Sample / Catalog Request instructions 1.) From the www.jst.com home page, choose Sample/Catalog request from the sidebar menu selections. 2a.) On the next page, select the country to where the samples or catalogs are to be shipped. The web site is controlled out of our USA headquarters in Waukegan, Illinois and the trading area is North and South America. The default country is USA. If the samples are to ship to a country other than the USA, please choose the country from the scroll list provided. Otherwise select the button and proceed to the next page. 2b.) As mentioned is step 2a, the default county is USA. When the scroll list option is chosen, the countries within the USA headquarters trading area will be listed above the USA option. All other countries will be listed below USA in alphabetical order. Requests submitted for shipment to countries outside of USA’s trading area will be forwarded to one of our worldwide affiliates. A list of affiliates can be found on the web site under Worldwide locations from the sidebar menu. 3.) After the country is chosen and the button is selected, the next page is the shipping and address information. The fields labeled with blue text are required fields. The user will not be able to proceed to the next steps without providing the required information. 1

Sample / Catalog Request instructions

1.) From the www.jst.com home page, choose Sample/Catalog request from the sidebar menu selections. 2a.) On the next page, select the country to where the samples or catalogs are to be shipped. 4.) Choose an identity from the scroll list provided. The following is a guideline for choosing your identity:

a. JST Customer: select this identity if you are a visiting customer requesting samples (whether or not you are a direct customer with JST) or you are a rep, distributor or JST employee entering a request for a customer to ship directly to the customer and not to your home base location.

b. Rep: select this identity if you are a contracted sales agent / representative of JST and the samples are to be shipped to you directly for hand delivery or forwarding to the customer.

c. Distributor: select this identity if you are an authorized JST distributor and the samples are to be shipped to you directly for hand delivery or forwarding to the customer.

d. JST Employee: select this identity if you are employed by JST in any of our worldwide locations and the samples are to be shipped to you directly for hand delivery or forwarding to the customer or you are to pick up the requested information from our sample room located in our factory in Waukegan, Illinois.

NOTE: JST reps and distributors will be required to complete end user information pertaining to the request. These agents of should follow the following steps when prompted during the completion of the request: a. Today's Date: Select the current date from the

drop down boxes provided. b. Originator: The person or organization

completing the request must enter their name. c. End Customer Name: Enter the company

name of the end customer for whom the samples are being requested.

d. Customer Contact: Enter the primary contact of the end customer for whom the samples are being requested.

e. Application: Enter the application for which the samples are being requested. f. Potential: Enter the estimate annual usage of the samples being requested.

NOTE: JST Employee are required to reference a customer name for the samples being requested when prompted.

5.) After choosing an identity, complete the shipping address information. The address information that is entered in these fields will be the shipping address used by the sample room personnel. Please do not enter a drop-ship address in the comment section. We will not ship to any drop-ship location other than what is listed in the required fields. If you are a rep, distributor or an employee and you want the samples shipped directly to the customer, enter the shipping address information in the required fields. The following is a guideline for completing the ship to information section. Since the majority of requests submitted through our web site originate from the USA, the information below will be based upon a request shipping to a location in the USA as an example:

a. Name: enter the complete name (first and last) of the person to whom the samples are to be addressed upon shipment. If you would rather enter a reference number (such as a PO number) please do so.

b. Title: (not required) enter the business title of the person listed in the Name field above. c. Company: enter the name of the company / business to where the samples are to be addressed upon

shipment. d. Address: enter the street address to where the samples are to be shipped. If a Post Office Box is entered,

the samples will automatically be shipped via US Mail regardless if a premium carrier (such as Federal Express or UPS) is provided. Such carriers typically do not deliver to PO Box locations. This field allows many characters thus additional information such as building, floor and department numbers can be added here as well.

e. City: enter only the name of the city to where the samples are to shipped. Do not enter state, territory or province information here.

f. State: (if defaulted to the country USA) choose the state or territory from the selections provided. This is an alphabetical list starting with Alaska. If the samples are to be shipped to a state other than Alaska, choose the appropriate state. If the state does not match the city and / or Zip / Postal code provided, the request will be rejected and you will be asked to resubmit the request with the correct address information.

g. Country: defaulted from the selection chosen from the previous page. If the incorrect country was selected from the previous page, use the back feature on your browser and choose the correct country from the scroll list provided from the previous page. You will have to re-enter the shipping information from steps 4 through 5f.

h. Zip Code: enter the five (5) digit zip code to where the samples are to be shipped. The character field is sufficient for entering a hyphenated nine (9) digit zip code if it is known but only the first 5 digits are required.

i. Telephone: enter a valid telephone number. The phone number does not have to be that of the recipient of the samples. This is required for contact information in the event questions arise regarding the request submitted.

