There is still a lot of work that the company has to do to make Google Glass great, but even in its current state, it could still be a big money maker for the company. There are many opportunities with this product that Google has up their sleeve. Google may be looking to get part of the mobile local advertising business. This is quite a bit chunk of change considering the market should reach to about $16 billion in the United States by 2018. Google is probably going to use the high tech glasses to collect high quality data about users to then improve their platform and products. Google Glass also brings Google into the wearable tech industry which is about $30 billion industry in the U.S. alone. There are many positive impacts that Google Glass will have for the company financially and for the future of technology overall. First, Google Glass has really revolutionized the wearable tech industry. Wearable sales have skyrocketed since Google Glass joined the game, because they have prompted many other companies to do the same. This industry will probably continue to grow five fold in the next few years as the technology become a bit cheaper and more ubiquitous. Second, Google Glass provides a lot of opportunity for local advertising. Mobile local ad spending is huge because it is so targeted and if Google Glass can prove effective it will bring in huge revenue for the company. Google can also use the device to collect data to know exactly what their users prefer. This will make the device highly desirable and beneficial to the company.
