wrote prayers and toasts, and prepared meals to share with their families.

    ◦ ROBOTICS: In the robotics elective, students learned to persevere and troubleshoot, while learning from their mistakes.

    ◦ LIFE OUTDOORS: "Life Outdoors" was an elective for those who love to seek adventure. The students were active learners who learned with persistence and focus about various wilderness know-hows such as hiking, camping, and map orientation. The students were able to think interdependently and show cooperation as they adventured together. They enjoyed times of hiking to reflect upon God and the beauty of His creation.

    • 20 Grade 6 students and parents gathered in the auditorium Friday afternoon for a new event called VI Connect. There was laughter and connection around the theme “Speaking Your Language.”