j. Fax: (not required) enter a valid fax number if so desired. k. E-mail: enter only one (1) valid email address. Once the request is submitted an acknowledgment of the

request will be emailed to the address entered in this field. After the request has been processed and shipped (typically within 24 hour upon receipt of the request) the disposition of the request will be sent

via email to the address entered in this field as well. The address listed will receive these emails from an email address labeled [email protected]. General emails are not to be sent directly to this email address.

l. Alternate E-mail: (not required) if another you wish to have another recipient copied on the emails transmitted regarding the request submitted, you may enter one (1) additional email address here.

m. Date required: (not required) select the month, day and year the request submitted is required to be received at the ship to location. Although a required date may be selected here, JST does not guarantee delivery of the request by the date specified.

n. Comments: (not required) use this field to enter any general comments. Please do not list the part numbers required; there will be another section of the Sample/Catalog request feature for listing your requirements. This field is to be used for general or additional shipping information only. If a drop-ship location is listed here, the request will be rejected and you will be asked to re-enter the request entering the correct shipping information in the required fields.

6.) After entering the ship to information, scroll down the page where you can order a quantity of our catalogs, a Crimp Inspection Chart (details of this are found on the main home page of the web site) and enter Ship Method information. If a premium carrier (such as FedEx or UPS) is not provided the requested items will ship US Mail by default (in other words, if the Ship Method field is left blank, the samples will be shipped via US Mail). If a premium carrier is provided, please be certain to provide the service level (example: FedEx P1, or UPS Red) as well as your account number for billing purposes for the freight costs. If a service level is not provided, the requested items will be sent via ground transportation. If the account number provide is to be billed to a third party, please provide the third party contact information in the comment section above. 7.) At the bottom of the page are four buttons to choose from. The following will explain the purpose of each selection:

a. Select the button if you are only ordering catalogs and / or the crimp inspection charts.

b. Select the button if you would like to order product samples.

c. Select the button if you are only requesting technical documents such as drawings or product specifications for specific JST part numbers.

d. Selecting the button will erase all the data entered in the previous fields and will give you a blank page to re-enter the shipping information.

8.) When the button is selected, you will be taken to a summary

page to review the information requested. From there you may select the button to transmit your

request or the button to cancel the request and take you back to the page to select a country as described in steps 2a and 2b. 9.) When the button is selected, you will be directed to a page to list the part number and choose the documents required by selecting “Yes” from the drop-down boxes.

Select the button at the bottom to be directed to a summary page to review the information requested. From there you may select the

button to transmit your request or the

button to cancel the request and take you back to the page to select a country as described in steps 2a and 2b. 10.) When the button is selected, the next page will ask if the samples being requested are to be terminated or non-terminated. Terminated samples are provided with wire crimped to contacts or inserted into an insulation displacement connector receptacle. Terminated samples have a minimum two (2) week lead time for completion of the samples. THE FOLLOWING WILL DESCRIBE ORDERING TERMINATED SAMPLES

11.) When the button is selected from step 10 you will be given an option to choose a Cable Assembly or

Terminated Sample. Select the button if the samples terminated are insulation displacement connectors or complete crimp style connectors that include the contact and housing as part of the assembly. Select the

button if contacts only are to be crimped but not insterted into housings.

12.) If the button is selected, from the next page determine if the assembly is a double ended or single ended assembly.

If it is a double ended cable assembly, select the button and follow the following steps:

a. Sample Quantity Requested: Enter the total number required for the sample assembly being requested.

b. PIN-OUT: Select the pin orientation of the assembly. If the assembly orientation is from position 1 (one) of the first connector to position 1 (one) of the second connector, select 1 to 1. If the assembly orientation is from position 1 (one) of the first connector to the last position of the second connector, select the second option and enter the number of the last position on the second connector. For Example: On a 5 (five) position assembly, enter the number 5 in the available field for the second option.

c. Dimensions are in: Inches / Millimeters: Select whether the dimensions provided are in inches or millimeters.

d. Type A Connector 1 P/N: Refer to the small schematic shown on the page. Enter the part number of the housing or insulation displacement connector for one side of the assembly.

e. Type A Contact 1 P/N: If this portion of the assembly is a crimp style connector, enter the applicable contact part number. Leave this field blank if the Type A Connector 1 part number is insulation displacement.

f. Wire Size - AWG# =: Enter the wire gauge required for the assembly. The AWG must be in

the applicable range for the contacts or insulation displacement connectors being requested.

g. Type A Connector 2 P/N: Enter the part number of the housing or insulation displacement connector on the other side of the assembly.

h. Type A Contact 2 P/N: If this portion of the assembly is a crimp style connector, enter the applicable contact part number. Leave this field blank if the Type A Connector 2 part number is insulation displacement.

