Thankyou: In 25 years of operating Sally K Dance, I have found that word of mouth is always the best form of advertising! So thank you to everyone who has passed on information regarding SKD to other family members and friends. My greatest joy is watching dancers’ faces when they master a step, or discover a new capability, skill or trick they can do! Again, thank you for allowing my fabulous staff and I to be an integral part of your children’s dance journey. Sincerely Sally Foster

Dance Styles Offered

Our Twinkle & Boyz Bop Programs Provide the perfect balance of structure and Fun! Our dance programs have been designed specifically to teach students to dance whilst preserving, cherishing and nurturing the beauty of childhood.

Twinkle Babies (2-3½yrs)

is a specially designed class using popular music and old favourites to teach solid dance technique incorporating tap, jazz & ballet. With the aid of the Twinkle Bears and other props, children will learn the fundamentals of dance as well as work on their balance, co-ordination, flexibility and agility.

Twinkle Stars (3½-5yrs)

progressing on from the Twinkle Babies classes, Twinkle Star classes allows all students the opportunity to further develop their Tap, Jazz & Ballet technique. The students are having so much fun they don’t realize they have been learning new steps whilst strengthening and developing their muscles.

Boyz Bop (3-6yrs)

is the perfect balance of structure and fun, and a wonderful way for younger boys to learn quality dance education in a lively and inspiring atmosphere! Boyz Bop teaches dance incorporating gross motor skills, jazz and hip hop to lively and interactive music.

Toddler & KinderAcro

( 2-6 yrs)

Acrobatique’s KinderAcro Program is specially formatted for children between the ages of 2 and 6 years old, and is broken down into developmentally appropriate groups, that focus on age specific skill-sets.

This is a carer/parent assisted program where your child will develop their gross and fine-motor skills, explore foundational Acro positions, learn how to follow instructions from a teacher, take turns, and appreciation of AcroDance that will be of benefit to them no matter what their future path may be – all while done in a safe, challenging, and very fun environment

Class Descriptions for Sally K Dance Classes

ACRO

is the term used by dancers to describe certain gymnastics skills that are used in dance routines. You will be able to increase your skill, agility and co-ordination by learning basics. Students will work to build their core strength and flexibility and will start to master skills from bridges, tumbling, handstands and cartwheels through to forward & backward walkovers, and with practice, even aerials and flips.

BALLET

is the core foundation of dance that also complements, enhances and strengthens technique across every other genre of dance. Ballet provides the foundation for technique, body placement and core strength. As students reach Intermediate level and higher, it is important they attend 2 classes a week to maintain and improve technique, which will then allow them to start Pointe Work training when their teacher considers they are physically strong enough. Students MUST attend 2 ballet classes weekly (one of these being an Prima Elite class) before being considered ready for the transition to Pointe work. Students must also have working Pointe shoes and wear these to class each week to maintain their Pointe work.

HIP HOP

Is the latest leading edge in dance, that is a broad collection of the latest moves, making it a popular dance style. It is rhythmic, funky, high energy, sharp, electric and very versatile movement that incorporates the latest music allowing the students to be in the music.

JAZZ

We teach a variety of different dance styles ranging from Traditional Jazz to Commercial Jazz (seen in pop videos), to Cabaret (seen in musicals) and even Funk – a modern earthy street style of dance. Jazz is both energetic and expressive, upbeat and so much fun!

MODERN

Younger students learn Lyrical – which is a slow and expressive interpretive dance usually to emotional songs, and older students can then move into the style of Contemporary – which is a modern cutting edge dance style. It involves a lot of strength and technical prowess where students dance in bold strong movements.

MUSICAL THEATRE

Become the ultimate Triple Threat! Musical Theatre takes you from the dance floor to the stage enhancing & working on your core dance skills whilst refining the basics & switching the focus into performance! Musical Theatre is a passion driven pursuit. Singing, dancing and acting all enrich our lives as human beings, spectators & performers!

TAP

Tap lets you make music with your feet from special metal plates attached to the bottom of your tap shoes. We teach (Newcastle Tap) LGTDA, which is the style the Tap Dogs use in their movies and productions. This lively, rhythmical style allows students to challenge their feet & co-ordination with dynamic, percussive, smooth sounds, beats and syncopation to create a unique dance style which is both exhilarating and fun. Your love of tap dancing will last a lifetime!