For the following, enter the dimensions on one field or the other. Not both.

i. Dimension L1: Enter the length of the assembly between the connectors requested. This dimension will not include the connectors requested.

OR j. Dimension L2: Enter the overall length of the assembly. This dimension includes the sizes of the

connectors being requested. k. Comments: If required, enter any comments

pertaining to the assembly being requested. l. Near the bottom of the page you may request

general specifications to be emailed to you in relation to the requested items.

If it is a single ended cable assembly, select the button and follow the following steps:

a. Sample Quantity Requested: Enter the total number required for the sample assembly being requested.

b. Dimensions are in: Inches / Millimeters: Select whether the dimensions provided are in inches or millimeters.

c. Type B Connector 1 P/N: Refer to the small schematic shown on the page. Enter the part number of the housing or insulation displacement connector.

d. Type B Contact 1 P/N: If the Type B connector 1 part number is a crimp style connector, enter the applicable contact part number. Leave this

field blank if the Type B Connector 1 part number is insulation displacement.

e. Wire Size - AWG# =: Enter the wire gauge required for the assembly. The AWG must be in the applicable range for the contact or insulation displacement connector being requested.

f. Dimension L1: Enter the length of the assembly from the back of the connector to the end of the wire leads. This dimension will not include the connector requested.

OR g. Dimension L2: Enter the overall length of the

assembly. This dimension includes the size of the connector being requested.

h. Dimension L3: If the wire leads are to be stripped, enter the dimension of the strip length.

i. Comments: If required, enter any comments pertaining to the assembly being requested.

j. Near the bottom of the page you may request general specifications to be emailed to you in relation to the requested items.

13.) From step 11, if the button is selected, from the next page determine if the assembly is a double ended or single ended assembly. The Terminated Sample feature applies to crimp style contacts only. For insulation displacement connectors or crimp style connector assemblies, please use the Cable Assembly function described in step 11.

If it is a double ended terminated sample, select the button and follow the following steps:

a. Sample Quantity Requested: Enter the total number required for the terminated samples being requested.

b. Dimensions are in: Inches / Millimeters: Select whether the dimensions provided are in inches or millimeters.

c. Type A Contact 1 P/N: Refer to the small schematic shown on the page. Enter the part number of the contact for one side of the terminated sample.

d. Wire Size - AWG# =: Enter the wire gauge required for the terminated sample. The AWG must be in the applicable range for the contacts being requested.

e. Type A Contact 2 P/N: Enter the part number of the contact for the other side of the terminated sample.

f. Dimension L1: Enter the length of the terminated sample between the contacts requested. This dimension will not include the contacts requested.

OR g. Dimension L2: Enter the overall length of the

terminated sample. This dimension includes the sizes of the contacts being requested.

h. Comments: If required, enter any comments pertaining to the terminated sample being requested.

j. Near the bottom of the page you may request general specifications to be emailed to you in relation to the requested items.

If it is a single ended terminated sample, select the button and follow the following steps:

a. Sample Quantity Requested: Enter the total number required for the terminated samples being requested.

b. Dimensions are in: Inches / Millimeters: Select whether the dimensions provided are in inches or millimeters.

c. Type B Contact 1 P/N: Refer to the small schematic shown on the page. Enter the part number of the contact for the terminated sample.

d. Wire Size - AWG# =: Enter the wire gauge required for the terminated sample. The AWG must be in the applicable range for the contact being requested.

e. Dimension L1: Enter the length of the terminated sample from the back of the contact requested to the end of the wire lead. This

dimension will not include the contact requested.

OR f. Dimension L2: Enter the overall length of the

terminated sample. This dimension includes the size of the contact being requested.

g. Dimension L3: If the wire leads are to be stripped, enter the dimension of the strip length.

h. Comments: If required, enter any comments pertaining to the terminated sample being requested.

i. Near the bottom of the page you may request general specifications to be emailed to you in relation to the requested items.

THE FOLLOWING WILL DESCRIBE ORDERING NON-TERMINATED SAMPLES

14.) When the button is selected from step 10 the next page will show 10 (ten) line item fields. Enter 1 (one) valid JST part number per field, the quantity for that line item part number and choose yes or no if technical documents are required for that line item entered. If yes or no is not selected for the technical documents, no documents will be provided. You are not limited to only ten non-terminated line items as you have an option to order additional samples at the bottom of the form.

14.) If the request is complete, Select the button at the bottom to be directed to a

summary page to review the information requested. From there you may select the button to

transmit your request or the button to cancel the request and take you back to the page to select a country as described in steps 2a and 2b. If additional samples are required, select the

button. You will be redirected to the page as described in step 10 to order additional terminated or non-terminated samples.