Injury and Illness Policy

• Dancing is an activity where injuries can occur. It is important for parents to be aware that while dance is a strenuous physical activity that carries some risk of injury, all teaching at SKD is based on safe dance technique, and all teaching staff are trained to deal with common accidents and injuries.

• Injuries must be reported to the teacher by the students. This is important so that the teacher is aware they have hurt themselves.

• Students who have been injured must present a clearance report from their practitioner stating they are able to return to classes. If the injury is ongoing we must receive reports regularly so we are aware of the restrictions placed on the student.

• If your child is recovering from an illness or injury, and unable to dance, please could they still come and sit and observe their class or participate as able.

• Please text Sally on 0411204546 if a student will be absent from class so she can pass this on to the relevant staff member. As dance classes are a “team sport” absences affect the whole class.

• We are not liable for personal injuries.

Hot Weather Policy

• Classes on hot weather days are adjusted to accommodate the heat. • Please ensure that students bring their water bottles in hot weather and bring a

small flannel they can wet and use to cool down. • If the temperature reaches 37 degrees, classes will be cancelled to ensure the

health and safety of the students. • Once the temperature reaches 37 degrees we will confirm this on the website

and on our SKD - Parents & Students Announcements Facebook page. If this happens during class time, you will be notified and may collect students immediately. Staff will not leave students unattended on these days.

• There are no refunds for cancelled classes on hot weather days. Makeup classes may be done at a similar standard or style if it is possible.

11

Pointe Work Policy • Students MUST attend a minimum of 2 classes per week to be considered for and

participate in Pointe class – one of these being Saturday morning Prima Elite. Students cannot come to Pointe class without having attended class prior to warm up & work the suitable muscles for the Pointe class.

• Students MUST have workable and safe Pointe shoes to attend and participate in the dedicated Pointe class, and they must be worn EACH lesson.

Student & Teacher Interaction Parents should be aware that teaching dance involves physical contact and teachers may need to make hands-on contact to adjust students’ alignment and to demonstrate proper motion or help correct technique.

Solo Lesson Policy

Solo Lessons are for either technical improvement, or to learn specific choreography to perform regularly at competitions

Missed Solo Lessons

SKD Staff are not obliged to make up any lessons missed, unless it is due to their own inability to attend the lesson.

A lesson missed due to sickness does not qualify to be made up. If the sickness is long-term (eg. broken bones / chronic illness) alternative arrangements can be made. If you are unable to attend your lesson please try to arrange a swap with another student, or be aware that you will potentially forfeit that week’s lesson.

Staff are contracted for their time regardless of whether you are able to attend your class, so please be thoughtful about your attendance as ‘makeup” lessons can not always be guaranteed and not automatically granted if you miss your weekly allocated time slot.

Solo Students’ Responsibilities

Be punctual and ensure all previous work / routines have been practiced. Notify your teacher more than 24 hours in advance for activities arising that will cause you to miss a lesson. These include excursions, camps and appointments that may effect your lesson time. School - based activities, such as excursions, are generally known about four weeks ahead of time. In this situation, to avoid missing your weekly lesson, please arrange a swap with another student, otherwise the lesson will be forfeited and must be paid for.

Solo Fees

Solo lessons are payable for the Term in advance. Lessons are $30.00 per half-hour and the accounts are payable for the whole Dance term. Term 4 Solo lesson fees will be modified due to the busy nature of the term and extra Studio activities booked for scheduled Solo lesson days. Should any difficulty be experienced with payment prior to the due date, please notify the Sally so a payment schedule can be organised. Students will not continue into the next term if the previous terms fees are outstanding.

12

Choreographic Rights Of Solo Routines

Solo routine choreography belongs to the Staff member - you are paying for their teaching/mentoring time. As such routines may be passed on to another student once you have either outgrown or are no longer performing that particular routine. Routines being performed onstage should be regularly rehearsed with the choreographer. If you leave the Studio, routines from SKD are NOT to be performed with another Studio. If you wish to perform your routine at a school or other talent quest it is courtesy to ask your choreographer for permission.

Discontinuing Solo Lessons

Lessons may be discontinued only at the end of each Dance term. If you wish to discontinue your lessons, you must let Sally know before the end of the term. We have a waiting list for Solo lessons, so please be thoughtful if you do no longer want the time slot allocated to you. There is no refund for any student discontinuing lessons before the end of the term.

13
